My Low-Maintenance “Sun-Kissed” Shortcut in a Bottle
Every year around this time I have the same realization. It goes something like: “Wow, I am glowing… like printer paper.” I’m naturally pretty fair, and since I work from home and edit videos like a little cave goblin most days, the sun and I are not exactly best friends. I wanted a tiny bit of color without committing to a full self-tan ritual that involves mitts, exfoliating schedules, and praying I don’t look like a streaky pumpkin. Enter this Jergens Natural Glow +Firming lotion. I grabbed it because I wanted something lazy-girl simple. Like… slap it on after a shower and go live my life simple. And honestly? That’s exactly what this is. The first night I used it, I treated it like regular lotion. No ceremony. Just rubbed it in while watching YouTube and went to bed. No weird sticky feeling, no “don’t sit on anything white for 6 hours” panic. It dries like a normal moisturizer, which already puts it ahead of a lot of self tanners I’ve tried. By day two or three, I started noticing that “wait… did I go outside?” glow. Nothing dramatic. No fake tan line energy. Just a soft, believable warmth to my skin like I’d been on a weekend walk instead of glued to my desk chair. It builds slowly, which I actually prefer. You’re not waking up shocked at a new shade of yourself. It’s more like your skin quietly levels up overnight. The lotion itself feels nice too. Not greasy, not heavy. Just a solid everyday moisturizer. My legs especially felt smoother and less dry, which is a win even without the tan. Now about the “firming/cellulite” claims. I’m realistic. No lotion is out here performing wizardry. But I will say my skin looks a little smoother and more even overall. Maybe it’s the hydration, maybe it’s the subtle color helping blur things out. Either way, I’ll take it. The scent is light and clean. Not that classic self-tanner smell that sneaks up on you halfway through the day. Nobody at the grocery store is going to clock you as “recently marinated.” If there’s any catch, it’s just that you have to be consistent. Skip a few days and the glow slowly fades. But that’s kind of the point with a gradual tanner. For around $10, it’s honestly such an easy, low-effort way to look a little more alive and a little less “indoor plant.” Final thoughts: If you want a deep vacation tan, this isn’t it. But if you want a subtle, healthy glow with zero drama and the bonus of good hydration, this stuff is a staple. It’s basically my “fake I go outside” lotion, and I mean that in the best way possible.

Wonderful for light touch of color
As you can see in the before, and after photos, I am super porcelain. This lotion just gives you a light nice color with a glow without turning you orange. so you get the benefit of great lotion and a nice subtle glow. I can't tan and absolutely love how it feels and looks.

Med-Dark gives a great natural looking glow, especially on extremely pale skin
I have very, very fair skin (as in NARS Siberia needs a bit of white mixer to actually be light enough to match me kind of "fair skinned") and while I enjoy my natural skintone I woke up the other morning kind of feeling having some kind of small tan/vaguely bronzed glow to my skin. I had gotten a sample tube of the St. Tropez Purity Brozing Gel a few weeks back for free, remembered I had it, and promptly went out and bought something for my whole body and got to work. I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money and wanted something that wouldn't be an instantaneous dark bronzed look in the event I absolutely hated it. I figured I can always go for an instant tanning product later on if I liked it or felt like this wasn't enough color. I did look up the two different color options before buying and a lot of folks said the darker option gave a more golden-olive hue than the lighter which was more of golden-peach and that the lighter shade was very very subtle. Since I have naturally yellow toned skin I knew I needed to go for the darker option for it to not look weird or possibly orange but also that the darker shade would likely at least give me a bit of noticeable color on the first day - which it did! I prepped my skin as best I could (exfoliated the absolute life out of it and shaved the night before and then applied a very light and non-sticky moisturizer to my dry areas like elbows, knees, ankles, and armpits before bed) and then the next morning I went at it. I applied everywhere that my bra and panties don't cover, including my ears and armpits. The lotion is somewhere on the average to heavy side which is great for my dry skin but I'd imagine oilier folks may not like it. It does dry down and sink in relatively quickly (3-5 minutes) and I didn't notice any kind of residual feeling or texture after that point. There is a scent but I thinks it's pretty subtle and I didn't notice it by the end of the day. Color-wise this is FABULOUS; it's very natural looking and while not super bronzed and tan it's given me a lovely golden glow that I'd guess is around 2 shades darker than my natural skin color after two applications in a row. I definitely did notice a little color from only one application but I was curious how much darker I'd get from another and was pleasantly surprised that while also noticeablely darker it wasn't way too much color. Obviously from my own starting point I still look pretty fair skinned but it's less Vampire-Fair and more Brushed Gold-Fair and I like it a lot. There is a bit of streaking that I noticed but it's super minor and in some hard to reach spots for me so I'm chalking that up to it being a technique thing on my part rather than a fault in the product because places like my arms, neck, and shins look flawless in comparison to the slightly imperfect ones. One thing to note for anyone not used to self-tanners though - it is SUPER IMPORTANT to prep your skin properly before doing it or you will have so many patchy, streaky, strange areas. Elbows, wrists, feet, ankles, anywhere with thin or dry skin will grab the color strong so be sure you avoid those areas until you just have a little residue left from applying elsewhere and then lightly brush over those areas. I wasn't as careful as I thought I was and had to spend a few minutes sugar-scrubbing my dark elbows to get some of the color off. Overall Pros/Cons: Pros: - It's easy to use/hard to screw up - Genuinely gradual color - it's not going to turn you 2-3 shades darker on one application even if you are super fair like me - Scent isn't obnoxious - natural looking color - good value - over two applications I've used about 1/3 of the bottle for my entire body so at $8 a tube for something to try out I think that's great. Also I was a little heavy handed the first go so I probably could have used less than I actually did. Cons: - because it's not instant color it can be hard to tell where you've already put it. I'd suggest just trying to work in quadrants but it's not going to give you a super uneven color if you do overlap in places - It's subtle. For me this is more of a pro but I know some people like really deep tans so please be aware this is not going to give you that from one or two applications - it's somewhat heavy so there are going to be folks with certain skin types that just will not like how this feels. If that is the case - an alternative is the St Tropez bronzing gel is super lightweight and while not as gradual as this it will actually give you a pretty natural looking color (I got a sample in my Allure box that I used on my face with this on my body and it's stellar). In all, I think this is a pretty great subtle tanner that's beginner friendly or great for clowns like me that wake up one morning and decide "I got a bottle of sample tanner, let's buy something for the rest of me and dump them all over 2 hours before work and see what happens!" And pale skinned people need not be afraid of the darker option (but I'll still be afraid of the dark instant-tanners because man I've seen those go super dark).

