And it did the trick. There's plenty of summer sunshine and beaches with Malibu and the glorious Mexican Las Hadas hotel locations. Dudley Moore is fun as the California songwriter going through the midlife crisis from hell on the heels of his 42nd birthday, Bo Derek is drop dead gorgeous in that late 70s way as the young bride who becomes the object of Moore's obsession, Julie Andrews is Moore's sensible and long suffering girlfriend and Sam Jones of Flash Gordon fame (or should that be infamy?) appears as Derek's newly wed husband.It's not a particularly great film, certainly not one of Blake Edwards' best, but there's a bit of fun here all the same, and very little political correctness. I loved the mutual voyeurism with the two parties watching each others sexual exploits through the telescopes. Also rather fun to watch as the enchanting young bride turns out to be a belated hippie and a total flake. And I promise you, you'll never hear Ravel's Bolero quite the same after watching this film. Overall it was great fun to see this again, a real blast from the past.
