Worth it, 6 years without issue.
I've had mine for a few years now. I bought it for the kitchen, although I don't use it a lot because exhausting it is an issue. I have indoor cats and can only open the window for the hose when I'm around to supervise. My windows are outward opening with side hinges so window kits are useless. I use it mostly for a quick cooldown after cooking or when the sun is especially strong.I don't use the dry setting at all - it pumps out warm air, which I've seen described as a dehumidifier setting (my Meaco dehumidifier doesn't do this. It simply sucks the moisture from the air and dries laundry in hours. No noticeable heat output at all). The fan setting works as intended. Nice when you're standing in the stream of air, otherwise no effect. The cool setting, or the air conditioner, is brilliant (just as good as my bigger, more expensive AEG ac which very effectively cools down a south-east facing living room). I've never had leaking issues or sound issues. If you set it to the lowest temperature, which is 17 degrees, it stays on. If you set it higher then you will hear it coming on and going off to keep the room at that temperature (my AEG also does this - it's not a fault or a problem unless you deem it to be). These things work hard, they are not going to be whisper-quiet.It's heavy, although I can just about it lift it up to place on the kitchen worktop. It does have a very generous exhaust hose and power cable (both considerably longer than the AEG), and in all I would recommend it. The only negative I've found is that you can't lock the digital display on top and there have been some occasions when one of my cats has jumped onto it and accidentally changed the mode from fan to cool when the exhaust hose hasn't been connected - hot air being blown around your kitchen is not what you need during a heatwave. As an afterthought, I would advise anyone with this ac (or any portable ac) to buy an insulation cover for the hose as they do let some heat leech out without one.

Loud, but cold.
It is loud, no denying that, but it does the job and kicks out icy cold air. We haven't had any extreme heat to really put it to the test, but we've had a few warm nights and I've inatantly noticed a big difference when I've tested it out. Our bedroom is 3rd floor, south facing, 4x4m. No concerns about it doing a good job when I really need it to.First time I switched it on it made an awful squealing noise, but I think it just needed time to settle after I'd moved it around. I left it 24 hours before trying again and that noise had gone.I use the low fan speed in cool mode and find the noise and cold air similar to cranking up the AC in my car. It feels freezing cold to stand right in front of it.It does seem really loud at first but you do kinda get used to it and drown it out. It's worth it for the cool breeze whne you really need it. The fan noise is constant, but the compressor which cools the air cuts in and out every so often. Again, you get used to it, but its like a super loud heavy duty fridge. A low, rumbling, loud, rhythmic humming. If you want anything quieter you'll need a professionally installed wall AC unit with an external compressor for £1.5k and above. For £300 I really can't complain. It's pretty big, but looks good. It's heavy, but moves well on wheels, even on carpet. I actually lifted ours up on top of a chest of drawers to get it closer to the window for the hose. Had to buy a 3rd party window kit but setup was all pretty straight forward.Overall I'm happy with it and looking forward to bringing those extreme temperatures down in the height of summer.

A godsend in the heat wave
This AC unit has been a life saver. We bought a very good air cooler last year but it was really was just a glorified fan. Unless using both ice packs in water that's been chilled in the fridge, plus a bunch of ice cubes, it wan't particularly effective after the first half an hour. This coupled with the fact that we've got a fairly small home office which runs a minimum of 2 PCs and 4 monitors each day and is in full sun for the majority of the day, meant it just wasn't working for us.I was put off by the price of an AC unit but finally relented and I just wish I'd given in sooner. It's an absolute game changer. It allowed us to not only make our little office bearable in the heat wave of 2022 but actually super pleasant. We were able to continue working when other remote working colleagues had to stop and be "sent home for the day" as it were.As for negatives, it IS fairly loud, but it's not really that much louder than the air cooler we had or regular fans. It is quite big. I think this was among the smallest we looked at though. You get used to it eventually but it does take up a bit of space - more so given you have to pull it out from the wall to attach the pipe. The pipe really is not very long, 1.5m I think, so you do have to have the unit quite close to a window. As far as I can see there's no way to order a longer version, an extension, or even a replacement if the supplied one is damaged. This really is the biggest negative for me. And of course it doesn't come with a universal window adapter, those need to be ordered separately.Despite those negatives, they really are outweighed by how good this thing is and what a difference it's made to our comfort and ability to work in our little office during the summer. It also works as a regular fan and a dehumidifier to boot.I'm glad it has a fairly high efficiency rating as I'm sure it costs a fair bit to run, especially with the cost of living and energy crisis kicking off, but we only run it when the temperature is getting a bit too much during the summer so it's a cost I'm happy to bear. Can't put a price on personal comfort when working.

