Review: How to insure authentic Canon battery... - I have ordered this battery from desertcart, but also utilized price matching at my local store. I could use desertcart's price and actually see the product for myself! WIN WIN situation! Based on other reviews for random batteries, it seems like you'll be gambling on receiving a 3rd party knockoff or an authentic Canon battery. I just want to say right away that the battery I received from desertcart as a seller was 100% authentic. I had no problems with it and it was exactly the same battery received with my Canon T4i camera. I like to have back up batteries just in case something happens, but when I invested in a battery grip for this camera, I wanted to have 1-2 more on hand than what I already had. I went to my local store who matches prices on desertcart as long as they are in stock on here and sold by desertcart themselves. I was able to see before buying and make sure they were authentic Canon batteries and got it for the same price desertcart offered which was the "best buy" for me ;) Saved about 40% from what the store wanted. I just wanted to write this review to offer some help to someone on the fence being nervous if they were gonna get a cheap knock off or not. This may be a solution for you. With all that being said, onto the battery. I prefer the authentic Canon batteries because they are the most reliable in my opinion. Sure they cost a bit more compared to the cheaper brands, but it's my preference and I have had no issues with Canon's batteries. The longevity seems great on a charge, and there hasn't seemed to be any downfall on shots per charge the whole time I've had this after many, many charges. I also recently got the 6D camera which doesn't take these batteries and invested in an additional LP-E6 for that from the local store just to be safe. Canon batteries to me are the way to go. If you wanna save on some money for camera items, pick something else... at least that's how I feel. I totally recommend this product, but like I said, make sure you are getting the real deal. Normally if this is the case, the package may be stapled or in many cases, behind a counter. The fact that this one is made in japan or that it isn't the exact shade of color as the one that came with your camera, just means it was made in a different facility. Canon, doesn't just have one factory in the world. Now, some people are getting batteries without the Canon logo that say "battery for Canonn LP-E8". These are definitely third party batteries. If you get one, call desertcart and they will take it back. However, I believe a few people read some early reviews of people who actually received third party batteries, and thus they were looking for any indication that these aren't real. If you get one that has a slightly different color, slightly lighter writing, made in Japan, and in an easily opened package, don't just write it off. Try it out. Mine had all of those attributes, and it performs just like my original Canon Battery. If yours doesn't work, call up desertcart and they will take it back...they are generally very good about that.

**Q: Is it useful for T5i ?**
A: I have it for my T2i and it has lasted for about 2 years now so if you are able to use it for the T5i I would say get it. I do not think the batteries have changed through the different models. Here is something I found on the following site: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EOS-Rebel-T5i.aspx"The Canon T5i uses the same battery as the T4i, T3i and T2i - the small 1120mAh/7.2VDC Lithium Ion Canon LP-E8 Battery Pack. Canon rates the LP-E8 + T4i combination for up to 550 (440 w/ flash) shots. Battery life of course varies greatly with temperature, flash use Live View use, etc. The T5i tracks 4 levels of battery charge on the rear LCD. "Hope it helps

**Q: Does this work with the Canon 5i**
A: Just ordered my Canon Rebel T5i in November 2015 and the original battery it came with is this LP-E8.

**Q: Why is this battery $50 bucks as opposed to the other batteries which are $12?**
A: Very likely because they are either third party batteries (which I do no recommend), or fakes (which can be hard to spot and need to be avoided).  I recommend sticking to Canon for batteries, as they will for sure hold up.  Its not that a third party battery can't also hold up, it's just more likely to prematurely degrade, and then you are replacing it much sooner than the Canon brand (I have had Canon batteries last several years, and third party no longer hold charge after 6 months).  As long as you understand and accept the risk then it is personal choice.  But again, I recommend only Canon brand batteries.

I also recommend to get your batteries from sources other than Amazon or other marketplace type sellers, as they are frequently sent fakes from the third party sellers that send them stock.  Places like BnH, Best Buy, Adorama, Canon direct, all get their stock straight from the source.  If you do get one from Amazon or other marketplace sellers, go to Canon's site and read up on how to spot a fake.  Fakes not only will stop functioning prematurely, they also have other risk like catching fire or damaging your camera.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 8 months old results = Better than expected!

When my wife and I were reviewing batteries for her photography business, we decided to check out prices locally, online, and with other photography brands. When I was browsing these reviews, I noted which sellers were doling out the "genuine article" and we decided that the risk was worth it if they turned out to work. Their trial run was during an engagement shoot. The batteries showed up just fine on my wife's Canon T2i and the battery life was similar enough to the battery that came with hers. We have 2 of these and they both, when tested, performed admirably. I noticed that a few of the other 5 star reviewers mentioned some common sense protocols they took when ordering from other sellers, and I wanted to thank them for these warnings and also caution you to do the same. I always research the sellers online to see what kind of stuff they do at their sites and see if I can get as much info as needed before I pay them. Make sure you cross check the specs, and if possible get a clear idea of the product you're getting before your order. An ounce of preventions is worth a pound of cure!
