Enter this mat, sans cardboard! (Also worth noting that his only bad habit of pulling up rug pieces came from having a carpeted scratcher as a kitten so I was not looking for that material either.)He's a big boy (17 pounder) and lounges comfortably on it even though I got the smaller size (15.7"x 23.6"). I've had it for a couple weeks. It's holding up well and I don't see pieces of it on the floor or in my bed. The felt on the cat decoration is separating a bit but that's not important to me. I did take away a star for lifting up sometimes as he scratches--the mat is rubber backed but it is not stiff enough to stay down as one piece. Would I recommend this mat? YES, ABSOLUTELY.
