LIFE SAVER for white slipcovers!
We have the Ikea Ektorp sectional with White slipcovers in the sunroom at our airbnb/vrbo vacation rental. We have 2 covers so things can be swapped/cleaned as needed but since IKEA no longer makes 100% cotton slipcovers & the new ones can’t be bleached I wanted to protect our old version for as long as possible. Its sunroom location is directly off the pool area which means its heavily used and requires CONSTANT stain treatment & washing. This is life and we’re happy people enjoy are enjoying their vacation but it does get exhausting pre-treating & removing stains every 4-7 days. A lot of the issues seemed to come from wet bathing suits, suntan oils, and drink spills so I figured waterproofing might prevent wet suit color transfer & allow guests time to clean up spills before they soak in. So far this has done an AMAZING job at prolonging the time between washings!! I haven't noticed any change to the fabrics color, feel, or durability after using this religiously. A few of the cushions did develop some yellow areas that bleach hasn’t taken out but I don't know if that's a result of using this for over a year or if it was caused by a guest. —TIPS / STEPS— These are steps I’ve found work best for our use. 1. Transfer product into HEAVY DUTY spray bottle (such as those found at Home Depot) •Low-quality sprayers deteriorate after 1st use 2. Launder Items 1-2 days prior to treatment: •Treat stains w/ shout •Use as LITTLE un-scented detergent possible •2nd Wash: Just Borax & Vinegar •2 Rinse Cycles •Dryer *The manufacturers online info is very specific about the product only working if there’s NO residual product leftover in fabric. Yes...it's exhausting, but its made a HUGE difference in how well this works compared to just applying after normal wash/dry. 3. Lay down clean cotton drop-cloth in driveway & place clean items on top. 4. Put on gloves & a respirator/mask if sensitive to fumes. Also make sure no animals or children are nearby while spraying. *See bottom for further info about why this is important* 5. Spray 1st side thoroughly. •Paying special attention to the edges & piping since these areas collect dirt & color quickest. 6. Allow items to dry in sun for remaineder of the afternoon 7. After they’ve fully dried I place them in a sterile bag & put it in the garage overnight. 8. The next morning I Repeat steps 3-6 for the opposite side. •It’s entirely possible to do both sides in a single day...but I’ve found the chemical off-gassing lingers FAR LESS TIME if each side is sprayed & allowed to sun-bake for at least 5 hours before treating the opposite side. **GLOVES, MASK & NO ANIMAL / CHILDREN** Yes, there’s a very strong chemical smell that lasts 8+ hours. This is due to the ‘odorless mineral spirits’ content which is used as a carrier to help the waterproofing to penetrate into the fabric fibers. However unlike the name implies, OMS is far from odorless. So, PLEASE BE SURE to use this: •Outdoors in a well ventilated area •Away from all Animals & Children •Plenty of daylight time to allow for the mineral spirits to evaporate/off-gas. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ For the sunroom we also use a Dash & Albert indoor/outdoor rug on top of the large jute rug, this has been a lifesaver and worth its weight in gold when trying to keep a rental spotless! It allows spills to be easily cleaned or even bleached out when necessary. We’ve spot treated between guests & removed to fully bleach during spring cleaning...both options are quick and easy with any stains coming right up. *Since posting the original review above I’ve also started using this on the rentals drop-cloth cabana style curtains on the outdoor pergola. Although we don’t see a lot of rainfall here in San Diego....the overnight condensation and random rainstorms meant they would only last 4-5 months before mildew & mold could no longer be bleached out and they needed replaced. After putting 4 new ones up I sprayed front/back to see if it might slow mildew. It worked well initially but after about 2 months it seemed to accelerate the issue since the new curtains were heavily spotted with mildew while the old bleached ones weren’t. This may be due to my quick spray rather than following the guidelines I use for the slipcovers. The drop cloths are heavily bleached before making the curtains so this residue + treatment might have made a bad combo. I plan to try again while following the slipcover steps to see if it works better, will update my review if so.

Amazing!!!
Stuff is truly amazing. Use the paint roller method!!!!

Works fine, short effective lifespan
Seems to waterproof stuff ok, but does not last long, Has to be re-applied every couple months if item (like a motorcycle tool bag) is out in the weather. To be expected I suppose, but gets costly on a $25 tool bag!

Wow, this stuff works. We sprayed the whole gallon on our boat canopy and not one drop of rain came into the helm- dry as a bone. I plan on spraying yearly or as needed. You pay a little more for this product but it works. We bought a gallon garden sprayer and it worked like a charm.

Boat Cover Sheds Water Like New After One Treatment, No More Puddling on Top
Our boat cover had gotten to the point where rain just sat in puddles across the top instead of running off, worried it was slowly soaking through and encouraging mildew underneath during storage. Grabbed the gallon size specifically to treat the whole cover since it's a big piece of fabric and I didn't want to run out halfway through. Sprayed it on while the cover was laid out flat and fully dry, made sure to get even coverage across the whole surface including the seams where water tends to sit longest. Let it cure overnight before covering the boat back up like the instructions suggested. First real rain after treating it made the difference obvious, water beads right up and rolls off the sides instead of pooling on top waiting to soak in. No more coming out to check on standing water after a storm, which was my main worry with our old faded treatment. Cover still feels normal, not stiff or crunchy like I was a little worried a fabric treatment might leave it, folds and stores the same as before. Only complaint is you really do need calm, dry weather to apply it properly, had to wait a few days for the right window rather then just doing it whenever I had free time. Great fix for a cover that was starting to soak through instead of shedding water like it should. Applys easy but there is definitly some odor so do it in the wind if you can. Not sure its safe to huff in.

