Review: Watch that plug! - I bought this waterer in 2019. Has been wonderful since day 1. Has never frozen during snowy winters, keeps water clean. Doesn’t drip. Never really gave it another thought until today. Went out to check the water level after many days of 20 degrees and I was shocked to find the little drinking ports frozen and there was 1/4 inch thick ice on top. I got it all thawed out and filled up and rehung in coop. I figured the waterer had just worn out. I pulled up desertcart and started reading reviews and guess what I found? A review by angiepearl that solved the mystery. I am in charge of the animals but last week I was painting my pantry and asked my husband to go check the chicken waterer for me. He did, said he added some water and rehung it. He is not very careful about being precise about putting things together. I know there is only one way the plug goes in. He on the other hand didn’t even notice that. So while I’m thinking my waterer needs to be replaced, I realized he must have plugged the cord in wrong and that is why the water froze. Angiepearl’s review immediately jogged my memory that I was not the last one to check the water level. My waterer is still perfect after all these years. 5 stars aren’t near enough.
Review: Best Purchase by far - Best purchase I've made since I got my chickens. Our water has not froze in negative temps in Indiana. I use a large flower watering canister to fill it but I removed the end of it so it fits perfectly without making a mess to fill it. Plus you can use this year round. Its a game changer and makes having chickens much easier, less mess, less stress and you're not having to clean a waterer out daily. Don't think just buy it you won't regret it

(Note: Water does not get hot, or even lukewarm.) The heating element keeps water from freezing so poultry have access to a source of unfrozen water.
- QUICK-FILL CAP – During extreme cold, the insulated lid may freeze to the basin. To ensure water can be added even during inclement weather, we've added a hinged cap to the lid which is just the right size for a hose or watering can. Refill without removing the lid!
- WATER STAYS CLEAN – Nipple drinkers are popular for good reason—water stays clean and fresh until consumed. Birds drink from (3) recessed nipples. Over time, dirt and debris may clog a nipple, causing it to slowly leak. (3) spare nipples are provided with the unit. (Read tips below for training birds new to nipple waterers.)
- SUITABLE FOR HANGING – Heavy-duty handle can be used for carrying and hanging. Tip: Place a rubber pan underneath a hanging waterer. Rubber doesn’t freeze (or crack!) when ice builds up, so the coop floor stays dry. It also helps to catch drips that hens or roosters might flick off the nipples and onto the bedding.

Best purchase I've made since I got my chickens. Our water has not froze in negative temps in Indiana. Really works and keeps the chickens from getting frostbite. Before getting this I would have to change their water twice a day due to freezing. Convenient to fill with a flip cap on the top. I wish they made these in a larger size.
