Itโs a draw knife, a good one, if you take care of it.
Itโs a good little draw knife, great for debating small to medium size logs, cuts great after you remove the cosmoline and wax. I had no trouble getting it to razor sharp with stones and strop. Itโs longevity remains to be seen, but overall Iโm very happy with it. People need to realize though that tools must be cared for. This is a unique shaped blade as well, that requires some knowledge and maybe a special tool. However, if you buy it, itโs your responsibility to maintain it. Now thatโs itโs good and sharp Iโve even used the opposite side of the blade as a chair scorp. Knives, all kinds are like people. Itโs all about context. Itโs also unrealistic to believe a tool for under $30 will come as a razor blade. Except beavercraft, their tools are plenty sharp, mora too. This is a specialty tool, itโll need a dust off. Besides, even if it were scary sharp out the box, itโll get dull with use. Whatโs the plan then? For you who are griping about needed to invest 15 minutes in your edges. So just sharpen it up, be proud of your tools and treat them well. Itโs a grand little draw knife.

Better than expected.
I had my doubts as to the quality and durability of this item due to its low price. I no longer do. Was really surprised how well it was built and how sharp it was right out of the package. I did touch up the blade with a whetstone as there was a little paint on the flat side that came to the blade edge just to see if it made a difference after I peeled a log directly out of the package. Maybe but I don't think it was necessary. Seemed to take the paint down after a few minutes on its own. After peeling a few 15 inch red pine logs about 20 feet long I hit it with the whetstone again and it was pristine. So, it will need an occasional touch up but so will any blade if you use it long enough. The handles were tight right out of the box and the angle of the draw knife was perfect and very comfortable to use. That said, using any draw knife is a good workout on the back and shoulders but its much easier when using on green logs. You'll get a work out but also get the job done. Overall build quality seems to be very good sturdy. The rubber blade guard fits well and protects the blade when not in use. I would buy again but I think this will last me the rest of my life.

Used for bark removal, performed very well
This is the first and only draw knife I've ever used and I would recommend it. It worked pretty well out of the box and I spent a couple of hours removing bark from walnut and cherry logs. I read other reviews saying that it performed better after the purchaser's sharpened the blade so I did with my Shapeton 1500 grit stone. Less than ten minutes later it was performing even better. I've since used it for about four more hours including some hacking of small branches (not really advisable) but it did not suffer any chipping or deformation. It doesn't even need to be resharpened yet. It's got a good weight and balance to it, the handles are ergonomic and haven't loosened at all, and the only thing preventing five stars is that it could have been a bit sharper out of the box.

Update to prior review
Still think it's great especially for the money. Recap: second knife but only due to my personal intentional abuse of the first. I will say I'm slightly disappointed that there a number of nicks to the cutting edge on this one. Everyone complained it wasn't sharp. I'm guessing they listened and ground the edge after paint rather than prior to paint.... Thanks for messing that up amazon idiots!!!! The new one has an edge free from paint so people think it's sharp. Problem is the powder coat is now not there to protect it. But now idiots can feel better when they run their thumb on it and see that it's sharp without the paint getting in the way. So congratulations. Anyway, still giving it 5 starts all around. It's identical to my first one. Haven't even used it yet. A quick pass of a file will sort out the blade issues. Still can't beat it for the price. The simplistic design actually makes it better for debarking than the fancy drawlnifes. Again, don't get it thinking it's 100% ready for fine wood working out of the box because it's not. However, right out of the box, it better than the fancy expensive knives for debarking trees..... If you spent some time with a stone, I have zero doubt you could use it for fine wood working. But keep in mind, if the thought even crossed your mind to get fine wood working tools off of Amazon, I promise you that you do not possess the ability needed to surpass what this tool will provide. It is what it is and it is an amazing deal for what it is. Good luck all!!

Great heavy knife if you have time to rework the details.
I was hesitant to order this after reading the 1 star reviews about the knife arriving dull but I enjoy sharpening so wasn't worried. The knife arrived somewhat sharp but with a heavy coat of paint(looks like powder coat) which I knew would clog my sharpening stones and files. I used paint remover and power brush to remove the paint and did a lot of filing/honing and ended up with a great heavy sharp draw knife for a pretty cheap price. Wouldn't recommend this knife for someone who would be disappointed with less than razor-sharp item right out of the box and doesn't have patience to rework the edge.

works great
Not many people will ever use a draw knife or even know what it's for. I use them a lot and this one is very good for the price. It holds an edge very well. A little difficult sharpening because of the handles but I figured it out.

Good enough to get the job done.
I bought this to make a walking stick with my 8-year-old son. Needed to debark a great branch we found. It did the job, the center of the blade stayed sharp, but I noticed towards the outer edges it's chipping. Like others have said, the handle angle is a little awkward, I would have loved to have handles pointing upwards. Overall, for the money, it's fine. If you're going to be doing a lot of woodworking and need a high quality tool, this might not be it. I'll probably only use it to make more walking sticks.

I'm happy with this draw knife. It's overall quality is very good. Came with a very sharp edge, ready to use. Solid construction ready to give it a work out.

Very happy with this 10" draw knife
I have been using this to debark eucalyptus poles. Very pleased with quality for price, not (an expensive) collector's tool, the handles and finish are a little rough, but that doesn't matter to me as its very functional. Does the job well, comes sharp enough and ready to use for debarking and basic shaving. Thick sturdy blade. Silicon blade protector for storage is handy. Good design, angles, handles are wide enough for comfortable ergonomics and long periods of use (my elbows pull past my sides without having to awkwardly flex my wrists, unlike with a narrower version).

Does the job
When the knife arrived one of the handles was lose, but that's simple to fix by tightening up the nuts. Since then it's been working really well.

My husband used this tool to build our log bed. He said it was easy to use and worked as advertised to take the bark off.
