UPDATE 2014-FEB-14-- After owning the device a couple weeks, I had some realizations about why the Lectrofan is the best product. Other white noise machines often do not allow a very full range of pitch from high to low. The Dohm, for instance, does have a pleasing sound, but it is not capable of changing pitch too much, just muffling it really, changing the tone some too. Changing the pitch is the SMART way to block out particular sounds. If my roomie downstairs is listening to music from his cell phone or a higher pitched video game, turning the lectrofan on higher pitch blocks it out without having to blast the volume. If is he is blasting bass from his stereo, the lower pitches work better.The low rumbling of White Noise 1 (lowest Pitch) may have a pleasing sound (very much like "Brown Noise," a wonderful sound that many of you researching this topic have probably heard), but it will actually fail to mask many sounds that are higher pitch. Do not make the mistake of leaving it on the lowest pitch and just blasting the volume every time you need to block out louder noise. I suppose that white noise 4-6 would be the best general sound-blocking pitches for when you have a variety of noise in the environment. This kind of use is impossible with something like the Dohm, which I used for a long time before this. There are many sounds which the Dohm will never block without trying to use brute force with the volume (and it doesn't get anywhere near as loud as the lectrofan.) And the Lectrofan can be turned so loud that your room can sound like you are living under a waterfall or something-- so it can basically block out almost any environmental sound (though of course the reality will always be that you have to have it louder than the sound you are trying to block, which is the principle of all the sound conditioners. The point is that the sound is constant and you are not distracted by all the changes in noise.)-- I didn't think I would use the fan sounds too much- I just figured I wanted the white noise. The fan sounds are actually pretty nice. They are soothing and with no perceptible loop (lectrofan told me they were actually algorithms making the noise and not any recording of a fan.) The fans do have one issue that some people will enjoy and others will not, and most people may not even notice. They do have a repeating change in bass, which I notice more than others because I am neurotic about sounds. This change in bass will be more apparent if you have headphones on or earplugs in, but you might like it as a nice constancy. I doubled up on the lectrofans so I could get a richer sound in my room (which is very cool for white noise), but unfortunately the wobbly bass sound of the fans becomes even more distracting then. Others may enjoy this. The major downside of the fans is that they do not have the same range in pitch as the white noise, so they can not do the targeted kind of sound-masking I described above. I suspect people who are not very sensitive or neurotic (i.e., anal) about these kinds of issues will really enjoy the fans, though. I guess they are probably more realistic for having this trait.-- The white noise is pleasant. Higher pitches sound unpleasant at first, but give them a chance, maybe lower the volume. They end up sounding like fans, or rain, or a distant waterfall over time. I have the lectrofans in my room on white noise, but it still kind of sounds like the rushing of air or some other sound in nature with a similar pitch; the brain kind of fills in the gaps or hears what it wants from so general a sound. The sounds grow on you. Sometimes I will be sitting here hearing it as a waterfall, other times I will hear the same sound as air from an airconditioner or a huge downpour of rain. It is a really interesting phenomenon. Or maybe I am just crazy.-- The customer service was great. My first purchase would rattle when I turned the volume up to the highest levels. They sent me a replacement with two day shipping promptly with no questions asked. The new device gets VERY loud (way louder than the Marpac Dohm, it's main competitor) without losing quality.-- I owned a Dohm, but do not use it anymore. This device is more efficient, smaller, louder, and produces a better quality of sound and a wider range of sound. My Dohm started rattling after a few months and so I looked for a better product. Thank God this had been released recently.

