M48 Tactical Tomahawk Military Axe - Black Color | 3 ⅞” Cast Stainless Steel Combat Axe with Piercing Spike | Nylon Cord Wrapped Fiberglass Handle

Compared to my trench hawk the M48 is a light weight. That just happens to be just what I was looking for. A light smaller hawk to be the alpha to the beta condor jungle bowie. Both are not heavy but nimble and work well together. My other combination is the cold steel trench hawk and cold steel chaos tanto. The weight really goes up with those two. But back to this hawk. I would not say it is for heavy abuse like breaking bricks and tearing down steel vault doors. Jumping buildings in a single bound and all the other superman stuff some people try to put it through. You know you guys, The ones that use a nice katana to cut a tree down....or a cheap katana,,,dude,,,get an ax or buy a saw, GEESH. Use the items for what they are intended for and if you need a crowbar...well, that is why they make crowbars. In my opinion this is a light weight defensive tool. It is nowhere in the ugly beast category the cold steel trench hawk is in. That trench hawk is tough as it looks, wicked mean looking, and will hold up to much more abuse the m48 would. And for about the same price. All I am saying is if you pick the tool for the job, you will be much happier and not writing unhappy reviews. The fit and finish on this is good to very good. It is sharp but could be sharper and the grip could use some improvement. But those things I can fix and the price is right. It is a fast striker and leaves a mark. So far seems tough enough for my purpose. So 5 stars it is and if you decide to buy one, it would make a fine addition to your tool box. Here is a follow up. I covered the haft in that non slip sand paper like stuff they use for stairs. It feels much better. For my cold steel african walking stick I bought some cane tips. I had some left over and stuck on one the end. It went on snug and helps with weapon retention.

I ordered this for my emergency kit to keep in my car. I already have a small hand axe but, it's way too small to really cut anything substantial. I also have a nice sized rock hammer and while it's good for digging into the ground and crushing rock, it's not very practical for a survival situation. Now I have the M48 Hawk and it's a really wonderful tool for my kit bag. 1st - while it is a small, personal axe; the handle is long enough to use with two hands to really get some power into the swing to be able to dig into or take down some decent diameter firewood. 2nd - the pick on the back allows for entrenching like my rock hammer but, I am able to cut and entrench in one tool. Yes, I know, the back edge is more for personal defense and breaching, however, it is good to be able to dig a water channel around your camping site so you don't get wet or dig for water in an old river bed as well. 3rd - the nylon handle makes it quite a bit lighter overall and with it being so blade heavy, you really get some power on the down stroke, kind of like you get with a kukri. 4th - since the blade is stainless, I'm very much hoping I will be able to keep it in my car and not have to worry about rust spots from condensation from temperature fluctuations. Overall, a very good investment in camping, emergency survival equipment.

I have always wanted a hawk, and while I was shooting for K5's Tactical Spike, I settled for United Cutlery's M48 Hawk because of its availability and free shipping with my Prime Account. Let me be clear: I'm very impressed. United Cutlery has made a fine, fine tool. My initial impression was that it was a very head-heavy axe and at first it didn't feel good in my hands. Its weight was unexpected, and the handle seemed too slim for my hands. But it looks beastly and very aggressive and appeared well constructed and sturdy. I took it out and took a throw at a tree and was disappointed that it didn't stick, but it did make a rather nasty gash in the poor thing. So I set up a large piece of 1/2 plywood with some linoleum tile on it from a destruction project (home improvement) that we're working on. Let me say, the M48 is a natural thrower and the spike is simply vicious. A nice and easy throw from 10-15 feet easily penetrated the target, and in no time you can achieve a pretty good degree of accuracy. I painted a man-sized target on the plywood and highlighted some vitals and with a little work, I was able to routinely hit the spots at which I was aiming. The axe blade doesn't routinely stick without putting some additional force behind it, but it'll certainly do the job. After throwing a hundred or so times, the metal shows virtually no signs of wear except for the removal of some of the bluing/paint, and this despite there still being a fair amount of nails in the wood. (I'm not easy on this gear - who wants to buy something like this and baby it?) Thinking the handle too slim, I decided to wrap it in 550 paracord. While it looks great, it has changed the weight and it'll take some practice to get back to the level of accuracy/competence that I had with the M48 out of the box. The handle now feels fatter and has a much better grip, but with the degradation in throwing ability, I might have to remove the wrap. The only weakness to this hawk is the aforementioned handle, which some might find too slim. While it is grooved, I'm not sure it would be sufficiently "grippy" in wet conditions. Other than that, I'd have to say that the M48 is a great investment. EDIT: As I mentioned above, the only weakness was the handle. This proved to be prophetic, as the handle broke yesterday after a throw into a wooden target. I'd still recommend this hawk, as I got several hundred throws out of it and was not easy on it at all. I'm going to take the well-built axe head off it and find a new haft and it'll be as good as new.

