What is the diameter of the threaded section that goes through the cooler wall?

3/4" in diameter - it is rather short in length and may not be long enough depending on your cooler.

Has anyone used this on a 55 gallon blue barrel? If so how did it turn out?

I use this on my wine transfer pump. It's just a simple gate valve and works quite well.

Can I take apart the internal valve assembly for cleaning?
