Syma S107/S107G 3 Channel RC Heli with Gyro - Yellow

These little helicopters are a lot of fun to play with and seem to be able to withstand quite a beating. We purchased several of these to give as "stocking stuffers" at Christmas as well as a couple for ourselves just for fun. The instructions that come with this helicopter are a little lacking, but this is not a complex toy. Helpful hints missing from the instructions: * Leave the unit level when you turn it on for a few seconds. There will be a very small blinking green light visible from the back of the unit that will stop flashing after a few moments. This is the gyro level-setting. * To change channels of the helicopter (A vs B), make sure both the helicopter and remote are powered off. Set the channel you wish to use on the remote and power the remote on first with the throttle lever at idle. Power on the helicopter and move the throttle to the "open" position. After a brief moment, the helicopter will change channels and is available for use. DURABILITY These are durable but not indestructible. Take care when flying in a room with a lot of obstacles. Even slight changes in airflow in a room will change the flight dynamics of these small, lightweight helicopters. Due to their small size and relatively low powered motors, attaching anything to the helicopter could very easily prevent it from flying and at the very least will make it more difficult to control. BATTERY The helicopters can be charged from the included USB cable or from the included power-port on the remote. I would advise charging with the USB cable because charging from the remote will quickly drain the remote's batteries. Regarding the USB charger, there is a little light in the USB side of the cable provided that will light up when charging is finished. The LED is not externally visible on the charger cable. The way you fly your helicopter will influence how long the battery lasts, but we are averaging roughly 5 to 7 minutes. Charging takes roughly 45 minutes for my helicopters. To maximize the life of the rechargeable battery, allow your helicopter to "rest" for 5 to 10 minutes after a flight before plugging it in for a charge. Take care when plugging the cable into the helicopter to charge as the pins are very very small and I could see where it could be easy to damage them if you're too rough with it. On the charging cable (both on the remote and the USB cable) there is a small arrow/triangle on the top of the plug. Plug into the helicopter with this arrow/triangle facing up. FLIGHT AND CONTROL These helicopters quite stable and easy to fly. It does take a little finesse to learn just how much throttle you should give these, but the learning curve is minimal and you'll have it figured out during your first flight. As you fly (and crash... because yes, you will crash these repeatedly) you should expect little tiny nicks in the plastic blades and plastic body pieces. These will impact flight characteristics over time but very minimally. You can pick up a set of replacement pieces for very little money here on Amazon. I think the last time I looked it was maybe $3 or less. IF YOU HAVE PETS WITH LONG HAIR -- keep an eye on the rotor shaft and pull any tangled animal hairs or fibers out from around the shaft regularly. With very little maintenance and care, I see no reason why these shouldn't last for quite a long time. The availability of very inexpensive replacement parts here on Amazon means you should be able to enjoy a great many flights with these units.

The helicopter has survived all sorts of crashes; sudden drops from 15 feet up because we launched it too quickly and tried to overcompensate so it wouldn't slam into the ceiling? Yup. Full speed into the wall? Yup. Smacking it's propellers on the steel frame of our bed? Yup. Through all of that, it has sustained no major damage (slight scuffs on some of the plastic pieces - it still flies fine!). The body is made of aluminum which projects the electronics well, and the pieces that are plastic, like the wings, have proven to be durable. The plastic on the wings is some sort of bendable, non-brittle plastic (think thick plastic bottle). Bonus: You can buy a kit with spares for all of the breakable parts for ~5$ ( example: https://www.amazon.com/Syma-S107-Full-Replacement-Set/dp/B004VGD0ZG ). If you have kids: I put my hand in the spin at full speed (needed to verify it wouldn't cut my kids if there is an accident!). It was slightly painful (think strong flick), but not dangerous - I can't really imagine a scenario in which this could cut someone or break skin - the blades are not sharp, the force is not that strong, and even at full speed the helicopter is not very fast. I'd say most kids 4/5+ could fly this with an adult helping on the controls, and 6/7+ should be able to fly this themselves with practice. The only way I can see you getting hurt is if flies into your face and hits one of your eyes. Cons: 1. The internal battery is small, so it only flies for maybe ~10 minutes at a time. (Those ten minutes are super fun, though!) 2. It is hard to keep it at a steady altitude, tiny adjustments will make it go from ascending to descending and back. Some more expensive helicopters claim to have altitude leveling. This would be nice to have, but definitely not necessary. 3. It is affected by light wind - so flying it with the windows open is an extra challenge. 4. it needs a bunch of batteries for the remote (the helicopter itself has a rechargeable internal battery). Not sure why they couldn't have made it use just 2 AA or 1 9V battery for the remote.

This is the first RC Helicopter I've ever owned and it's been quite a learning experience! I didn't know what to expect when it came to flying this since I picked it up on a whim while buying some art supplies (Amazon suggestions are weird sometimes, aren't they?) and I didn't do any research. I just thought it would be cool. It is! First off, make sure the batteries are 100% charged, otherwise you'll have some issues with control, having to stay really close to the helicopter as it flies, which is difficult if you're still learning. It was definitely interesting to see it get 6 feet away and just plunge out of the sky without the slightest warning. Once I fixed that issue, however, it became a lot more fun to play with! If you want to have the most fun with this helicopter and you're just learning I'd suggest making sure you have a large open room in which to fly. Flying the helicopter around all the things in my living room is FUN, but really difficult. With a large open space (that is NOT outdoors) you'll get an opportunity to learn how to make it hover, move forward, backward, turn, all without the fear of it smashing into a couch, light, television, random guitar, or cat. Oh, cats. Keep them away if you can. Far, far away. Nobody wins in that situation.

