I don't see why not. They are very sturdy .

It would depend on neckline perhaps in the back or front and how much material. I have used for a light duster in the front mid section and they are pretty secure. Never used for a dress but might work- and they are pretty.

Are they nickel free?

Not certain of that. I have not had any issues at all with them though. Still look and work great
