Danco Tub Hair Catcher & Strainer, Drain Clog Prevention (10306)

Pros: - It stays where it should be. The first few weeks of use, I use duck tape to "fix" this catcher to the drain (do this when the tub is dry). And this works for a while. Then the duck tape gave in (not water resistant). So now I just leave this catcher at the drain. To my surprise, the catcher stays there (yay). - It catches a lot of hair! Even when I no longer duck tape it to the tub, it still does its duty catching my hair (lots of them.... I can weave a little handkerchief from my dropped hair at each shower). There could be some tiny hair flow down to the drain still, through the tiny seam between the edge of the catcher and the tub. But I think most of the hair stays on the catcher. Cons: - The fit. The fit of this little basket to your bathtub may be tricky at first. There is no suction cups for this basket to grip on the bathtub. If your bathtub has a curvy surface near the drain opening, then this could be an issue. - The water flow. The catcher does slow down the rate of the water going down the drain, especially when it has caught lots of hair on it and the little holes are occluded. So I recommend you pick up the stuff on the catcher every other day. - The cleaning. I think other reviewers pointed out this. I simply take this out of the tub (when the tub is dry and this catcher is not that gunky). I would use some slightly damp toilet paper in my hand to grab the hair and wipe off some residual soap on the catcher. Do this two or three times, and the catcher is free from most of the hair. This is the regular cleaning of this catcher. Of course some shorter hair may still stuck on the little hole. But this is like 90% cleaned, and those hair could be picked up in the later cleaning up. Dont think about perfection in cleaning this catcher, then you will be fine. One reviewer shared a trick by leaving this catcher in a full tub of water so the soapy stain and stuff can come out of the catcher. I did not try that though but I may do that later.

Works great, really catches every hair. Doesn’t mess with water flow. Does get a little gross and stained with time and needs to be replaced.

OK so maybe my bath drain is a little different. It has a tall screw right in the middle of it which refused to come out so that I could sit this thing perfectly over the drain. Well I am glad it's made of plastic as I was able to cut the mesh in the middle so that it fits in with a screw in the middle. That being said & done, I am SO glad it's not made of metal as I wouldn't have been able to cut it then. But, this thing doesn't sit flat on the bathtub floor. It's edges remain a little elevated despite my best efforts to fold them in, so they would form a seal. The middle does sit flat so I don't think any hair would escape in the drain. Cleaning is, well as expected, not pretty 😝 LOL.. But someone has to do it, right? It has this thorny, spikes which trap the hair and doesn't let it swim away & around the drain. It arrived FAST (within 2 days of me ordering it) & that too on a Sunday. 😳 Other than that the price is cheap. It is kinda flimsy but I think it will ermm... hold well. It has to be cleaned regularly or it will have a nasty build up over and under it. An old toothbrush and some liquid soap should do it. Wear gloves.

This review is for Danco Bathtub Drain Hair Catcher Snare and Strainer, White, 1-Pack (10306). First, the Pros: The product is effective at its purpose, which is to keep your tub or shower drain hair-free. The holes are large enough to let water drain (granting you consistently remove the hair - leaving the hair in the trap will prevent drainage just as it would if you allowed it to enter and clog the drain, obviously), but not so large as to allow hair to get through. Additionally, the barbs on the surface of the trap are an ingenious way to further ensure that hair does not sneak through any holes. This is probably the most effective trap I have used. The product is very easy to install. I like the handle - it makes it extremely easy to pick up, hold onto, etc. The Cons: The material is flimsy, and the edges will curl up a bit. However, I manage to suction them back to the tub well enough to maintain the effectiveness of the trap. Like pretty much any other drain trap, you need to remember to remove the trap from the drain between uses, and clean it regularly with a normal bathroom cleaning product, otherwise the underside is likely to get mildew or mold, and so is the inside of your drain. It's very easy to remove the hair; I'm not sure what the contrary reviews are doing that's making it so difficult. Do it when the hair is still wet, or do it when the hair is dry; either way, I have never had a problem, and my hair is roughly 1.5 feet long. My trap became discolored almost immediately. I live in a 130+ year-old house with moisture and mildew issues, so that's my disclaimer, but normally after I scrub the tub, it takes at least 5 days for the hints of orange mildew to appear again. This trap turned yellow after maybe 3 showers. No idea why, but it is rather unsightly even when there is no hair in it. Those are all pretty minor issues. My biggest issue with this drain trap is that its effectiveness makes it almost impossible to scrub clean. Since I have such a bad mildew problem, I need to clean everything in the bathroom once a week, lest it become orange and slimy. I try to clean this trap every other day (remove the hair, spray with cleaner, scrub the top and bottom), but it absolutely destroys my sponges with its barbs, and is much too flimsy to clean with a scrubbing brush... which means that I can never really get it clean. If I could find a drain hair trap as effective as this one, but a nice grey color, and easy to clean with a sponge or brush, I doubt I would ever use anything else again.