Very effective and quiet for a portable air conditioner. Also very compact
I have used personal air conditioners around my house for many years, including in the bedrooms. Without exception, they have all been noisy, to the point of being loud. They have also been monsters in size.I ordered the Chilly from the specifications for noise, not worrying too much about size or the varying reviews.I have to say I am really impressed. Firstly, on unpacking, the unit is very compact. I would say around 75% smaller in all dimensions than the smallest of my other air conditioners. Also, with the vents being at the front, I can direct the airflow much better than on others where the primary direction is up (I know cold air sinks, but being able to direct the airflow to where I want is better, in my opinion).Setting it up is a breeze (geddit). Attach the pipe and put it through the window, connect to the mains and switch on. There the real good stuff happened. The unit started blowing cold air immediately and it is so, so quiet compared to what I have become used to. In the bedroom, where it is located, it is little louder than a fan, especially when in sleep mode. The remote control does all the work, options on the unit itself are minimal. This is OK, but I would have preferred to have all options on both the unit and remote control. Just a personal viewpoint, not a criticism in any way.I also received as a separate item the window kit. This clearly says it is for sliding windows and that is true. It is no good for casement (side hinge) windows. Don't worry, just put the end of the pipe outside the window, close it as much as possible and it is OK.Finally, performance. I use this in a fairly large bedroom. It cools down quickly and keeps the room at a good low temperature. There is a little difference in noise between when the cooling is working and when it ticks over in fan mode. There is a little difference in noise between slow and fast fan speeds, but nothing intrusive. Left on auto or sleep mode and the noise is actually quite relaxing, once you have got used to it.It's not for a large room and you have to accept there will be some noise. With that said, I think this is a fine air conditioning unit at a very fair price. It seems to be a good quality build and I am a very satisfied customer.

Didn't work for me
I believe it was my mistake. The product itself seems good and I read good reviews before purchasing, and don't get me wrong, it is a good product, but you need to ask yourself if you need one of these in your house. This portable units (very heavy although has wheels so no problem in one floor house) work absolutely fine while plugged, cold air flows straight away the moment you turn it on, but the second you turn it off, the room temperature goes back to where it was, or even hotter (is that even possible??). Having the machine plugged in the whole time/night would not be an issue but it is definitively very noisy (I'll say 5x the sound of a standard fan at the lowest setting) . So definitively something to take into account. I have had it for one year and it did not work for me, but as I say, because it wasn't the product I needed.

Rubbish aftercare help. I wouldn't bother.
Did a fair amount of research and this one seemed about the best with regards to good reviews, price etc. Product arrived in good time, well packaged and looked new and shiny. Was actually looking forward to the muggy summer nights to try it out properly.Unit cools the room down quickly and was working well but then I get a P1 error code. It means the drip tray is full and you have to empty to use the "cool" mode. I would empty the tray, which isn't too easy as it means lifting the 25kg unit off the ground onto something to drain out the bottom. After which it would fill up again after 20-40 mins. I have had Air Con units before and never had this issue so wasn't too hopeful. It constantly will fill up with water no matter what temperature it was set on, even when the temperature was set at 28 degrees cooling, which was higher than outside, I tried all sorts of things for weeks. My thought is the compressor is faulty, but i'm no expert. This is where it gets annoying. Inventor Appliances are based in Greece and sell only via Amazon. I took out the 2 year warranty (Which is free), you just have to register it on their website. But it takes them absolutely ages to reply and their solutions are useless. It took 24 days after a few emails going back and forth just to get to the model number of my unit, and that it isn't very effective when it's too hot...?, surely that's the idea of an Air Con unit?Amazon have been really good, accepting the unit back for a full refund and even paying the £65 return postage (Does help to be a customer for 15 years and also prime member). But it has been weeks of agro to get this sorted.I think I've been unlucky as a lot of people have raved about this unit but if you do get a dodgy one expect plenty of agro to get it all sorted. Next year i'll go to Curry's or Screwfix or something to get one. Probably pay £40 more but at least you actually have somewhere you can take it if you get problems.

Simple, effective (if a bit basic) - Great value for small rooms.
I've been using the Inventor Chilly 9000 BTU portable air conditioner for nearly five years, and overall it has been a solid little unit, especially for the price. It’s ideal for cooling a small room and does a reliable job of keeping the space comfortable during warmer months. It's a fairly basic unit with just two fan speeds and no automatic air swing etc.Noise-wise, it's fairly quiet however the condenser/compressor fan (I think) doesn't stop when the compressor cycles off, so when it is not conditioning (i.e. at the right temperature) or on fan mode it isn't as quiet as some models. The build quality reflects the price. The unit still functions well after several years, but the adjustable vents don't always stay aimed in the right direction (they can droop). As it's a few years old and a budget unit that’s understandable, but worth noting. If you're looking for an affordable and straightforward portable AC for a small room, the Chilly 9000 is a good option.
