Has worked 4 consecutive winters and counting.
This bird bath heater has worked for 4 consecutive Iowa winters, and is cleaned and ready for #5 come December. Without it, the bird bath water would simply freeze in winter. The area birds seem to appreciate being able to stop by and drink water on my deck in the winter.

Works good
This seems to be working well. It doesn't thaw the entire bird bath on extreme cold days but it does thaw it around the heater so water is available when everything is frozen.l

So far so good!
We've had a similar design bird bath heater for years, so when that one died after a few winters, we searched out the same heater. We just got down to 14 degrees last night and it did a great job of keeping the water clear of ice. The coming nights will be colder, but we're confident that, just like our last few heaters, it will do a wonderful job for the birds. Cord is a little short thing, but we use an extension cord to reach the outside outlet on the porch. Can't speak to longevity, but similar heaters from other companies last 3-4 winters. Good price and a great little heater.

Getting the job done in a southern cold snap
Decided to splurge on a birdbath heater for this winter, and I'm glad I did, as we're having temperatures in the teens down in usually mild Georgia. For reference, the birdbath is a 23-inch concrete bowl that has a capacity for about 1.5 gallons of water. As pictured, it's holding about one gallon of water. This photo was taken about an hour after sunrise, when the air temperature was 14 degrees. The heater is maintaining an open area of water, with ice around the edge of the birdbath. The birds (and squirrels) are drinking without a problem. They stand on the icy part if they need to. As a side benefit, when the heater is running, it appears to have a convection effect, creating ripples in the water which may help birds find it. I copied another reviewer and tied the cord to the base of the birdbath using a bungee. Took away one star because the inflexibility of the cord makes it hard to get it to lie flat if you want it near the edge of the bowl -- I had to put it in the center.

Birds are happy!
It immediately started to melt the ice in my birdbath, and it brought the water to a nice warm temperature once done. It makes me feel good that I can help the birds in the cold Maryland winter!

It Works
It's not the strongest bird bath heater that I've had, but it melts enough so that the birds can get water. In 8 degree F temps, it melted a wide enough hole for the birds to comfortably drink. I attached it to a grounded 3-plug outdoor extension cord and had no problems.

Works well
Woks well -4 the other night and there’s still a good sized open area for the birds.

Unit chipping/peeling after one winter of use
I bought the exact same heater two years ago, and did not have this problem, but I couldn't find it, so we bought a new one. After one season of use, the paint is chipping/peeling off the unit - it cannot be used again without poisoning the birds coming to drink. Very disappointing. It did keep the water heated through a very cold winter this year. But since I can only use it for one season, it's garbage now. I won't buy it again, that's for sure.

Heats Well — Maybe Too Well!
The heater definitely works — maybe a bit too well. It’s supposed to keep the water just above freezing, but instead it warms it up to around 24°C! While the birds probably enjoy the spa treatment, it uses more electricity than expected and I have to refill the bath more often due to evaporation. It does the job, but not exactly as intended.

Works great!
Only a week so far, but working fine. They DO say in the instructions to use an outdoor extension cord. So far has kept things liquid a few degrees below freezing, but included instructions do suggest using 2 units for a large bird bath, and note that the idea is to clear some ice, not necessarily thaw the whole pond. Ignore "experts" telling you the birds will sense open water as indicative of non freezing temperatures and wash up in it (and thus might freeze themselves). From what we've now witnessed, birds aren't remotely that stupid. Edit: Year two now. Still working great.

Works ok but cord too short
As others have commented, it constantly tripped the GFCI. I wrapped the cord/extension cord connection with a PVC pipe & electrical tape which has fixed that issue. Tying the plug to the birdbath base away from splashing water may have helped too. Having a longer cord for the unit would solve the problem! The heater kept our 20”x3” deep bath thawed above -5C & partly thawed at -25C. Will see how well if colder...
