Beast Mode
Not sure why this particular product has lower reviews for a Makita product. It truly is a beast, I have a 36" wood drill bit and it plowed through no problem

Makita muscle
This my fourth Makita 18v drill and I also own several other Makita 18v tools..... so I'm not sure I can add anything else. Torque to weight on all their drills is spot on, dependability, build quality, and the battery technology is in my opinion superior to the others. The only quark is that the LED light placement tends to blocked slightly and doesn't shine directly at the work area or target. I wish this had the hammer drive feature but I knew that when I purchased it. The next model has it and is a few more dollars. I had a budget and this fit it perfectly. I wish Makita would put the chuck from the higher model on this one that has a more course or rugged grip. The fine pattern to grab on this chuck is fine but seems to slip in the hand when tightening. A very very minor quark that I'm sure only bugs me. This is a fine product from Makita and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

Best one yet!!
This is my third Makita cordless drill. First one went in the dumpster after the chuck stopped working. Second one overheated while being used mixing thinset mortar. Both of them where combination drills, drivers and concrete. This one does not have the concrete funtion, which I always felt was a waste since I have two SDS drills for that, which work a thousand times better for drilling concrete. My need for the drill is mostly for mixing mortar, grout and joint compound. I do this for a living and even though I go through tools, I've never found another brand that lasts as long as Makita, or works as hard. Without going into bashing all the other brands I've destroyed, there is a very good reason I keep going back to Makita. This drill is heavier then the previous ones I've owned. The chuck is different too. So far I've only done a few things with it, but I'm impressed with the improvements they have made!!!

perfect except i need the smaller light weight model
ugh i want to give this five stars it's a great drill. but the true 5 star drill is the smaller version of this model. the one with the hammer drill feature. that one is lightweight and the real MVP. i love makita products. durable and lightweight. i have broken a plastic chuck on the smaller one. and i know the metal chuck loosens itself on some other drill brands. (bc of the inertia from the heavier metal chuck housing coming to a dead stop.) this large model does not seem to have that problem. this one does NOT have the hammer drill feature sadly. but i missed that in comparing the drill models it's a great drill and is probably much stronger as advertised. but UGHH a tad too heavy. back to the lightweight model!!! lol

Excessive drill chuck runout/drill bit wobble
This "new" Makita drill model XFD03Z had excessive runout at the drill chuck right out of the factory box. I chucked up several different drill bits and the results were all the same, excessive and very noticeable wobble of the drill bits. What's worse, the factory box was heavily taped with clear packaging tape, indicating that the box had been previously opened. Sure enough, as I opened the box I noticed that there was no packaging inside the box, and the drill had simply been haphazardly shoved back into the box. It was very obvious to me that the drill I received had been previously opened and returned, probably for the very same reason that I returned the drill as well.

Awesome tool!
This tool automatically detects when the drill bit gets caught. So instead of snapping your wrist it just stops. Now it only does that when necessary. Amazing torque!
