I would read them in my closet or under the covers with this jack-o-lantern flashlight that I got for Halloween. I loved that. This book gave me all the same feelings, but grown up: The fascination of old histories and horrors, the compulsive need to keep turning the page, and the excitement of being creeped out. At the same time, it explored some very grim and macabre truths throughout history with sensitivity and discernment.This was an absorbing read, and I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys spooky tales, dark legends, and all things mysterious. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Chilling. *by J***I on Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2020* I'm such a big fan of anything haunted, from houses to hospitals,, this book is great , I wish it were bigger witn more pages I wanted to read more, but in all it was interesting to read and keep me busy and it also let me put myself in the place as the hauntings,, creepy and spooky but I love the chills that go up my spine when I read anything about hauntings. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ chilling catalogue of haunted hospitals in North America and beyond- hard to discount the abundance of ghost stories! *by K***N on Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2017* I have never actually been a believer in ghosts and hauntings (although I would never agree to stay in any of the places depicted in this book at night) but the sheer volume of hospitals and sanatoriums listed in this book, a catalogue of the grisly and macabre and chilling, leave me questioning.This book takes mostly North American "hospitals"-- sanatoriums, hospitals, poor farms, and asylums -- and gives you a brief run-down of the history of each as well as the most famous ghosts and hauntings. Many of the hauntings are preceded by references to some of the therapies that the authors speculate might create traumatized spirits such as thoracoplasty (yikes!), lobotamies, and shock therapy.I think the most interesting one for me was actually the stories of the island off of Venice in the short section on haunted hosptials around the world where plague victims were burned.
