Advantage II Large Cat Vet-Recommended Flea Treatment & Prevention | Cats Over 9 lbs. | 1-Month Supply

I like to know things. One question I had was how in the *#*@ does an indoor cat get fleas? I looked it up and it's a lot more common that one might think. Fleas are jumpy little things that find their way onto shoes, clothing, and other things people bring home with them. Unless one never leaves their house, there's a very good chance of bringing fleas in with you without ever knowing. Long story short, once I noticed the fleas, I took steps to get it under control. A flea comb is essential! My vet recommended a topical, so I spent the big money and went with a FRONT of the LINE solution. It was supposed to be the best in the biz. I followed the directions and it did absolutely **nothing** for my cat. I was still combing live fleas out of her by the hundreds. It was a total waste of money. A week later I applied another dose of the FRONT of the LINE topical. Again, it did absolutely **nothing** for her. After which, I tried a flea spray to no advantage. She hated it, it smelled terrible, and because she hated it, I couldn't get it far enough into her long fur for it to do any good. We ended up using the spray on our furniture and her carpets. We did NOT want to put her in the bathtub. I mean, if you've ever bathed a cat in less than a full suit of armor, you know what I'm talking about. I purchased a dry flea & tick shampoo along with the same brand of spray. The waterless flea bath "does" kill fleas after a few seconds in the foam, but she hated it so much her behavior changed drastically. Drastically enough that it scared the crap out of me. She stopped coming in the living room, stopped perching on the back of my chair, wouldn't jump on me for cuddles, was lethargic, and stopped sleeping on my chest after I went to bed. She wasn't acting like herself. At. All. That said, I was still combing live fleas out by the dozens. That number would have been a lot higher but since she was already not acting like herself, I didn't want to stress her out even more by doing more combing. Enter Advantage II Large Cat. I always do a lot of research before using a new product. I had seen the nightmare reviews of skin burns and worse. Even so, there were a lot more good reviews than bad...and I was getting desperate. Using the Advantge II Large Cat was my 2nd to last resort. IF it didn't work, she was going to get a water bath...and I don't have a suit of armor. I was looking as forward to doing that as I would look forward to dragging my body over razor wire...which is essentially the same thing. I am very happy, thrilled in fact, to report that this product worked beautifully! I properly applied the product on 10/29/25 at 3pm. I was very careful to make sure I parted her long fur enough for it to get on her skin. The product takes a full 12 hours to reach is max potency. After 12 hours, I was coming less live fleas from her. It is now 10/31/25 and at last combing, there were NO live fleas. Zero. Ziltch. Nada. Her behavior is returning to normal, she's not scratching/biting like a little banshee anymore, and she had no adverse reactions to the product. I will continue to be diligent with the flea comb to see if she needs another treatment next week. Knowing what I know now, I wish I wouldn't have wasted my money on the FRONT of the LINE solution and used Advantage II Large Cat from the get go. I could have saved my cat and myself a lot of undo stress and worry. I highly recommend this product. Note: If one is worried about their cat's skin, I recommend using one or two drops to "test" how your cat will react to it before giving the full dose.

TL;DR: Works quickly, easy to use, and stopped a full flea flare up in a day without turning it into a huge chore. I use Advantage II Large Cat (for cats over 9 lbs) on my big boy and it’s been excellent. Within about 12 hours of applying it I started seeing dead fleas, and after a full application the problem was under control. It kills adults, larvae, and eggs, so it actually breaks the cycle instead of just treating what’s visible. Application is easy just part the fur at the base of the neck and apply. No strong smell, and once it’s dry it’s waterproof. He’s over 9 lbs so this size is perfect for him, and I’ve had no irritation or issues. Reliable, vet-recommended, and effective. Highly recommend for large cats if you’re dealing with fleas or want solid monthly prevention!

With my review i am going to address points from reviews posted. This review is only based on my personal experiences. 1. Price. Yes, this product is expensive. However, it's absolutely worth it. It works very well and I've always felt that my cats not suffering is more important than the price tag. Also, here on amazon is significantly cheaper than other places. (Saved $20 buying it here instead of 1800petmeds) 2. Balding. There are a few things that need to be known for this product. Make sure you are using the appropriate dose for your cats. Weigh them. Do not assume their weight. If they are on the borderline, use the smaller dose or dont use all of the larger one. Also dont put it all in one spot. Make a line from the back of their neck to their shoulder blades. 3. "Frontline is cheaper and does the same thing". Incorrect! Frontline is cheaper but in order for frontline to work, the fleas have to bite the animals. This product does not require them to be bitten. 4. "Fleas didnt go away." You cannot expect any flea product to completely rid your home of them. It takes a minimum of 3 months to completely get rid of them if you actively fight against the fleas. You need to vacuum your floors and furniture every day at least for awhile. You also need to keep up with your laundry and wash blankets regularly, including your bedding. And its also very important to be spraying your furniture down with flea spray. RAID or Hotshot work wonders for this! Spray your furniture and bedding down every night. I also spray in the crevices of my apartment because fleas like to hide. 5. "Fleas were going everywhere so i had to give them a flea bath." Do NOT do this. Them jumping off your pets is a GOOD thing! That means the product is working. If you bathe them before the product has time to set it, you just wasted your money. This is why you need to be keeping up with prevention in your home. Theyre jumping off your animal because the product is working. Vacuuming, washing, and spraying is what will combat the infestation. You CANNOT get rid of fleas completely in a short period of time so dont expect a miracle. That's where people get disappointed. Let the product do its job and play catch up for the next few months. And make sure you're keeping up with the doses!!

I have two indoor cats that had never had fleas before. After a trip, we noticed they were scratching a lot. I wasn’t sure the first product had completely solved the problem, so I tried Advantage II. I applied it to both cats on the same day. The next day, I found several fleas around the house, especially near their favorite sleeping area. The fleas were large, but they were lying on their sides and barely moving, which showed the product was working. My cats were much more comfortable after the treatment, and the number of fleas quickly started to decrease. I’ll continue vacuuming to help break the flea cycle, but I’m very happy with the results so far. It was easy to apply and seemed to work quickly. I recommend it to anyone dealing with a similar situation, especially since sometimes you don’t see fleas on your pets — you only notice the scratching.

I've bought this twice using it on two different cats. One that goes outdoors regularly and the other that only ventures out for very short periods of time. Both scratch often indicating mites and fleas, though we've NEVER seen a single flea on them or in the house. (Yes, I know that allergies and food can cause scratching too, but this is seasonal coming more when they spend time outdoors.) My rating is based on mixed results. Applying the product is an admitted challenge as both cats fiercely react when the lotion is sensed on their neck. They immediately jerk away making me wonder if it burns or irritates in some way. I'm also concerned that the application may fail to be totally applied to their skin making it less effective. Sometimes I see them stop scratching a couple days after application, sometimes not. I've purchased product based on their weight to ensure proper dosage. Overall, this is nowhere as effective as what the vet prescribed which immediately stopped the scratching and ear mites. I tried this simply because I can buy it without a prescription. The vet requires me to bring in both cats every six months before renewing the prescription and that costs me many hundreds of dollars which seems totally unnecessary and adds to the already high cost of the treatment prescribed.
