WD my book usb 3.0 (powered 220w) or my passport ultra usb 3.0?** A: It should work fine, but what I have found to work best are Samsung micro SD in a USB 3.0 adapter. Makes moving content between the DVR and PC a breeze. I would not recommend the my passport since it is bus powered and the DVR just doesn't provide enough power to power the device and an external drive. The instruction booklet shows that kind of drive but every one I have tried I get an under power error and the DVR shuts down. **Q: When recording a program with DTS 5.1 surround sound quality, does it maintain the same audio quality when played back ?** A: No, It re-encodes the audio for only two channels in AAC format. **Q: I have hdd external usb 3.0. the unit have usb 2.0 so it doesn't work in 3.0. the unit will work in 2.0 (60 mb/s) no in (600 mb/s=usb 3.0) is right?** A: The AverMedia EZ Recorder supports both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, BTW most any device that supports USB 3.0 is downward compatible with USB 2.0. After the first one died within 18 months, I thought this may be just bad luck! Since I was satisfied with the recording quality, I shelled out another (nearly) 12 thousand rupees to buy a second one. This one died within weeks after the expiry of the 1 year warranty period, not that there is any service station in my city. So, if you have money to burn, go ahead buy a piece every year or year and a half and continue to burn ~Rs. 12K each time. But I have had enough!Pros:Good recording quality. Recorded video looks almost identical to the source. I am happy with it.Cons:1) After the set is turned on from its standby mode, it takes a while to setup itself while the TV display goes blank two or three times during that period. Therefore, one has to be alert to turn on the EasyRecorder well ahead of the program one wants to record. Since the input signal (HD set top box for me) continues to be displayed normally on the TV with simply the mains power on, it is easy to forget to actually turn on the EasyRecorder from its standby mode before one can start recording.2) In India, signals from "HD" cable or Dish is invariably 0nly1080i on the so-called HD channels and not 1080p. EasyRecoder doesn't seem to record such signals in its original resolution (1080i) but as 720p, although visually the video doesn't look any worse.3) Even when the input signal has 5.1 surround sound, videos recorded by EasyRecorder are simply stereo.4) Last, but in no way the least, the price set is way too high. Should have been below Rs.10k. Between 8k and 9k would have been reasonable.My recommendation? If you can live with the cons listed above, you should definitely buy it.
