A True Multifunction Device!
I was looking for a color laser printer after my dumpy Samsung quit. I have Macs, PCs, iPads, iPhones, and Android devices. I really wanted a multifunction printer but was never impressed with the quality of such devices. Scanners are typically a gimmick slapped on a printer to make basic copies or basic scans. What I lusted for was a real scanner with Auto Document Feeder. Duplex Printing and Scanning I considered a luxury I wouldn't be able to afford. My wife and I stumbled onto the Brother 9000 series of MFC printers. Things looked promising for my printing needs (iPads, Mac, PC). Then I compared the scanning features of the MFC9130CDW, MFC9330CDW and MFC9340CDW. Here is the difference the 9130 No duplex scanning or duplex printing no USB flash drive support, the 9330 has duplex printing and USB flash drive support but no duplex scanning, the 9340 has duplex print and scan plus the USB flash drive support. Here is where it gets better then anything else I've seen for the price. Brother's Web Connect is awesome. I've scanned three months of bills and statements directly to Evernote without this thing being connected to anything but power and Wifi! It has the features office copiers that cost thousands have. Scanning to Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive, FTP, Box.net, email and more is dirt simple using the touch screen interface of the MFP all without needing a computer connected. I tries it once but you can even scan to your computer's software without hooking it to USB which is brilliant! Setup to my wifi was a snap. Once on the network my iPad could print to it without anything installed. My Mac was super simple to setup as well, the drivers and software include were easy to install and no frustrating at all. Printing is a snap with a B&W setting al ready to go when I want to conserve color toner. Very well thought out. I'll never use the Fax portion of it unfortunately. Thankfully the backlit keypad (to the right of the touch screen) dim out when not in use so you don't even see them. It makes the printer very attractive and gives the unit a more symmetrical look which I appreciate. Its not too big or bulky. I'm very very happy with this purchase, and would highly recommend it.

Best school gift to myself ever
EXCELLENT PURCHASE! Read nearly every comment before purchasing. I am a personal NOT office buyer/user. Would like to use for basic personal use and occasional full color band flyer ads. PROS: familiarity with the structure, transitioning from older b/w brother laser jet SUPER easy set up (plug in, pull off ink tabs, turn on, and enter wifi password..good to go) Quality color printing Duplex (see photo) Copy/scan work great (probably won't use fax) Wireless nice user-friendly screen (love the subtle lit number buttons) Cat friendly printer (see photo) Cons: -As previous buyers stated, this printer is NOT "photo" quality, but GREAT for anything else - the ONLY time you even notice a slight drop in quality is when I held up the heavy black ink section to a light... I bet it would look even nicer on higher quality paper... this will work PERFECTLY fine for rock band flyers... but perhaps not for actual photos...but unless you're a pro, why not just print photos for cheaper at costco and walmart? -NOTE ON DUPLEX: ms word refuses to offer duplex. Printer works perfectly fine---still able to duplex print from MS word IF you click PREVIEW AS WEBPAGE Side note: since I'm a personal buyer not an office...I do not expect to run into the TONER REPLACEMENT ISSUE anytime soon, but I'd like to take a moment to thank the printer pioneers before me who have already solved this crisis with software toner reset instructions.

Great printer except it JAMS =(
I have a Brother HL-L2380DW, and it is wonderful. I was hoping this printer, the Brother MFC-9340CDW, would also be the same. Setup was very easy, instructions were very clear, and the interface is wonderful. Wifi/AirPrint printing worked great. The Brother software you can install on your computer (Windows or Mac) is not bloated, resource intensive, or intrusive, and it provides you with excellent information. The fax setup was pretty easy as well. The colors are great too. Obviously this is not for glossy photos, but for anything else, it was terrific. The reason I had to give this one star is because I returned it. The reason I returned it is because when scanning single sided documents, scanning duplex documents (which this model does support via the ADF (auto-document-feeder)), printing duplex, and printing on envelopes, there are simply WAY WAY WAY too many paper jams. I tried a few different paper weights and a few different textures (smooth white paper/"textured" paper/recycled paper), and a few different envelope types. I also triple checked I removed all the "blue scotch tape" that usually comes with printers during shipping. It just jammed far too often. If you end up purchasing this, and don't have those issues, consider yourself very lucky. I would have given this 5 stars if there were no jams, but alas, I had to return it. Amazon made returning this hassle free, and I did NOT have to pay to shipping to return it.

