I really wanted a boot or item that he could wear in the snow/wet but didn't want to invest alot for the few times he might wear them that way and most looked like they would just come off anyhow. These are perfect for cold weather, nicely padded and lined. As an early walker he gets around fine in them. The velcro is strong enough to stay on his feet without slippage. He cannot "kick" them off but he can open the velcro and take them off. We live in the north and expect these will be used for walks in the stroller in the cold; longer travel in the car and yes outside walking around. Might put plastic around them if it snows and let him go for it. I did measure his foot, just under 5 inches and bought the 13 to 18 month size. Wore thicker socks and still a little room for growth. I love these. The repair is relatively easy but I would be more understanding if it had occurred after a season's continual use, not a month's occasional use. I have knocked the booties down a star for it. After doing much research and constantly checking in stores, I ordered these baby winter booties and would highly recommend them! Reasons I like them: 1. They are more than just a thin piece of fleece material, which is what the alternative options offered. It was worth it to me to get something more durable and warmer. 2. There are velcro closures that make the bootie adjustable as your baby grows or based on the clothes he/she is wearing 3. The material is water resistant (not water proof - I wouldn't send a child out to play in the snow) 4. Non slip bottoms for the pre- and early-walker 5. Fuzzy inner layer I will say that I wasn't a huge fan of the color options available and worry that sending the booties through the wash more than once will dislocated the fuzzy inner layer. I often wear my active 5 month old in a Moby wrap and I can easily put these booties on while he is in the carrier. If they're easy to wrestle onto a wiggly baby then you're golden in my book! I bought the booties a size up and they stay on well while still having room to grow to last the winter season.