I recently purchased the M48 Hawk for just over thirty bucks, and I'm extremely happy with it thus far. I must say, it feels sturdy and well made, and the nylon sheath it comes with is very good. The blade is sharp, and the engineering is sound, fitting well into my hand and allowing me to grip low on the handle or right next to the head. I've banged it around a little, and it shows no sign of breaking, at least not under normal usage conditions. The main reason I'm writing a review is because this particular weapon seems to give me a tremendous desire to chop things up. That's not to say I'm considering going on some kind of homicidal spree or anything... It's just that when I hold this little axe, I have an overwhelming desire to chop with it. Indeed, sitting in my house, I have an odd compulsion to throw it at a door or the wall. I don't typically have this sort of feeling when I'm holding a gun or a knife, and it is to convey this unique experience that I've written this review. Overall, this is a very well made tool/weapon, and I'd highly recommend purchasing it. Also, if you feel that this weapon instills you with a strong desire to swing it and smash some things, let me know in comments. I know, I know, it's United Cutlery but this is, indeed, one exquisite Hawk; at any price! If you are a knife collector, outdoors-man, martial arts practitioner or an edged weapons enthusiast and you haven't picked up a tomahawk yet I would emphatically urge you to do so forthwith. The weight, balance, fit, finish and over all quality of this item are truly amazing to behold. I mean when you open up this box and hold this ax in your hands for the first time you truly do feel like you've bought yourself something. Versatility this baby has in spades; as a light weight camp ax for processing damp wood on a rainy day or a devastatingly executive instrument of self defense tomahawks are probably more up to the task than you are. There are a lot of budget tomahawks out there but there are no other options in this price category that even come close to this one. As inexpensive as these are you can't go wrong. The sheath though... Well, that's sort of not this item's strong suit. While functional, and completely capable of carry, I would determinately opt for a custom Kydex sheath of some sort. That being said, This is a great deal and if you practice martial arts you're going to fall in love with the United Cutlery UC2765 M48 Hawk. I guarantee it. (oh, and the handle.. The handle material is a hardy glass lined polypropylene and feels really nice in the hand but I went ahead and added a black 550 para-cord wrap just to insure a positive grip in the event I might ever find myself in need of something like that).

I bought this for a friend as a surprise but had it shipped to my house first to handle it and make sure I wasn't sending something cheap that would break easily or just plain looked like it came from a quarter machine. This tomahawk is amazing! You can tell from handling that the handle is very sturdy and the whole thing is very solid. Its not full tang but seems very strong never the less. I think the over all aesthetic design is beastly, you just want to throw it and bash things. Fun to look at and even better to hold. The center of mass is great, making this easy to maneuver. Choking up high on the handle makes easy work of fine/ close cuts or for making kindle shavings. This would be great for camping as well as throwing! And the blade is sharp right out of the sheath; I easily sliced my thumb taking it out the first time-I was so impressed with the edge I wasn't even angry I got cut. I won't be hesitating to purchase another one for myself.

My hopes were high after a couple of video reviews and all the other reviews on this product... And i must say it doesn't disappoint... The M48 Hawk is a perfect weapon or tool, based on how you intend to use it... Well balanced and just the right length to wield either with one arm or two... Good gripping surface and comes with a provision to loop a paracord for securing it well... The blade is a wicked sick design as it has a good head to toe ratio and the rear guard doesn't disappoint one bit... The actual cutting edge is quite sharp... The butt is not sharp but good enuf to pierce any soft objects... Sheath is also reasonably good but could have been better in terms of perfect fitting... For a comparison, check the cold steel trench hawk's plastic sheath... However, this is but a minor setback, if one considers it so... Overall i have thoroughly enjoyed wielding this blade and scaring the living daylights out of my family and friends, who, after initial apprehensions have begun to like it themselves... Thoroughly recommended for campers/trekkers and adventure enthusiasts... Or even for someone who just loves wicked blades with skulls engraved on them :D Special mention to the one day delivery by Jalic.Inc... Truly appreciated...

the M48 much better then i expected and i bought mine February of 2013 i waited to write the review because i was skeptical about none full tang construction and fiber glass handles and wanted to make sure it would never break from hard use and used it a lot since to cut fire wood and brake up many pieces of furniture to burn because we have a 8 hour fire once a week if is warm enough so we need lot of wood, i do us other hand tools but this one has been used the most. have one yard work i also have many fun hours throwing this into plywood it has been my go to axe and almost a year off very hard use the handle still has no play and the blade is still little bit sharper then most axes it came so sharp it cut paper better then some of my knifes because it is made of knife steal like most tomahawks but that went away fast. the stainless steel held up very well i hit nail rocks many time and the nicks are small and easy to get out and the back spike obliterates everything ever sheet metal not much gust wanted to see if it could .i am very happy with this buy and would highly recommend to all. i love this thing

Die Optik ist sehr gut - nun muß sich die Axt auch noch beim Camping bewähren. Den Griff habe ich mir mit Leder beklebt, so liegt die Axt auch noch bestens in der Hand

Wie schon geschrieben.....habe ausgeholt und mit schmackes auf ein dicken Baumstamm geschmissen. Der Stiel ist genau dort gebrochen wo der Metallschaft aufhört, definitiv ne Schwachstelle und absolut unbrauchbar. Habe schon Erfahrung mit Werfen von Messer also kommt mir nicht mit Laie ode zu dumm zum werfen. Würde man wenigstens nen neuen Stiel bestellen können würde ich 3Sterne verteilen aber so leider nur 1 Stern. Condor Throwing Axe Double Bit kann ich empfehlen die is wenigstens an einem Stück und seit nem halben Jahr immer noch in Gebrauch
