A: The unit does get warm if they are giving constant power to keep it locked or unlocked (depending if they have it set as fail-safe or fail-secure).  However if mounted in a metal framed door the metal acts like a heat-sink.

**Q: Can this be used outdoors?  (is it weather rated...?)**
A: It can be used on a front door that is under cover.  It is not designed to be used outdoors.  Not "weather rated".
