FIRST - The required 3/4" tubing - I wondered what that was, couldn't find any specs before I ordered the kit. Turns out 3/4" water pipe works just fine. Cut it to length and the cams are a slight press fit inside, taps right in with a hammer. Make sure you get both cams lined up properly. SECOND - Welding is necessary. The cams need to be welded to the pipe so they don't slip. The holder for the handle needs to be welded to the pipe. I'm a stick welding guy, so I used plain old 6013 rod to weld it up. Clean the welds and spray with cold galvanized spray to keep it from rusting. You will need to guy 3/8" hardware to attach everything except the latch, that piece takes 5/16" hardware. Seems like a durable kit, and should be as secure as you make it with your hardware choices. I will definitely buy again if I have another building project that needs it. Are they designed so they can not be unscrewed from the outside?** A: Mine came with all hardware but not bolts. if you use hex cap screws they could be removed from the outside. I was able to use bolts that went all the way through with locking nuts on the inside. Hope this helps. **Q: Is this Zinc plated or galvanized?** A: Since galvanized is zinc, I assume you mean plated or hot dipped. My orders have not been hot dipped, so plated. Since the cam's are cast thus not smooth like plated bolts, they may appear to be hot dipped as they age. But all are plated.
