My hair is naturally curly but I was going for thicker curls with shorter hair. I found for my hair if I pick my hair out then add a little bit of curl enhancing moisturizer to help make the curls. I mainly use the spiked side because it works better with longer hair like mine. The two sided feature lets you choose whether you want the hair coiled or curled. Thought it would be to small but its a perfect handheld hair product. My only downside/confusion is the yellow part at the bottom of each hole of the sponge is VERY sticky, as if they stuck the foam parts of the sponge together and never covered them up. It picks up excess hair but be careful that it doesn't stick to your hair. That has not happened to me but do be carful.