So far quite good
I was tired of buying ink cartridges, and running upstairs to a shared printer connected to a computer. I had expected to have to connect this via ethernet, but the printer is seen throughout the house wirelessly, and while it takes a few seconds to come alive from it's sleep mode - the power savings are great. It does duplex quite nicely (albeit slow). It scans well to a USB device, I have not tried it directly to a computer yet. It handles OCR with the addition of an OCR intelligent software package. My wife and daughter ran it through it's beginner toner cartridges more quickly than I would have liked - but even though black claims to be low, it is still printing nicely - I have not yet had to try the reset trick. Photo printing is not as good as the inkjet. I had to scan a huge stack of paper, double-sided, I was dreading that whole process, but dropped the ~200 pages into the reader and it scanned them effortlessly DOUBLE SIDED! into a single PDF document rather quickly. Very impressive. Update 2 years in. I had to replace the waste tank, which was an easy enough process. I put a large 400 page duplex job through it and the fuser went bad, started bubbling the paper. Called Brother, went through the usual support (which went very well), had to take it to a repair shop, agent helpfully recommended one nearby, fuser was still under warranty, so the repair was free. So far we are at 7,000 pages printed, still love the printer.

It just works!
Sick and tired of inkjets drying up, having to constantly reboot the printer and computer to scan or print, irritated by less than satisfactory print jobs, I decided to try a different brand of multifunction printer than the last 8 I've wasted time and money on. The Brother is a little pricier than the others but, it seems I'm finally getting what I've paid for, a printer-scanner-copier (and fax that I don't use) that just works! I load a document or picture and hit scan and it scans, both sides at the same time if I want. The printing looks fabulous! Printing laser quality documents, I expected to look good, but was totally amazed at the quality of pictures, the color is wonderful and I didn't have to replace an ink cartridge after a couple of 8 X 10's. This was bought for home use, not business. I scan a lot but print only every couple of months (just enough time for inkjet cartridges to dry up). Scanning both sides of a document at the same time saves time and frustration (flipping the pages over just to rescan the same side on my old scanner). Replacement toner is going to cost more at one time but will last longer and no worries about drying up! So far, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. Excellent for the price range its in.
The good: This printer has many many features that I've been looking for, One its LED not laser based so that is cool. Second, it has auto duplexing (does both sides) on both printing and scanning. This feature is a must have for mulitple documents. Its handled many document types and is pretty easy. I really appreciate the fact that you can unfold what you need when you need it. For example if you don't want something bent, you can open the back tray and it will unload there. The manual feed is a door on the front, and the ADF of the scanner is opened from the top. Its like a transformer printer. Most of the time it sits in the corner all closed up, and when you need it its there. The other REALLY big bonus that I love is you can communicate from several different ways, USB, wifi, or ethernet. I really dislike wifi for a printer and refused to buy another one. Wifi can be tweaky from time to time and I didn't want to have to deal with resetting it. If wifi was your only option, setting the security and putting in the wifi password with this touchscreen makes it a breeze. You don't need to install software. I run Linux (Ubuntu 13.10) and the install was a breeze, pretty easy to follow instructions on their website. The Bad: I've uploaded two pictures, one shows what a photo looks like when copied the other shows a diagnostic test page I printed while on with tech support. Now I didn't expect the photo to look as good as it does, and that is pretty good for a laser printer I believe. Many people were asking so I uploaded a before and after. If I need a quick photo I can use this, if I want a photo quality I'll take it somewhere. I don't print enough pictures to use the ink in an inkjet, and it gets expensive to have to buy new cartridges every time you want to print. That is why I went with toner based printers and I'll never look back. (I've had my last printer almost a year, and never used its starter toner) The page that shows the colors, you can see several streaks in it, this I was told is normal, and there is nothing they will do about it. I find this a bit unsettling, and as a result it leads me into... The Ugly: Tech support. I do tech support for a living, and I know it isn't the agents its the policies the company has in place. I've had horrible experience with both this company and Samsung. I'll give Samsung credit though, they were better then these guys. If you chat your going to be in for a bad experience. They will give you a link and try to rush you off, even if you have followed the instructions. They will send you multiple links that are very close to the step by step of each other with one or two differences, and won't explain it after you inform them of what you have done. If you use Linux its worse, they will use that as an excuse to not troubleshoot your machine, and will quickly dismiss you or blame your OS even when its clearly the printer, such is the case with the bleeding lines. Overall: Tech support with Linux is always a nightmare, but this company does have great instructions and documentation online. They will however use it as an excuse to dismiss you as fast as possible. The lines bother me, but they refuse to do anything and there isn't anything within $200 more that will satisfy all my requirements such as this one does. Automatic duplexing is such a desired feature for me I won't go without it now. The color isn't, and never will be photo realistic, but for a quick image of something, or for printing a webpage it works just fine. Overall I took one star away for the inconsistent toner in printing, and one for horrible customer service/tech support. I didn't have these lines with my last Samsung laser printer, and tech support reports it is normal. I don't believe them but I've been told that by a few agents so at this point I give up. If I had another option I would take it, but I don't that has the features I want in this (or even $200 more) price range.

