It's a good fit roomy but not to wide. Have used it every day for a year after sea swim n it's still in good condition **Q: Is it open at the sides?** A: It had gaps for your arms and a popper so you can make them bigger/smaller. But not open all the way down. **Q: What size for 13 year old?** A: Depends on the size of the 13 year old.
