It helps them develop and spread out their roots quicker. It is completely organic, and it helps them become stronger to resist insects, too. I have had the best success with it when sprinkling it into a pot I am newly planting or re-planting. I have used it on existing pots, too. While it did help some plants (especially my geraniums), it wasn't enough for plants that had already grown too much, or plants that are already root-bound.