I could not love this sound machine more!I have very sensitive hearing (I have quite the anxious relationship with noises and sounds) and it wasn't until finding this particular machine that I found the full benefit of brown noise compared to white noise. I've always slept with fans (and still do), which are wonderful, but found that I just needed that extra something else. The brown noise has truly allowed me the ability to get a GREAT night of sleep regardless of any environmental noises that might be going on in or outside. The machine is small and sleek, fitting great on any nightstand (or where ever). The controls are easy to use and provide a large variation to sounds, volumes (gets VERY loud if you want it too) and frequencies. The sound is also constant and doesn't have any sort of loop change or variation as some other machines might. No annoying clicking or shaking or anything else that tends to happen in the middle of the night to disrupt sleep! The machine is easy to personalize. The machine is very reliable and actually "remembers" the settings you use (sound and volume) so all you have to do is turn it on and off each day. I wish it came with a battery option rather than just a USB plug to use for those random power outages HOWEVER I have found that it truly doesn't use much power and I can plug it into our portable battery pack no problem. I run the machine all night. I love this thing so much! I travel with it and might just buy one for every bedroom in the house. 100% worth the price and literally gives me the greatest peace of mind knowing I will get a quality night of sleep every night.... well... at least with sounds. 1 million percent would recommend!

I think by now I'm on my seventh LectroFan. Why? Because they've provided the only way I've been able to combat increasingly loud Tinnitus. Which started in my late 60's. I'm especially grateful to them because they still give me a fifty-fifty chance of waking-up without any hissing noise in either ear. Just having the "prospect" of not starting each day without negative thoughts is probably only reason I'm very fortunate to still be using them in my ninetieth year.I think the best way to live optimistically with irreversible Tinnitus is to think of it as a wily enemy. So from using one LectroFan - placed a few inches away from a pillow and set to very mild White Noise it has inevitably become an open battle.There are now 2 fans. Both mounted on 2" high and 51/2" square boxes. One is set at medium White Noise.". The other to the lowest possible grumbling White Noise. The latter is very close to my head on one side of a small down-filled pillow, The other about a foot away from the side of my head.Being an old-fashioned architect I've always liked the phrase "nature abhors a duality". As it applies both to the attractiveness of the human face and struggling to compose an attractive front façade of a building - despite all the various elements having to be Symmetrical.The problem with Tinnitus is that however much one tries to avoid a Duality there's bound to be one with Two Ears and Two Sound Machines. Which are both being used to feed information into One Brain.My primitive solution to this quandary has been to add a Third sound and having bought a large number of Natural Sound CD's I thought one of them might help. But as most of them vary in volume and information they all proved to be more of an annoying distraction during the nightly process of hoping/trying to "drop-off".But thankfully one has worked very well for several years. Joe Baker's "Babbling Brook". As it's a single track CD it can run all night by setting a small CD machine to play track number one indefinitely. I think it's major asset is that the noise a babbling brook produces is monotonous - but also very soothing. I hasten to add I am not in any way way connected to Joe Baker. Just very grateful he found such a happy-sounding Brook - which is sited on a small table three feet away from my bed. My guess as to why it has made all the difference is that it's Competing with the next-door very low-pitched White Noise.