High Tech Fabric Guard 30674 Works Great on My Cloth Convertible Top !!!
This product (High Tech Fabric Guard 30674) works great - 100% of the water now beads up and my cloth top looks better than new !!! My Situation: The very first time my brand new, light beige cloth convertible top got wet I realized it came from the car dealer and/or factory either untreated and/or seriously under treated because water just soaked right into the cloth as evidenced by the darker cloth color when wet. End Result: After applying two coats of this product 100% of the water beaded-up and rolled right off the top. Nothing soaked in at all - zero wet spots on the cloth top. (Since the top is a light beige color any wet spots would show up slightly darker in color.) Any water that didn't roll off the top was absorbed using The Absorber 51149 sponge-cloth available on Amazon or at WalMart. Process: 1) I gently cleaned my cloth convertible top using 303 Fabric Top Cleaner (303-30550). To do this I first rinsed the top with fresh water, then sprayed the cleaner on & gently scrubbed using a very soft brush (I used Star Brite Soft Yellow Wash Brush 040013 available on Amazon). A stiffer brush or too vigorous scrubbing could damage the fabric, scuffing the threads and creating a fuzzy look to the fabric. I cleaned the top in slightly overlapping areas about 18” x 18”. 2) I rinsed the top and allowed it to dry thoroughly. 3) Using a 2" paint brush and small container of 303 High Tech Fabric Guard 30674, I applied the Fabric Guard brushing it on in a manner similar to painting. By overlapping slightly I made certain I applied the product to every square inch of the top. 4) I allowed the top to dry several hours and applied a second coat of Fabric Guard. Notes: 1) When applying the clear Fabric Guard liquid with a 2" paint brush it will start to have a slightly white/foamy appearance - this will go away completely and the product will dry clear. 2) After each application I noticed a VERY slight, very fine clear crystalline residue on my cloth top. You had to look very closely to see it - it had just a little bit of sparkle to it in the sunlight. This brushed off quickly and easily & probably would have blown off the first time I drove the car. 3) Some reviewers seem to have issues relating to getting the product on the car itself saying it was hard to remove. I didn’t have this problem. The few times that I over-brushed or got small drops Fabric Guard on the car itself I simply gently wiped it with a soft paper towel and it didn't damage anything or leave any residual coating. It seemed to wipe off 100% with a soft paper towel. 4) READ THE LABEL !!! The first paragraph covers some surfaces that you CANNOT use this product on without causing damage. These include rubber, vinyl, clear vinyl, plastics, etc. Since the product's Material Safety Data Sheet lists the contents as Petroleum Distillates, just a wild guess but prolonged contact with this product may have a solvent effect on materials such as vinyl or plastic. 5) I wouldn't purchase 303 Fabric Cleaner again – I think a bucket of hot water with a scant squirt of Dawn dish detergent would do just as good of a job. Of course, you will need to completely rinse the top and allow it dry thoroughly before applying 303 Fabric Guard. 6) I have no idea how long my cloth top will remain water repellant after applying Fabric Guard. I plan on doing this process every 6 to 8 months or sooner if I notice any water being absorbed by the cloth top.

Some product batches are defective (see last bullet on product description)
UPDATE: 303 has followed up (within 48-72 hours of contacting them) suggesting an emulsifier soap like Dawn Powerwash to better remove the discoloration. They also provided information on requesting a refund and replacement which will be needed after removing the bad batch which was appreciated. Disappointing to have the issue but solid customer service from 303/Gold Eagle. ORIGINAL: 303 Fabric Guard seems great at waterproofing but several batches are apparently defective (see the last bullet on the Amazon review) and has left an unsightly and irremovable blotchy white residue all over my new hot tub cover despite following the instructions carefully. Even worse, the company and Amazon (who fulfilled the order) seem to be aware of the "formula issue" but still sent the bottle. After searching the internet for help, I was led back to the description where I saw the warning of the bad batches (obviously Amazon should go through their inventory and discard the defective bottles or at least send them with a note to check the batch number. Insane a small bullet on the product description would be considered sufficient). Calling 303 was no help, only an unmonitored Voicemail box (call since returned see update above). I finally got through to Amazon customer service. But it was a nightmare - unhelpful automated agents, representatives with inoperable computers and the inability to transfer me requiring me to call back and go through the whole thing again. Just an extremely lengthy hour plus runaround. They eventually issued a refund for the product cost, but made no offer to compensate me for the ruined (several hundred dollar) cover or even a suggestion as to how to remediate the damage which does not wash off with soap and brushing. Between the faulty merchandise and terrible customer experience, I cannot recommend purchasing anything from 303 Products or through Amazon (there has since been some resolution, see update). Completely unacceptable quality control.

Keeps our boat looking good.
We apply this every year to the canvas cockpit enclosure of our boat. By sealing the fabric, we keep the cockpit dry, but also slow down the development of mold and stains on the canvas.
