But, it may be useful in ruling out an underhood exhaust leak if you're trying to determine whether or not a particular sound (like ticking) is caused by an exhaust leak or some other mechanical problem. **Q: How do i clean the the tube after use. Does any tester fluid leak into coolent while testing?** A: You can pop the top cap off and rinse it with water (distilled water if preferred if you have it handy). Tester fluid won't leak down into the coolant as there is a one-way valve in the cone end. Even if test fluid does somehow get into the coolant, there will be no adverse effects. **Q: Can it be use for diesel fuel engine?** A: Yes, it works on diesel engines. A positive test might show a greenish-yellow color to the fluid rather than the full transition to yellow that you'd see when testing a gasoline engine with a combustion leak. **Q: Does the engine have to be running to work or can we turn the engine over and over to test. will not start, we want to be certain of HG before scrap** A: I understand your concern. The block Tester detects combustion gases in the coolant system. It will not work if there is no combustion. I would say, if it is igniting the fuel in all cylinders while cranking, but will not remain running it may bleed enough combustion carbons into the coolant system. However, I honestly do not think it will work unless it is running. This block tester is only for head gasket combustion carbon leaks into the coolant system. It is not for head gasket leaks that result in water leaving through the exhaust system.