We moved into a new home. I love the home.I love the neighbors. We saw the home was near a short side street and small shopping plaza when we looked at it. There was almost no activity on the street, as it was a Sunday when we viewed the home, and it seemed very quiet. No problem. The housing market was insane competitive at the time in our area. Overpriced houses, low inventory, multiple bidders, homes going under contract within 24 hours of being on the market, waiting for a miracle to get your offer accepted. Our offer was accepted. We bought the home. Fast forward to the first weekday I lived here. Turns out the short side street I thought was quiet is one of the the main throughways to the multitudes of neighborhoods around us. Think modified canned mufflers, wanna-be speed car sprint racers, booming bass players, garbage trucks, lawn maintenance trailers, public school buses, garbage trucks, city trolly system, motorcycles. Then to discover the loading dock across the way. Ugh. A. Major. Publix. Grocery. Store. Loading. Dock. Turns out their delivery trucks are huge. MONSTROUS. They have massive semi trucks, 18 wheeler trucks, refrigerator trucks...I have seen every kind of delivery/truck...dairy...beverages....produce...bread...chips...more breads...meats...more chips. Who knew it takes an 18 wheeler size truck delivery multiple times a week just to keep their potato chips isle stocked??! Surprise...IT DOES!! EVERY kind of delivery truck whizzing by our home, entering and exiting the dock and idling across the street at all hours day and night. It causes major noise, beeping as they back up, banging sounds when trucks let down or slam shut their loading ramps...not to mention vibrations in our walls and floors from the trucks. Then here comes the teenagers who get off work from Publix late at night booming the bass in their cars and letting it rip with their sawed off mufflers. So...we had crazy expensive triple pane laminated windows installed. This blocked out a lot of noise, but not all. Then we installed a fence around our home. I am very sensitive to traffic noise. I hate it. It feels like an intrusion in my home and it's unpredictable. The noise doesn't bother my husband, but then again he has some pre-existing hearing loss. I found the Lectrofan and am seriously thanking God because it works. I have 2 in our bedroom...(one near the window by the the outer wall and one on the interior other side of the room). I also bought one for the kitchen and one for the living room. I use fan noise #6 (attic fan) and it's very pleasant. I was told that it's a pink noise. I am not a noise color expert or anything...just in doing some investigating and my quest for peace I have heard that pink noise reduces anxiety and I increases memory...and that pink noise reduces the difference between the background hum and loud, jarring noises that jolt you out of sleep, like slamming doors, or a car horn honking. I keep the volume about halfway between the softest and loudest levels. The sound blocks the majority of the noise but blends into the background easily, so my brain acclimates and I forget about it. If I have to listen to noise, at least with this it can be on my terms. I recommend buying the Lectrofan. For high noise you may want to put 2 in the same room (placing one each on opposite sides of the room). It's well made, and small but effective...the white colored one blends easily with the lighter colors in our home. It's also compact so it fits easily in any area.

Ordered because my husband starting working an 3rd shift job, so he needs to be able to sleep well during daytime. We use it every night, and I even use it when I sleep! I had heard about sound machines and I had researched a bit, and landed on this one.I love the sleek design and that it comes with a long cord. It is easy to figure out the buttons and even to use the buttons in the dark.The sound is good - we ONLY use the deep/low/brown noise. We don't like the other noises, when it gets higher pitches to white noise. It seems to be relaxing noise, AND blocks everything out so well!!! I was very surprised that I can keep sleeping through lots of noises that happen on the main level of the house, which makes me a happy person.Machine works so well, that I will be telling others about this exact machine too. Works good, we love that you can set it for a timer (but we use all night), and seems to very durable to us so far (we've used for a couple of months now). Can't beat the price for our happy sleep!!

For 13 years, We have used small desk fans in our family's bedrooms for white noise. The fans eventually crap out and need replaced. Quality of desk fans have dipped dramatically in the past 3 years and we have had to buy a new fan every 3 to 4 months. I would occasionally look for noise machines that could replicate a fan noise, but the noise machines I found all made ocean, creek,forest, whale, or constipated armadillo noises.This last month, we had two really crappy Honeywell fans crap out on us within days of each other ( this Honeywell fan is a really awful fan for white noise and for air circulation - seriously,don't buy that fan). I didn't want to sink anymore money into cheap crappy desk fans, or spend $50+ on a nice desk fan that will last a bit longer, but will nevertheless crap out. Although I wasn't hopeful, I again looked for a white noise machine and found this unit.It does what it advertises. It creates the white noise needed for my kids to stay asleep. Each room has a different fan setting than the other rooms, so it is nice to have multiple fan sound options and volume on the machine.The speaker quality is good and fills my kids' large rooms. The speaker quality and fan noise quality is superior to using a smart phone or tablet with a noise app. We've tried that before and they all fall short in one way or another.One point that I will absolutely love is that the power cable is a USB connection. It comes with an adapter to plug it into a standard outlet, but the fact that it is USB means I can use it while camping. My family enjoys camping but most of us have a hard time sleeping because there is no white noise. I have to bring a 12-volt car battery camping with us so I can run my CPAP machine. All I need is a DC splitter, a DC USB adapter, and I can run this noise machine too. It does not draw much power. Sweet.Why not five stars? Well, although the speaker and noise quality is good, it still sounds artificial and does not fully replicate the sounds of a fan. It comes close, but not close enough to get five stars. Also it is not cheap. I just hope the units we bought last long enough to justify the money we spent instead of putting the money towards more desk fans.To answer a potential question, no, this fan noise machine cannot be controlled by Alexa or other smart home hubs. At least not out of the box. After being unplugged, or losing power, when it is plugged in again, it turns on and retains the same fan sound and volume setting it had when power was disconnected. So, I think eventually I will get smart outlets installed that can be controlled by Alexa, therefore giving us on/off control of the noise machine with Alexa.********* UPDATE 2018-01-07 **********My son and I went on a boy scout campout. With my 12 volt battery, I was able to run this noise machine. Best night sleep I've ever had while camping.