Fantastic fun to be had by all ages. The package says it's for 14 years and up but this can be used by kids much younger. I bought this as a replacement for my son's broken Christmas present. It was a different brand that worked slightly different. My 5 year old son can control this helicopter very easily. I enjoy playing with it as much as he does. I even told many other friends of mine who also went out and ordered one themselves. The controller on the left stick gives power to the props. It stays in position, so if you do crash it you need to pull that lever down to stop giving power to the propellers to prolong their lifespan. We haven't broken any yet but they sell every piece so you can replace them if you do damage it. The replacement parts are cheap also. I also read about letting it cool down for 15-30 minutes before putting it back on the charger. This will extend the life of the battery in the copter. Ours works great and hasn't lost any charge time doing it this way. It can be charged from the controller or by USB. We use the USB and plug it into the wall. It takes about 48 minutes to charge and the plug turns yellow on the USB when it's ready. You get about 7-9 minutes of flying time per charge. We have only flown this indoors, I don't think it will do well outside because it's light and small and uses infrared sensors to transmit the controls. It can be easily flown around a small apartment because the control is fantastic. It's lots of fun for roughly $20.

Died after one flight. Any technology has a percentage/odds of failure. This product failed during its first 3 minutes of flight. After flying around fine, the throttle started cutting in and out. Eventually it stopped throttling up altogether. The remote would bind fine. The lights all indicated it was working. However, after checking the IR LEDs against a digital camera I saw that the LEDs had stopped transmitting. So no IR signal was being sent from the transmitter to the helicopter. Back it went to the seller. Thankfully, WickedSpec from whence it came was extremely supportive in returning the helicopter. They didn't have any more in stock. Otherwise, I would have asked for an exchange. About the toy itself if you're uninformed: Probably the cheapest and easiest RC helicopter out there. A great and cheap starter. A toy helicopter, NOT a hobby helicopter. It's Infrared so don't expect it to fly outside (at least not in the daytime). It's Infrared so you have to keep it in sight. If you want one that can fly around corners or doesn't need a constant line-of-sight signal, look for Syma 2.4Ghz, or Blade MCX2, or MJX T-Series helicopters. Check video reviews of any of those brands to see what people say as they're flying one. It's very small, so breezes from air vents, ceiling fans, windows, etc. can all throw it off course. Flight time is around 7 minutes. So set your timer and plan to have it on the ground before it falls to earth due to power failure. The battery is integrated into the helicopter. There's no battery swapping for continuous flying. If you're handing with a soldering iron you can rig up a micro connector from a hobby shop to create a battery swap ability. But you'll need to rig up a USB charger or a wall wort charger to charge the spare battery. There are ways to tell if your heli is a fake. Do a web search for fake Syma 107 and you'll find plenty of links to tell you what to look for. WickedSpec sold me a genuine article. They're trustworthy.

This thing is super sweet. I'm not a helicopter or an RC enthusiast. I did buy two Air Hogs Gyro Blades for my boys for Christmas. I was so impressed with those that I had to get something for myself! I got this Syma b/c it was literally less than 1/2 the price as the Air Hogs. It's slightly bigger & significantly heavier than the Air Hogs. The dual set of blades makes it incredibly stable. My boys are both a little mad that I got "the easier one to control." The controls take some getting use to, but since it doesn't have a spring it makes it easier to keep stable for me. It's been very durable. I've crashed it several times already (it's going to happen). And I've bounced it off the ceiling all the way to the floor several times as well. I expect these things to break - don't you? They're tiny w/super fast moving blades! Who in their right mind thinks these things will last forever? I purchased a replacement parts set for $4, which makes this Syma about 1/2 the cost of the Air Hogs even with the replacement. I couldn't find any replacement parts for the Air Hogs. So, when thiers break (which they haven't, so Air Hogs is also good quality) I will be buying a Syma for them. Flight time has been good. About the same as my boys copters. Again, I expect these things to have low flight times (6-10 min) because of what they do. They're small, durable, flying machines! You can't pack huge batteries in these things b/c they won't FLY if you do!! It's easy to charge. You will go through a lot of AA batteries if you like flying them. I'd say 6/week if you fly it 3-4 times/day. I do batteries on Subscribe & Save... Overall I'm incredibly impressed. When I was a boy something like this didn't exist & if it did it would have cost hundreds of dollars. To get this for under $20 is amazing. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could. Fun, fun, fun. :) FYI - my box said SYMA Gyroscope System S107 Metal Series. I put a pic of it. Looks legit to me. Honestly even if it's not I don't care. The price is incredible & the copter works amazingly well!

Did not work right out of the box charged once ,flew for two minutes. will not hold charge to run again. The one star was for looks ,it looks good.

I brought a 3.5 channel blue one for one of my kid cousins for christmas. I loved the way it maneuvered and I got a used one from amazon for myself ( only the box had cosmetic damage). Let me tell you, this is a fun toy even for adults. 1. This is fun beginners heli for people for who want to venture out into the pro world of RC copters. 2. This can only fly indoors since this has IR transmitter and the heli should always be facing the transmitter. 3. Its been almost week since I purchased and its been crashed almost each and every flight ( which has reduced in the last couple of flights :P of course like riding a bicycle you crash and learn) . The plastic rotors do get slightly chipped durning an intense crash but u can straighten it with your finger nails. I haven't seen a decrease in flight performance. I am really amazed with the built and durability 4. Takes 45 mins to charge via USB and wait for 10 mins and it flies for 5-6 mins, then wait for another 10 mins before charging.. I have checked the temperature of the battery after flight and it does warm up. So let the battery cool down before flying and charging.. You could also upgrade ur battery if u know to solder 5. Best flown away from air vents and away from electrical lighting 6. use the USB charger and save on battery life of the remote
