My normal size is 9 and I bought the 39's which claim to be size 8.5-9. They fit great. The booties have two zippers (one on the inside and one on the outside) and the pulls are a heavy metal. I really like how sturdy the zippers are. I was also surprised that both zippers are functional. Normally you would expect at least one to be purely decorative because of the silliness that is women's footwear. I bought the charcoal color and I love it. It has warm undertones instead of cool undertones if that is relevant to anyone. I feel like the color pairs well with just about everything. They are fairly comfortable, but after a full day on my feet I am ready to take them off. I would highly recommend them for pairing with dresses or tunic and leggings. You can dress them up or down depending on the outfit. This boot felt like it had already been 'broken in' right out of the box, so comfortable, and so high end looking at a fraction of the price! The suede was soft, the sole non skid, and overall just a very well made boot. The heel height is exactly as described and very comfortable to wear all day. I purchased this ankle boot in the brown color and it's exactly as shown in the pics. I should mention that I have an extremely high instep and I often have trouble finding footwear that doesn't torture my poor feet, but I'm happy to report this ankle boot is extremely comfortable! I followed the advice of other reviewers and sized down about 1-1.5 sizes (I normally wear a 9.5 wide or 10, and I ordered a 39 which according to the size chart is an 8.5-9). Because I have bunions and wide feet I did have the toe box stretched out by my cobbler, BUT the size is correct and they don't run too narrow either for a pointed toe shoe! Any larger and they would be too loose. The quality seems great and I may order these in a second color after wearing them for awhile and seeing how comfortable they are wearing and walking in after I get them back from being stretched at the cobbler.