Very impressed so far
I've only had this printer a few days, so my comments and star ratings are based on the initial results. I must admit that I am extremely impressed with the documentation/instructions to set up this printer. The step-by-step instructions were actually written in English by someone who fully understands the language. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. It did not take me long at all to have the printer up and running. I agree with some of the other reviewers who reported that the rendering of color in documents is very good. However, for photographs, it is nowhere near as sharp and color-rendering as the HP 3200 inkjet printer that I have used for years (but which, suddenly, does not want to recognize even full ink cartridges and I keep getting an error message - most annoying). The speed of printing is definitely faster than my black and white laser printing. The quality of workmanship appears to be very good, all the parts feel solid to the touch, not flimsy as other printers. I will try to report 6 months to 1 year from now after I've had ample opportunity to use the printer in a daily office environment. For now, my compliments to Brother for putting out such a nice and fairly inexpensive laser printer - with terrific instructions!

Brother MFC 9340-CDW
Unboxing: Machine was packaged very well and there were no issues with damage or any misuse during shipping. Startup: I followed the instructions and everything was moving along smoothly. Then came the wireless setup. HOLY CRAP was this awful!!!! I know what I am doing and for some odd reason the machine was telling me my WEP password was incorrect, even with Verizon on the line. Somehow by some miracle the Verizon tech told me to reset my router and then it worked!! The process took over 2.5 hours! That sucked. Customer Service: While I was going through this wifi ordeal I was on the phone with brother several times and I must say that the customer service was outstanding!!! I was impressed by their patience and professionalism when dealing with me (I was pissed) and in the times I have called them after the wifi issue to talk about scanning, printing, etc they have been awesome to deal with. I would have returned the machine had they not been so good to deal with. Printing: No issues here. I can print from my chromebook, imac, ipad, iphone, and kindle HDX. Quality depends on the paper you use but I am coming from a HP inkjet and it is night and day. Scanning: Love this feature and it works very well. I have been using this more everyday for work and enjoy it as it works fast (under a minute). I cannot scan to the chromebook but I can to the IMAC which suits me just fine. * If somebody can recommend software that can edit pdf in word or pages (for mac) I would appreciate it. I am looking to edit term papers and other documents and I have not found software that will let me do this. OCR just converts it to text but images come up with garbage. Fax: Works great and I found out that I can fax right from the computer without printing out a copy which is awesome. Maybe that is old news for others but for me I love it!!!! Copy: Works well as the printing function does and I have no issues with this in the ADF or the glass. Overall I am extremely pleased with this machine and have been waiting a long time to have a quality AIO for my office. Brother customer service put this over the top for me and I am very excited to keep using this machine in the future. * It is worth noting that I purchased the square trade 3 year plan with this because with my luck I can see something happening and I am out $399 bucks!!

Great printer - low running cost, durable and usable features
I was looking for a printer that scanned both sides, printed colour on both sides, had low running costs and was durable. This printer does everything after doing a lot of research. Since the printer is LED array technology (not laser), the durability is very high because it does not have any rotating mirror components to build the image like laser printers. I've had LED array printers before and I am buying the colour version. The toner is cheap as well, which makes the running cost very low. You can get cheap toner from eBay and here at Amazon. Toner is still toner, no matter what the manufacturers tell you. :) Print quality is not the same as laser, but good enough for most everyday print jobs such as brochures and graphics (if you're printing photos, suggest you look at inkjet instead because of the higher resolution). It also connects to the network enabling me to print from the phone and the iPad. I highly recommend this printer. I've had Brother printers before and this is replacing a black and white printer. I've never gone wrong with brother. They are hardy, last a long time and have overall low running costs.

