That's a little bit of a pain. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good book to fight stress or depression *by U***S on April 11, 2015* I had a lot of fun with this book-enough to purchase after borrowing from the library. I hadn't made skin care products before and the recipes were easy enough to follow. Most of the recipes I made (and I made a lot of them) turned out and I have gone back to making more of the same one when I ran out rather than searching for a new recipe from a different source. There is enough variety with several recipes covering each area: scrubs, toners, moisturizers, hair care products. . I'm surprised there weren't any for making deodorant or toothpaste. There is a small section that explains the reason for choosing the specific ingredients which is always nice to know. There are quite a few different ingredients and I found myself hunting through health stores to find various ingredients. This was fun for me and helped with stress. I could see it driving someone crazy though. To complicate things, some of the recipes involve two steps. First you make an infusion and then when that is ready you incorporate it into the actual recipe. This turned out to be a whole lot of fun. I infused witch hazel (which I had never used before) with vanilla. Once I learned how to infuse I got busy and infused coconut oil with all the leftover tea that I had. Then that was used in the lip balm recipe (which is fantastic). This also inspired me to make my own extracts. The author touches briefly on skin care and blemishes emerging with cleansing. Perhaps more discussion regarding reactive healing would enhance this book. There was no guidance on making rose petal powder which is used in several recipes. I searched the net but didn't really find much so eventually I baked the petals and then ran them through the coffee grinder ( a must have). There is a scrub recipe that is fantastic-but It involves turmeric and turned my pale skin yellow-like can't scrub it off for two days yellow. Probably some skin tones benefit but it was horrid on mine. My tub was also dyed yellow and I had to use bleach to get it off. The scrub was so amazing I actually knowingly did it all over again. However if I were to make it I wouldn't use the turmeric ( yes it's great stuff but...). There is a pre tan scrub with citrus and my understanding is that sun exposure and citrus don't go together. Several recipes involve comphrey which is not readily found in my area. Research on it revealed some controversy although for skin care is supposed to be ok. All in all this is a great book for someone who is willing to search for ingredients. I supplemented the recipes with my essential oils and learned a few new things that I can do with the roses,lavender and herbs that grow in the yard.
