Yes, it really does work; a very nice ice cream scoop
OK, so, right off the bat I need to say that, no, this ice cream scoop is not magic. It will not make scooping hard ice cream like putting a hot knife through butter. It is not DRAMATICALLY better than a scoop that has less heat conduction than the aluminum and refrigerant construction. I once read about an ice cream scoop that had an insulated handle with a hollow interior, into which you would pour boiling hot water, plug it up, then use right away on the ice cream. Now THAT scoop was probably very much like using a hot knife on butter (or on ice cream, anyway)! I don't know if it's still made or not, but I wouldn't be interested even if it was, as it would be too much trouble to have to charge the scoop with very hot (or near-boiling) water every time you wanted to use it. But, anyway, the point is that if you are expecting something like that, you will not find it here in this Zeroll Original Ice Cream scoop. However, that said, I have to tell you that after we got this scoop, my wife asked me if I had turned down the temperature of the freezer because she found it noticeably easier to scoop out ice cream! I had not, of course, altered any of the settings on our fridge (and we do keep the freezer quite cold--the hard ice cream is definitely HARD--hence the reason I bought this scoop). So, yes, this scoop really does work. It really does make a difference. It's just not a dramatic one. And, for it to work, you need to scoop out your ice cream a bit on the slow side. If you try to dig it out of there at top speed, you probably won't find this scoop to make much of a difference and will just be annoyed at not being able to run it through the dish washer. But if you take a reasonable amount of time, and let the heat transfer do its thing, you will find it to be noticeably easier to scoop out your hard ice cream from the container. And the same goes for getting a ball of ice cream to release from the scoop: it may take a few seconds to fall off--but fall off it will; you just need to have a little patience.Beyond the heat conductive design, the ergonomics of this scoop are really great. It's made just so. The handle is a lovely size and shape; the scoop is a lovely size and shape; it allows you to create near perfect balls of ice cream, if that is what you desire. The aluminum is nice and shiny, although it does scratch easily (being aluminum). Of course, by the same token, it will also polish back up easily if you need a mirror finish on all your kitchen utensiles. We keep ours sitting out in a utensile jar on the counter and it looks great. The only thing I will say on the "con" side of things is that I wish I had gotten the next larger size (the 16-green one) than the one I got (the 20-gold one), as a slightly larger ball would look better on top of a sugar cone. However, it's not a big deal and the 20-gold 2 ounce scoop makes a large enough ball to work just fine with the standard sugar cones.

Best Scooper I've Used, People Can't Read
Hands down the best scooper I've used, despite what some might say about it (See second paragraph). It easily takes scoops out that can be compared to places like Baskin Robins in terms of uniformity with little effort. If it's a particularly solid block of ice cream, I've ran the scoop under hot water for a few seconds before digging in. Works like a charm every time. It feels solid and well put together in the hand, which really just helps justify the slightly added cost over scoopers made by other companies. Now some people have rated this very poorly, I'm talking 1-2 stars for usually the same reason. It's not dishwasher safe, the coating the use rubs off with the harsher conditions dish washers subject dishes to. Despite the fact that it's mentioned multiple times on the product page, twice on the box, and again in the paper slip that's packaged with the scoop, people still put it in there. The fact people are so lazy as to not spend the 5 seconds it takes to rinse it off, dry it, and put it away is sad.If you're looking for one that's dishwasher safe, look for a Chinese made scooper that'll break in a few years, but if you want a high quality made in America scooper look no further. I'm quite happy with it and will be ordering more as gifts come Christmas time.

Best scooper ever!
This scooper is a game changer! I don't know how it works so good, but it is awesome. Worth every penny. It just glides through the ice cream with no effort. It is a must buy. This would also be a great gift.

Effective on icy ice cream!
Amazingly effective with hard-frozen ice cream. The heat-from-hand feature really works well. No thawing-ahead needed for ice cream.

Awful customer support
The scoop itself seems like it would be nice if it didn't fail in 40 days (after maybe 3 uses and only hand washes), but the company behind it does not stand behind their products. The "customer support" feels expressly designed to discourage customers and make them decide it's not worth their time or effort. Honestly one of the poorest customer experiences I've had in some time!I found it had leaked whatever fluid is inside all over the drawer it was in. It is obvious it came from this because there isn't anything with any sort of liquid in this drawer, much less an oil-like liquid. Amazon said the 30 return period had passed and sent me to the company. Then the fun began!I filled out their online form with all my personal details, order info, and problem description. They replied with a 10 point list asking me for: my personal, order info, problem description (What happened to all that information I entered the first time?!), a photo, and then a 10 second video (!) which wouldn't show anything more than the photo as I had obviously cleaned up the mess at the time it was discovered. But it gets better! After doing all this they replied stating my warranty request was approved, and I would simply have to pay $19.95 for UPS shipping to send my unit back. Gee, thanks! I paid $19.19 for this 40 days ago, and I would just have to pay a $20 "shipping charge" for an item that probably costs about $8 in *actual* UPS shipping cost (I ship UPS myself multiple times a week). Unbelievable.I have no idea if there's any liquid left inside the unit, so at this point it's become the equivalent of a generic scoop I could have bought for $3. So I guess there's that!

Don’t put it on the dishwasher
I, like a lot of people, put mine in the dishwasher because I threw out the box without reading it. However, I scoured it with a Scotch-Brite pad and Barkeeper’s Friend, and while it’s not as shiny as it originally was, it is totally serviceable. It’s really just a cosmetic issue at this point. Takes like 3 seconds to hand wash, so I won’t make that mistake again. It’s a good scoop, and my Oxo scoop was flaking off the chrome plating.