I'm from Afghanistan so needless to say, I've got a lot of hair. Thick and lots of it, length almost to my elbows .... My stylist says it's, "industrial strength", lol. This thing is a must for anyone in my category of hair! No need to try to salvage the loose handfuls of shedded hair while washing it (let's be honest here, ladies with lots of it know what I mean)... No need to call the apartment maintenance man or woman in, almost weekly. Or DIY, for the brave (definitely a nasty job when coming back up, blech!), to stop the slow or clogged drain that nastily causes water over the toes... Okay, TMI, just sayin... This works and it saves time in the shower and out! Some of the reviews I initially read here made me wonder (Whoa?!)... After your shower, you just pick it up and (You can use a tissue or paper towel if you prefer... I'm washable, so I'm not too germ-a-phobe to touch my own, just washed, hair.), it's a flexible rubbery material, with a loop in the center you can grab it by... You can flip it inside out and then grab the hair in one sweep. Trash. Done. I've used the ones at the pharmacy type stores that sell for around $1.99 and they don't really work. Any amount of hair doesn't allow water thru and you've gotta pick it up and grab the hair off every few minutes and by that time it's barely effective. This works because the little rubber spikes grab the hair before hitting the center where water goes thru. I clear mine after or before every shower but could probably go longer. It just seems gross to me to leave it longer than one shower. If I do forget it, my husband removes the thing altogether because, of course, he doesn't wanna look at a hair ball, lol. Thankfully, you can actually grab it by the loop with your toe, haha.. You do have to remove the drain part itself when using this but for me, it's worth it. If I want to take a bath, that part stays near by under our bathroom sink. Effective, four dollar, time-saver. I wash it every time I clean the tub and it stays white. No mold or mildew issues. We've been using the one we have for around ten months and it looks the same as when I bought it. Tempted to buy a couple more in case they ever get discontinued... It's a flawless design, in my opinion. I've shown it to family members who've immediately requested I order them one also. Smile. So, this is definitely the best "hair catcher" I've ever used (thank you all you other reviewers!). I didn't even know it was possible to have this level of cleanliness. It is night and day compared with having nothing there, and having to reach down in the drain and touch the gross wads of .... you know what I mean. That is the reason for the 5 star review. As a separate but VERY important matter, I noticed in the other reviews, including most of the positive ones, some people have had a heck of a time cleaning this. I can definitely see why, what with all of the tiny pricklies that go in different directions (I'm guessing to provide maximum friction for catching all the hair). After some experimentation, I found a way to VERY easily clean it! Here's how: 1. After showering, if the tub is completely empty (i.e. there is no standing water in it), plug the tub as if you are getting ready to have a bath. 2. Allow approximately 3/4 of an inch of standing water (or more, depending on the depth of the tub basin, my tub needs about an inch maximum) to fill the tub, over/on top of the hair catcher - just leave the hair catcher where it is. 3. Take a Q-tip, a pen, a nail file, whatever you can get your hands on, and dip it down into the hair catcher itself. Pull up on the hair or debris caught in the bottom of the catcher. 4. With the water and gravity at work, the hair should come up as one big wet lump that easily attaches to the Q-tip (instead of several strands of hair that come off slowly and in a big mess, when you try to clean it bit by bit or when it is dry!). 5. I wrap a paper towel around the hair lump, drop it in the trash, and the hair catcher is COMPLETELY clean, not a spare hair! Life is too short to be messing with cleaning the catcher by picking out each hair, strand by strand - it's such a prickly little guy, which I LOVE, but it defeats the purpose if you can't clean it quickly and easily after showering. I hope my obsessive experimentation helps you to enjoy using this thing.

Was not at all amused. This fit over the drain opening, but since it was so thick the water puddled around it and there was a constant amount of water in the tub during the shower. I had to take it out to let the water drain to make sure all the soap rinsed off during which time some hair went down the drain. I went back to the dollar store and got a few wire ones that work perfectly well.

Works well in the shower to catch hair and prevent it from going down the drain. Much easier to clean than having to pull a disgusting mess out of the shower drain. Easy to clean. The only downside is that I can’t have it in the drain at the same time as the bathtub plug

This drain basket is very useful and keeps hair going into your drain. You must just clean it often.

I purchased this item in the past and it worked well in my bath. It eventually needed replacing and I tried other cheaper types but they didn't fit my bath as well, so I purchased another one of these. I am happy with it BUT it is far too expensive for what it is. I will continue to try to find it cheaper elsewhere.
