## Description

Product Description The Treo™ 650 smartphone from palmOne makes it easier than ever to stay connected. It simplifies your life by combining a compact mobile phone with email, an organizer, messaging, and web access. There’s also Bluetooth® technology so you can connect wirelessly to other Bluetooth devices. Not to mention an MP3 player, a digital camera that captures video, and a vibrant color screen that brings everything to life – all in a device that’s still small enough to fit in your pocket. Seems like Treo smartphones just keep getting smarter. .com The PalmOne Treo 650 boasts all the legendary features of the venerable Treo 600, plus a whole lot more. Now with Bluetooth, a higher resolution screen, a removable battery, and an improved keyboard, the Treo 650 is once again on the cutting edge of Smartphone technology. It offers all the functionality of a high-end Palm OS-powered PDA, a cell phone and a VGA camera. Simply put, it's the ultimate mobile office companion.Design Click the image to get a closer look at the Treo 650's features. Under the hood, the Treo 650 features Palm OS 5.4, 32MB of RAM (23MB available for end user storage), and an Intel PXA270 312 MHz processor. The design retains the same popular form factor as the Treo 600 with a few subtle, yet significant, changes. The unit's screen has been dramatically enhanced to support 320 x 320 resolution and the full QWERTY keypad has been redesigned for greater ease of use. The top of the unit features an expansion card slot for SD and MMC-based memory and expansion cards. There's also an infrared port here for line of sight data transfers, as well as a handy switch for turning off the phone's ringer. A five-way navigator controls most of the phone's menus and operating system functions, while quick application buttons on either side of the navigator get you to your favorite applications in a snap. The left side of the unit features a volume up/down toggle plus a handy user-customizable button that can be assigned to any phone or PDA function. The rear of the Treo 650 houses a loudspeaker, as well as the VGA (640x480) camera unit. A touchscreen stylus can be tucked away on the right side of the phone. Meanwhile, a combined charging, data, and accessory attachment port is housed on the bottom of the unit, as is a standard 2.5 mm stereo headset jack.Calling and PDA Features All the of the Treo 650's phone and PDA functions are designed to provide an integrated, seamless experience. For instance, you can type in the name or initials of a contact on the keypad to dial them. Or, use the touchscreen and stylus to copy information from an email and quickly paste it into another email or text message. All of the latest phone features folks expect are built-in, too, like a handsfree speakerphone, polyphonic ringtones, a vibrate mode and picture caller ID. The capacity of the unit's address book is only limited by the amount of internal and expansion memory available. Headsets, car kits and other wireless peripherals can also be paired with the unit via Bluetooth. The Treo 650 is also a fully functional Palm OS device. That means that a huge library of applications, from spreadsheets to word processors to games, can be added to the Treo 650. It's easy to perform multiple tasks like checking your calendar while talking on the phone or dialing calls directly from your contacts list. Familiar Palm OS software ships with the handset including calendar, calculator, clock, contacts, memo, and task management applications. Real Player for video and MP3 playback, VersaMail email client, and DataViz Documents to Go for mobile access to native Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint files, are also included. The unit's memory expansion slot allows you to transfer music, photos, and video from your desktop. Or, use it to load additional games and applications.Messaging and Internet The device fully supports SMS and MMS messaging for rapid exchange of pictures, text and video via Verizon's instant messaging system. With a Verizon National Access data plan, you can browse the web with the Treo 650's integrated Blazer 4.0 Web browser, which supports full HTML Web page browsing. The Treo 650 also supports Verizon's powerful "Wireless Sync" service. With Wireless Sync, you can send and receive email directly from your wireless PDA or Smartphone. By installing Wireless Sync on your desktop PC -- and as long as your PC is left on and in a condition to receive email -- you'll get new emails, calendar, contact, and task information sent to your mobile device whenever you're out of the office. Wireless Sync uses true IP push, which means that new emails are delivered to your device as soon as they arrive in your PC inbox. Wireless Sync also allows for synchronization with POP3 and IMAP email accounts, in addition to work email from Exchange-based servers.Imaging and Entertainment The Treo 650's built-in camera features a 2x zoom, a flash and a self portrait mirror. While the camera is great for taking stills, it can also function as a camcorder, allowing you to capture MPEG4 video to the unit's memory. The device ships with two games, Zap! 2016 and Handmark Solitaire, and many more Palm-based games are available. As mentioned, the device ships with Real Player, so you can use your Treo 650 as a portable MP3 and video player. Keep your tunes loaded on a memory card and you're ready to go with stereo sound wherever you roam.Vital Statistics The PalmOne Treo 650 weighs 6.30 ounces and measures 4.4 x 2.30 x .90 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 150 minutes of digital talk time, and up to 72 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the CDMA 800/CDMA 1900 frequencies. ## Customer Reviews