Inexpensive toner and feature-rich printer! Some streaking in prints.
I bought this for $340 from Amazon.ca directly (unfortunately right now they're sold out!). I purchased a laser printer to replace my ink guzzler of an inkjet printer (especially when you have to clean the print head every week! What a waste of ink!). Some of the main features I was looking for was network-connected, duplexing, and low cost-per-page. Some of the main features that attracted me to this specific model are: * Very low toner cost per page: 14 cents colour, if I recall my calculations correctly * Automatic duplexing * Wi-Fi and wired network capable * Solid driver and configuration software, according to IT friends * Duplexing ADF scanner * Flatbed scanner (I would have preferred legal-size, but I can use ADF when I need to scan legal most of the time) At the price I paid for it, I am very happy with this item. At the MSRP of around $500, I would be slightly disappointed with this item, but not exceedingly so. Pros: * Decent speed: faster than an inkjet. Good enough for me! * Text looks great on it! * Inexpensive toner, especially if purchased on Amazon or Newegg. (Don't go to Staples unless it's an emergency...) * Very easy to set up on a wired network: set the printer on the table, wire it up to the network, configure a static IP (in the case of my network) via the touch panel, download the drivers, install them, and done! Printing without a problem! * * A LOT of configurability. Feels closer to a professional piece of equipment than meant for the consumer market (but only if you dig into the web configuration panel). Nonetheless, if you don't dig into advanced configuration methods, it's very user-friendly to set up for less tech-oriented users. * Google Cloud Print support. Nice if I find something on the go or at work and want a copy ready to read at home. Cons: * Streaking, esp. colour figures. Text looks fine. I've tried a few basic steps to reduce the streaking to no avail, but I'm not too bothered for reports, articles and the like. * Even at full resolution, dithering is more prominent than I would like for colour printing. * Lost a good 2-3 hours trying to get scanning to work when initiated from the computer. I got it working, but I have no idea how I got it working. * Colours tend to be a LITTLE dull. It's fine for reports and articles, and you're silly if you're printing graphic design materials or photographs on an inexpensive home laser printer... * Auto duplexing is of the "print one side, gobble the paper back, print the other side" variety. At this price point, that seems perfectly reasonable, if a little slower than the printer at work. * According to IT friends, the drum/heater have relatively short life and are very costly to replace. However, as a home user with a minimal print volume (a few journal articles, drafts, reports per week), I don't anticipate them requiring replacement before I would reasonably want to replace the unit anyway. UPDATE: After a few months of use, I wanted to leave a quick update. Overall still very good. I'm still very happy with the unit overall, at the price I paid. Printing has remained very reliable. Scanning is still a bit buggy, but since I got it working (involved manually adding/installing a package or maybe it was manually adding a scanner device in Windows's printers; unfortunately, I don't entirely remember what I did) it has worked when initiated from the computer. If I try to initiate it from the printer side and select my computer, however, it fails; this might be my software firewall's rather strict configuration, though, and I've put less than an hour into trying to get it to work. One small annoyance is that the printer disconnects from Google Cloud Print on occasion and doesn't warm me or automatically reconnect. I'm not sure if this only happens when I disconnect or power off the printer, but I suspect so; hence it should be fine most of the time. At my printing volume, the starter black toner looks like it'll last me six months since purchase, and the starter colours might do 10 months. I print 1-2 academic journal articles, reports or similar documents a week, in general.

The only real annoying thing is how much it curls the pages but ...
Update: firmware updates made the wifi rock solid stable. And unlike other brands forcing you to buy their overpriced ink/toner, Brother seems to not play that game. I'm so impressed on that feature alone, I usually by their brand of toner. The only real annoying thing is how much it curls the pages but considering the price, speed and quality of printing I can live with that. This printer replaced an inkjet that was supposed to be lower cost to run than a laser printer but because I wasn't printing high volume that printer was wasting a lot of ink cleaning the heads every week. The final straw on the other brand is they did a firmware update that actually printed blotches if you didn't use their ink (if I printed directly from USB and skipped windows driver it printed fine). It would also park the printhead as normal when finished printing but then if you didn't use their brand they would would move it over and un-park it so it would drain the cartridge and wreck the printer. Put a name brand in and it would park it and leave it parked. Ink shouldn't cost exponential more than gasoline or human blood and then to sabotage the printer if you use another brand of ink is such a dirty trick. Now that I've had this printer for a while and seeing real world results this brother laser printer is costing less than 30% to run than my commercial grade ink jet. First brother printer I have owned and I will definitely be buying another brother if they keep this up.

Printer died in 36 month
It was a good printer while it lasted. It died almost exactly 3 years from receiving the printer. Printer no longer powers on. There are no error codes to indicate the problem. I had purchased AMT 3 year warranty as well (which they indicate starts after Brother's warranty). I recently found out that this 3 Year warranty is actually 2 year, they are counting Brother's 1 year warranty as part of this 3 year warranty.

Poor customer service, but a fine printer for the money
We purchased this printer in February 2015 from amazon.ca. It ran fine for the until last month when it began showing dirty roller type marks on the printed materials. After spending several hours chatting online with the Brother USA and Canada tech support staff, and spending as may hours removing toner and drums, replacing toner and drums, cleaning, re-cleaning, taking pictures, submitting pictures, and printing reports. We were in constant communication with their tech support until we finally requested a replacement printer since this one is under warranty. Then: silence. This is when communications stopped and our e-mails were left unanswered. That was one week ago and we have not heard any reply from the Brother Canada staff. We are now in the process of filing a formal complaint with their corporate headquarters requesting a replacement new unit since they have been traditionally sending refurbished one on warranty claims. Does this printer do the job when it is working? It sure does, and with the quality to be expected for this level printer. However, it is not even worth it weight in plastic and metal when it breaks down. We have purchased several Brother printers in the past, and this will definitely be our last one if we have to spend more time forcing them to honor their warranty. Update: A few weeks after we filed our complaint, we were provided with either a new or very finely refurbished printer. This one works like a charm. This is why we upgraded our rating to a 3-star from the original 2-star.
