## Description

The Earthquake Sound CP-8 Couch Potato is a down-firing powered 8-inch compact special applications subwoofer designed to deliver deep and precise bass right at your sitting position. It features a premium 8-inch long-throw woofer with a built-in high-efficiency class AB amplifier that produces up to 300 watts of peak power. The woofer features a durable, lightweight pressed paper cone with a wide Santoprene surround and a 2-inch voice coil that ensures low distortion and long-lasting performance. The CP-8 amplifier is equipped with a variable crossover and phase control to adjust the sound to your listening preferences. The crossover allows you to set the subwoofer's frequency range from 40Hz to 120Hz, while the phase control lets you align the subwoofer with your main speakers for optimal sound quality. This subwoofer is easy to install and connect with any speaker system; whether watching movies, listening to music, or playing games, the CP-8 will transform your listening experience with its dynamic and immersive sound. Because the CP-8 is only 7 inches in height, it allows for unique placement possibilities, such as underneath or behind sofas, beds, and other furniture. It can also be placed on its side and in between the back of the couch and the wall making it a versatile option for home theater systems. By placing the subwoofer closer to your sitting position, the bass is faster, more powerful, and carries massive subharmonic vibrations that all home theater enthusiasts can appreciate. A sizeable 3-inch port at the long end of the enclosure lets you direct bass out from under a couch or bed without losing precision and energy, which provides a high output of the lower frequencies. It gives the robust woofer optimal working conditions, resulting in a strong and accurate bass response. With incredible versatility and a slim form factor in mind, the low-profile CP-8 offers flexibility and concealment without sacrificing precious floor space. It will quickly become an indispensable fixture for your home theater system, allowing you to add outstanding bass to unused space. If you are looking for a subwoofer that delivers high performance, low distortion and is placement friendly, look no further than the CP-8 Couch Potato by Earthquake Sound.

Review: Ideal Solution, Worked Perfectly - After reading the reviews I was nervous, but this thing is amazing and totally worth it.! I set it up in a basement 5.1 home theater that’s roughly 30’x12’x8’. The box is pretty small in terms of footprint, fit it easily under a coffee table. Bought separate 90° 2-1 RCA adapters and 50’ of single RCA for a receiver with a single RCA. After dialing it in, it’s at 1/2 volume. Movies get the couches and room vibrating, bass heavy music pounds, and I still have room to crank it if I really wanted to. I got no hissing, no popping like some reviews mentioned, box seems solid. Con: the sub itself is VERY exposed. Depending on how you grab it to move it, you could easily grab the speaker potentially damaging it.
Review: Excellent sub when used as intended! - I have been an audio nut for as long as I can remember and became aware of Earthquake Sound in the 90s in the car audio market. They have always been known for making solid products at reasonable prices, so when I saw the CP8, I was intrigued. I originally bought one a few years ago to compliment my computer audio system which consists of a Peachtree Audio Decco2 integrated amplifier and D5 bookshelf speakers, as well as Sennheiser HD 650 headphones for when I need to be a little quieter. This system cost a couple of thousand dollars all told, even after "bargain" shopping, which puts me into "He's clearly crazy!" category for my friends, but "mid-fi" category for audiophiles. Hopefully, this gives you an idea of my audio experience for this review. This sub fits perfectly in the cavernous foot well of my over-sized desk, and since it and my desk are both black, it blends in very well. It gets a substantial low bass boost, similar to corner loading, because of my foot well, but doesn't get too boomy as a result, which surprised me to be honest. It plays low enough that it will cover all but the most infrasonic of music, and in my small office, will energize the room with bass quite nicely, especially when sitting right on top of it at my desk. This system sounds phenomenal to me while seated at my desk (which is the most important thing)...but the bass quality varies dramatically around in the room due to its placement in the foot well. Given its excellent performance in my desktop system, I decided to get one for my office "home theater." My significant other wanted my "ugly speakers" out of the living room. Surprisingly, I was able to talk my way into keeping the sub...whew! So, I recently replaced those old speakers with in-ceiling surround sound (GoldenEar HTR 7000...another highly recommended product!). I re-purposed the old ones to my office and needed a sub. With the lack of space in my office, I bought a new CP8 to go behind the love seat, and it sounds wonderful, as I knew it would. It goes plenty deep, shakes the love seat nicely during explosions, and fills the room with bass. This won't replace my giant 15" sub and couch bass shakers in my primary home theater (how I was able to talk the S.O. into keeping those, I don't know!), it's a small 8" woofer after all. It's designed as an auxiliary sub to be placed right next to the listener in order to provide a similar tactile sensation as the bass shakers in bigger rooms and systems, but performs well enough that it can also be used in smaller situations like my office as the primary sub. Use it as designed immediately next to your listening position and it will perform excellently!

- Down-Firing Woofer: 8" down-firing active driver with 2" high-temperature voice coil and long excursion Santoprene surround enhances output by utilizing the floor as an acoustic amplifier

## Questions & Answers

**Q: It has no lfe input. would work welll with just 1 rca in the left input as others ?**
A: Yes, you can just run a cable from LFE out to Left in. Since your receiver is already filtering high frequencies from the LFE out, you don't need to do so in the subwoofer, so you might want to turn the crossover knob to its highest setting in the subwoofer.

**Q: How tall is it without the legs inserts? Can you use the sub without them as well?**
A: It is 7 inches tall and to get the best effect you must use the legs as there is a downward pointing speaker.

**Q: What is the height on the unit including the feet?**
A: The feet are approx. 3 inches but they fasten to an inset, so I would say add an extra 2.5 inches to the height to be safe. Also, I believe the rubber feet could be cut if needed, as the screw in the feet sits closer to the base of the box than the floor. I use my box on it's side, resting on cork board and do not use the feet.

**Q: This is a 2009-2010 model. do you think it will do well the job with a denon 2017 reciever and a 5 hifi speakers 2014 models ?**
A: Yes. I have an older Denon AVR 1911 but I don't think a newer Denon would have any problems. I wasn't sure about the CP8 but it sounds great. I have it connected to 25 ft cable that goes underneath the house. Enjoy.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great sound in a little package
*by Z***1 on June 7, 2026*

Fits perfectly behind my couch. With speaker facing couch, it gives the seat a slight rumble. Is a perfect addition to my 5.1 setup in a living room. Bass fills room without being too boomy or distorted. If you dont want to see your sub, I would highly recommend. This is coming from someone who uses two 12in subs in a family room.
