There are many controls on the controller and it takes a while to learn what they all do. It does go forward, backwards, turn right and turn left even on carpet. Also it has very cool lights on when you are playing. At first, the controls can be a little difficult for a 3 years old, but he began to pick it up quickly. Anyway, this is a really awesome toy. Works great and is everything we expected it to be. Very well constructed. Realistic functions.
