## Overview

Liquitex Professional Black Gesso Surface Prep Medium is an 8-ounce acrylic-based primer designed to seal and texture various surfaces including canvas, wood, paper, and metal. It offers a water-resistant satin finish that enhances paint adhesion and durability, dries quickly with just one coat, and is safe for educational use. Compatible with Liquitex acrylic paints and mediums, it allows for custom tinting and provides a professional-grade base for both acrylic and oil painting.

## Description

Liquitex offers the broadest range of acrylic mediums to inspire creativity at every stage of the painting process. Surface Prep Mediums are used to seal prime and add tooth (for color adhesion) to all surfaces such as canvas wood paper and metal. This same preparation is used for both acrylic and oil paint. Our professional gessoes usually take just one coat and adding Liquitex Soft Body color to any gesso creates customized tints and primers. Liquitex Colored Gesso Surface Prep Medium are premium acrylic gessos used to prepare painting surfaces for acrylic and oil paint. Using pre-mixed gesso is more convenient than tinting clear gesso. Priming a canvas in black or neutral grey eliminates the starkness of white and provides strong contrast. Excellent base coat primer for many applications, including murals; one coat is usually all that is required. Can be applied to any material or surface that will accept traditional acrylic media, such as canvas, paper, wood, etc. Liquitex Surface Prep Mediums are lightweight, non-toxic and dry to a water-resistant, non-yellowing surface. APPLICATION: Use undiluted or thin up to 25% with water. When thinning more than 25%, use an equal mixture of water and Liquitex Matte Medium to thin gesso. I can't believe all the negative reviews. Thick, really? Who would want watered-down gesso? I thin it down by about 20% by pouring out enough to fill 3/4 of a 1 pint wide mouth mason jar, then adding water and leaving a small amount of air in the neck. I make 3 jars and seal with cling film and blue masking tape. I add 1/4 cup hot water to the 64 oz container and shake well. I use this first. I usually coat 8 24"x24" canvas panels so there's not much left over; that said, I've had no problems using gesso stored over 6 months. It's fabulously thick and creamy. A wonderful product and a good price.