I have slept with a box fan on in my room for 40 years. I even FLY one to Disney World and take one on driving trips anywhere we go. I knew that there were rain/wave machines, but not until I was reading tips for a cruise that someone suggested a noise maker to drown out noise did I seriously consider one. I quickly looked on Amazon and bought the highest rated noise maker within a reasonable price that I could find. I took it on my first trip and it was really good! I put it on the table next to my bed, found the "fan" noise (out of many) most pleasing to me and selected the from the wide range of volume. It worked! And, I found that although I was creating a lot of noise NEAR me, when I walked away from the bed, the sound pretty well staying in that small area and would not bother surrounding rooms, etc. I should say, I had the volume at about half of what was possible. So, unless I am need a breeze, this device is so much more convenient (about the size of my hand) to take on trips.Update 2/24/18: So, this machine HAD been my go-to for trips, but in my mind I was still addicted to the noise/wind of my box fan when not on a trip. This winter I caught the flu and just could not have the air blowing in my room. So, I went and grabbed this noise machine out of the "cruise" bag and have used it every night for 2 months. I LOVE this machine much more than my fan. It does a MUCH better job of blocking out the neighbor's noisy truck and dogs than the fan does even on high. I guess it blocks noise on many levels. There is PLENTY of volume. It is right next to the head of my bed and I probably have it just shy of midway thru the volume range. Although I am sure when the summer months come, I will want to add the breeze of a fan back, I am happier with the noise of this noise maker. Again, I will say, that the sound stays very local to the area you put it in. Even when I walk to the end of my bed, the sound is much reduced. Also, I have added a small table top 12 inch by 12 inch fan to accompany this noise maker on trips, if needed. I have seen some people say that it quits after a year or two, but so do my fans. I am serious about a good night's sleep and will happily buy a new one when this one quits. If I could give this machine 6 stars out of 5, I would.12-14-2022. Still going. I use it every night and am still on my first one.

