The big seeds work better because the little ones get stuck when it rains and then you have to clear out the openings to allow for seeds to fall. I will go back to using larger seeds like sunflower. It is great to see that squirrels and all other birds come by. I live in buffalo and these feeders hold up to our weather. There is drainage where the seed lays to prevent mold and clumps. They are little easier than other feeders when it’s time to clean. I have hands like a grizzly bear so that can be a chore. The cord for hanging is sturdy metal and coated in plastic. This model holds about 5lb of seed compared to 1-2.5 for most feeders at the hardware store. Use a funnel with wide spout for filling it will make life easy. I also like that this is American made. I had three other feeders by this company looking good after two winters while still on the tree so I started to add others from this company.
