Former EMT, currently in med school: This is absolute overkill for EMT (if they don't have steths on your rig, get something in the $15-30 range). This is perfectly fine for med school (it's what almost everyone in my class has).

Is this good for a new nursing student BSN?

Yes, although it is a bit heavy in the ears and it is overpriced compared to the sound quality you get. Not to say you don't get good sound quality, just that this isn't the best value buy.