Basic, simple, sleep. Its the same diameter as a 2 liter bottle. Has an adapter that plugs in any standard wall type outlet. The adapter then provides the USB port for the LectroFan's USB cord. Or plug it into any other USB outlet. The cord is about 5 feet long, plenty for most situations.I found the 7 sided geometric design has an advantage many other sound therapy machines don't, you can set it on its side! The advantage then is you can POINT THE SOUND in the direction that best suits you! I found that pointing it away from me makes it a little softer (less harsh) of a sound, almost like fine tuning the volume between the 10 settings. It also allowed me to create a more effective barrier between myself and any other sounds. Yes, it could be knocked over from being on its side, but it would take more than just a bump to do it. The sides are flat and about 2 inches square. To me its stable enough that I'm comfortable reaching for it in the dark to adjust where its pointing and/or using all of the buttons to change sounds, volume, etc.As for the buttons and features, no frills is definitely the way to go for me. Other manufacturers do a wonderful job of marketing and romancing people with rain, waterfalls, meadows, ocean waves and more. However many of these things can actually be more of a distraction versus the steady unbroken sounds of a fan or white noise. In fact the consistent, unbroken sound seems to be another coveted feature of this machine. I have not heard anything other than the sound I set it for, continuously until I shut it off.The top half of the left button turns the machine on & off. It will play continuously unless you press the bottom half of the left button, which sets a timer (60 minutes stackable per press). The right side button is for volume, up & down. The left half of the bottom button plays the fan sounds, the right half the white noise sounds. Each time you press the same side/half of the bottom button (FAN / WHITE NOISE), it will change how that feature sounds.The WHITE NOISE sounds like someone telling you to "shhh", be quiet. It starts low, sounding similar to a slow "shhh" sound. Each press produces a higher pitched "shhh" sounding more and more as it does when you force air quickly from your lungs while making the "shhh" sound. The significant point to make here is that unlike when you say "shhh" with a fast exhale, the LectroFan doesn't get louder (unless you turn up the volume).The FAN sounds are not just changing pitch, but actually sound like different types of fans. This can be a huge advantage over other machines! So if you grew up with a certain type of fan, or lived somewhere with a certain type of fan, there's a very good chance you'll find one of the ten fan sounds will be the same or very similar. I was quite surprised as to just how different and also how accurate LectroFan reproduces the sound of different fans. Plus, for me at least, when I put it on its side I could make the reproduced fan sound even more accurate when near a wall or large object. The sound then reflects off the wall adding a reverb or echoing effect.A final note is just to again stress that the number of features and romantic sounds produced by other sound therapy machines may be more clever marketing gimmicks rather than being truly useful. I think for most (not all) people fan noise and white noise are both neutral and less distracting. I feel the fan sounds are very accurate, and having 10 settings for both fan and white noise allows the user to fine tune the sound for a more personal sleep experience. The unit is small, well built, and simple to set up and use. I highly recommend this item and can truthfully say its money WELL spent!P.S. Mine came in a small cardboard box with a hinge to open on one side. There are form fitting cutouts that hold the machine and adapter inside. To me its perfect for travel and better than the soft travel case you can buy for it, since the box protects it too. Its not much bigger than the unit itself either. Just thought I'd mention it in case you want to save a few bucks.

I have been trying to find a white noise machine loud enough to drown out all noises, and finally the LectroFan device does that. Lots of options, a wide range of sound levels. I cannot recommend this enough if you are a light sleeper and need to drown out noises.

Excellent at blocking extraneous noise!!! The machine comes w/ European/UK/USA plugs. Shall travel with it. Haven't slept w/ earlplugs since receiving it. Wish I had bought this years ago!

I looked all over the Internet for a sound machine. I do not enjoy animal, rain or outdoor noises, I LOVE the sound of a fan or window air conditioner unit. If you do, buy this one! I was super impressed with the fan sound options, Sounds identical to my summer air conditioner. I actually bought this because there was a comment from someone else saying it sounds like their fan. That's exactly what I wanted, and why I've left a review to help others. I'm Canadian and my skin cannot afford to have a fan on it with our harsh winter temperatures. It blocks out the noise from traffic and other humans in my house.The machine has no lights emitting from it, it's a nice size, and I personally enjoy the 24 hour feature. (These were all things I was very specific in finding)This product is a 10/10 for me.UPDATE: 5 months later and this machine is still the best purchase I've ever made. I absolutely love this sound machine. I used to fall asleep with my tv on for the noise, but after buying a health tracker band that tracks my sleep quality, the tv was no longer an option. I bought this and within a few days I felt much more rested and my tracker showed the difference in sleep.I turn it on when I'm getting ready to go to bed, select the one sound I always use, and leave it on until I wake up and switch it off. (One time I left it on, you couldn't hear it from the hallway but it was still a loud setting in my room. But the surprise was, the machine wasn't hot and I was gone for 12 hours!) I will be bringing this with me on my upcoming road trip for hotel sleep. It truely has improved my sleep and energy levels.

Se puede decir que es algo como un desodorizante que se usa en el baño, que probablemente no es un perfume bonito, pero es fuerte, no es desagradable y su función es ocultar olores más feos.Obviamente si hay una apisonadora trabajando al lado o un escándalo muy fuerte, el dispositivo no va a poder tapar el ruido de este tipo, pero es muy recomendable para personas que quieren eliminar ruidos más tenues, sin embargo molestos, como televisión, voces, vecinos, perros etc.
