There are two identical layers sown together. I would say the layers are maybe 1/4" each? The edging band is fairly wide at 1" and is kind of a dull purple material. Not ideal. The package comes tightly bound in plastic. You are to fluff it in the dryer for 20-30 min. They have a nice smelling dryer sheet included. There is a material bag to store it in, also included. It's a nice warm blanket, 87" wide per their insert.