Good for Me
I have never had much luck with these self tanning products but several people recommended that I try Jergens. It gives just enough healthy tan for me and does not look orange, etc. I am old so some of my age spots on my legs show more but that is ok, Smells pleasant and when I wash my hands after applying, no staining at all. I will continue buying this product.

Goes on evenly no orange
Great, tanning product, get the gloves to go with it. It goes on evenly, no streaks, no orange coloring. I'm very light complexed, but this gives me a great color better than a tanning booth

Very little “glow”
I would give this a rousing “meh”. I have pretty light skin that tans but early in the season i have light areas I don’t want, eg my upper arms, upper thighs, etc, that never catch up. The color this added, after months of regular use, is barely negligible at best. Softens nicely, smells okay if you’re into vanilla, but basically a waste for adding color in my opinion. I can’t imagine buying the dark tint so i guess i will try a different product next Spring before the shorts and tank toos come out.

Excellent product for short-term use
I needed a tan quick (like in 3 days) because of an off-the-shoulder shirt I planned to wear to the Celtic Festival. With my work schedule, there was no time to sit in the sun, so I purchased this product. Fortunately, it arrived the morning before the event, so I had exactly 1.5 days to get a tan. I scrambled to put it on immediately upon opening the box (I should have read the online advice for applying sunless tanning products, I would have known to exfoliate my skin prior ... but it worked fine without all that hassle). I put on rubber gloves, because I was worried about it absorbing into my hands too much (probably a senseless fear). I proceeded to lather my body up with the lotion, which felt creamy and hydrating. There didn't seem to be much scent to it, so I was hopeful all the "stinky" hype was just that, hype. Then, I had to walk around the house naked until the lotion dried ... about 15 minutes. It was still a little tacky and I was worried about it damaging my clothes or causing streaks, but it worked out fine. If you don't mind being a nudist, this product is definitely for YOU. I felt weird walking around, unable to sit while this product dried. But knowing I was on a time limit for a tan helped motivate me. Within about 2-3 hours I already noticed some color change. It looked very natural, a light light tan. So I was hopeful. For 6-10 hours, I made sure NOT TO GET WET anywhere on my body (with the exception of my hands, because who can go 6-10 hours without washing their hands??!!). That is what I read online about sunless tanners (which I read after I applied, oops). Anyway, it takes 6-10 hours for the product to begin the chemical changes with your dead skin cells to create the tan-like appearance of your skin. If you bathe or wash the lotioned parts off before 6-10 hours, you will stop the chemical change from happening and not get tan. The smell was starting to be obvious within about 5-6 hours after applying. So obviously the chemical change was happening as expected. I didn't like that smell. It smelled like a fake body odor. Like someone rubbed a bunch of sweat all over my body and let it dry. Nope, not something I'd want to smell all the time, but I dealt with it, I was on a tan-deadline. I used the product again that evening, again, because I was on a deadline. Then went to bed after prancing around naked another 10-15 minutes (which hubby didn't mind), but the not being able to sit down part was difficult. If I sat, the lotion would rub off my legs, so I stood and hid in the shadows as much as possible. Finally, I was dry and dressed. Since I slept for about 8 hours, I was able to shower in the morning, YAY! Washed off that stench. Then, the day of the festival, I looked radiant in my off-the-shoulder shirt. LOVED the results, just not the process. So, I will use this product again, but not on a regular basis. It works. And the light tan lasted about 5 days before wearing off.

Feels like luxury
Takes about 2 applications to get a noticeable tan. Smells heavenly. I was so worried my tan would look orange, but it looks incredibly natural. This is perfect for beginners like me who are new to tanning

Natural Glow Firming Moisturizer