### ⭐ Waste of my valuable time and money.
*by J***Y on October 19, 2005*

What a contraption of garbage. Aside from VersaMail and the Web, this is as useless as they come. And this one comes right after your wallet.1. Documents to Go (D2G)I paid hundreds for this phone brand new from Verizon. Within a month or two, the D2G just doesn't even work anymore. Not whatsoever. In fact it restarts the phone if I want to open it.2. MediaI was hot-sync'ing pics and movies to my harddrive and there was a problem with "023" which did not even exist on the card/device. So I could not sync anything. Then I deleted pics from the hard drive and it deleted everything on the card as well, all on its own free will. I'm talking vacation pics. What a sorry deal this device really is. The camera doesn't even take good pictures. Everything is too dark and looks like quality from an old camera from the 50's. The camcorder doesn't save anything longer than about 50 seconds. Anything longer than this and it simply does not save and will not even give you the option to do so. Hundreds of dollars for this so far? I don't think so.3. ConnectionYou're lucky if you get a signal with this standing next to the tower itself. The sound is too quiet coming from the ear piece and from the phone itself, even on speaker phone the sound is just an inaudible din. I cannot even tell you how many times this thing has just lost connection and then blared that "DINT!" sound that it plays when the phone messes up.4. That "DINT!" soundThe phone makes an annoying loud sound when it is messing up. Whether that means it has no connection, is struggling to find a signal even when you're not on the phone, or the phone itself is just too slow to process simplist things. The only option you have for not hearing this pestering sound is to just turn off the sounds completely. You cannot hide from its authority unless you mute the whole thing. Pathetic. There are many more problems. It is not even worth talking about anything positive from this phone since its vaporized by the incredible disappointments that stack up just with every single use. It looks cool, has neat capabilities, but its a facade. The man behind the curtain is worth maybe $50 for what you really get and put up with. Oh my, what's that? My phone just "DINT!"'d 2 more times as I just typed that. I think it agrees that its worth $50 I guess.Don't buy this. I mean it. Don't! I have one right now and am cancelling the phone/net plan and am selling it on ebay. I spent alot on this phone and got nothing my A670 couldn't give me already.A child once asked me if when a Treo 650 dies if it goes to hell. The answer is yes. They go to hell for ever and ever.Fin.

### ⭐⭐ Very disappointing phone
*by M***B on October 31, 2005*

I must have called Verizon ten times in four months, nagging them to offer the Treo 650 on their network. I almost deserted them to get the phone, but in mid-June, I finally got my Verizon branded Treo 650. It has not been a great experience.First the positives. It is very cool to have all my contacts, all my appointments and todo items on my phone. While the phone is large by today's cell phone standards, it is a great looking unit and functions well. It is easy to set up email and web access and it is great to be able to stay in touch with the normal too-much-email office when I am traveling. However, it is not all great news. First, I have had a heck of a time keeping the unit synchronized with my office Outlook. I get duplicates by the tons and, worse, deleted contacts. The dupes are somewhat tolerable to deal with, but losing contacts, which slip into my deleted Outlook folder is not acceptable. No one has been able to tell my why this is happening.Second, the reception and volume of the phone are horrible. Where my old Motorola TC30 could get calls in awful reception areas, the Treo is spotty inside my own house. I lose calls in transit and while sitting still. Worse, the volume is very faint. I purchased a software tweak called VolumeCare which slightly amplifies the wimpy sound from the phone, but distorts it as well. About the only acceptable solution is to use a headset and plant that sound right in your ear! Not a convenient or very affordable solution.All-in-all, I'm disappointed in the Treo. It has some nice features, but it is very disappointing as a phone.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great so far but set aside time to set up; money for accessories
*by C***N on July 26, 2005*

I just recieved my Treo 650 four days ago and am happy so far. I bought it just to be an organizer, phone, mp3 player--in that order--so I can't speak to other features such as web access (currently an expensive $45 from Verizon). Two pieces of advice:1. Budget several hours to set up. It's nearly like buying a new computer. I had to transfer my calendar and contacts from my old Clié and found that some of my old Palm applications caused the Treo to restart (I promptly deleted them). Generally it was just tedious software stuff, including a tricky firmware update from the Palm website, but don't expect to be ready out the door.2. Before you buy, budget for accessories. After purchasing the following: case ($20), SD card reader ($10; for the easiest transfer of files to the SD card), 2GB SD card ($150), 2.5MM-compatible headphones ($17), 2.5MM>3.5MM headphone adapter ($10), extra sync cable ($13), mp3 player application ($15; the RealPlayer is clunky and doesn't have a graphic equalizer), I have nearly spent as much as the device itself! Assuming the Treo gives me years of service, It'll be worth it but I'm going to have to live with the fear that the accessories will not be useful for my next smartphone (I rarely have replaced my cell phones because they got too old, it's normally because they stop working).
