I have not had any problems with raised grain due to the contact with water. I move the clothes around and let it dry in between. If the grain ever does raise and it's a little rough just use a little 180 grit sandpaper and smooth it out. I did that to my last one. This looks brand new after several uses. I'm not washing the whole neighborhoods laundry so it's staying nice. I have not used it outside in the sun yet. I will this summer. Large 3/4" diameter dowels help clothes dry faster when 1 piece (like a shirt) is folded over a bar -- there's a wider gap between the two pieces of wet fabric hanging down, hence faster drying. Middle (waist-high) tier has 5 closely-spaced dowels for hanging lots of small items like socks or underwear. Usability: Excellent.
