My current camera, a G16, dispenses with the innovative and useful large adjustment ring around the lens (its function is taken over by a small toothed wheel above and to the side), replacing it with a removable cover and mounting system. Canon and several third-party vendors sell a cylindrical adapter that allows you to attach a filter to the camera.This appealed to me as it didn't require making any changes to the camera, but once I tried this method, the drawbacks were immediately obvious. The G16 is not a tiny camera; it measures around 105 x 75 x 40 mm and barely fits in a shirt pocket. This comes out to a volume of a little over 300 cubic centimeters. The cylindrical adapter is 62 mm wide and must be at least 50 mm deep so the lens will not hit it when the camera is on (the one I have has two parts; you can remove the front section and make it a little shorter as long as you only shoot at wide-angle where the lens does not stick out as far). This cylinder is around 150 cubic centimeters - so it makes the camera 50% larger, and in the most inconvenient way possible, changing the form factor from a block to what amounts to a "bridge" or "super-zoom" profile. What was barely pocketable is now impossible - just to gain the ability to attach filters.I now have the Lensmate bayonet mount on the G16, which adds barely anything to the size, and allows filters to be attached much more easily than having to thread them on. It also uses smaller 52 mm filters. Until Canon decides to add conventional threads to this camera line, Lensmate offers the only workable system for attaching filters. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Much better than without, but . . . *by E***K on Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2016* I've owned three Canon G series cameras. G11, G12 and G15. Every one of them has ended up with a badly scratched front element. It's a design flaw that is just a fact of life on these otherwise excellent cameras. I recently had the G15 repaired and decided to put this adapter kit on to protect the front element from stray dust, etc that those lens "doors" eventually drag across the face of the front lens element.Problem numero uno.Installation was straightforward but there are two minor (and not totally unexpected) downsides to this adapter. WIthin a few days of installation the adhesive for the adapter let loose. If you look at the Lensmate site they sell extra precut adhesive replacement for $1 plus shipping. I can see why. Why not just include an extra one with the original purchase?Problem two. If you use the onboard flash at all at the 28mm setting the adapter and attached 52mm filter block part of the flash output and the result is a shadow at the bottom right hand side of the exposure. Most people don't shoot full frame so it probably wouldn't be much of an issue and can easily be cropped. But for pros that use this camera as a backup to their heavy DSLRs and expect to have a fill flash that covers the entire full wide angle frame this is an issue (see attached photo).Overall, this is a very good resolution to a Canon design flaw with the G series cameras, but you might as well order a couple extra adhesives because you're gonna need them. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solves the problem of the fragile lens cover *by R***M on Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2014* The G15/G16 is probably the best pocket camera available, but it has a weakness. Thin leaves automatically cover the lens when the camera is off, but the leaves are easily bent. The bottom line is that the G15 is a pocket camera that really cannot be kept in a pocket. The Quick-Change Adapter works by using an adhesive ring to attach a threaded filter adapter to the front surface of the lens mount. I was suspicious that the adhesive would really hold, but so far it has been solid. The included lens cap does the job of protecting the lens assembly.Other solutions I've seen involve gluing a piece of glass over the lens. that's unacceptable because it makes another surface to clean and make internal reflections.
