My kids love board games, and they loved the "Hunger Game" books. However, this game is not too exciting, even though it is well made.

Great Hunger Games strategy!

When I was looking for a Hunger Games game, we got several, but this is the family favorite! It's got enough strategy to keep everyone interested, from teens up to adults. The game is fair and balanced. And there's plenty of "wiggle room" to allow for your own permutations and modifications!In a nutshell: pick a Tribute to be. Each has a special ability as well as ratings in 4 characteristics. Put out cards (as many as there are players), and each person has 3 tokens to place face-down on the cards. The cards are modified by one or more characteristics. You win the card based on your value for the characteristic plus your effort token(s), plus your die roll. The person who wins the most points (based on the point value of each card you win) is the winner.Even my 5 year old loves this game, because it allows him to practice addition (characteristic plus effort token plus die roll), so it's a win-win for the entire family!

Good birthday gift for a 13-yr-old girl

My daughter gave this to a friend as a birthday gift (friend was turning 13) and it was very well received. They haven't played it yet, so I can't give that helpful feedback, but it was a hit and the friend is excited to try it out after reading the description on the box.

My daughter really wanted this game after reading the reviews I didn't think it was for us. She still wanted to purchase it. The up side is it wasn't a lot of money lost. It is complicated and suited for older teens and adults.
