Recommended, an enjoyable board-game variation on a point-and-click adventure game.
Great fun for 2 to 4 players, the game has interesting art and mechanics and took us about 3 hours to play through. This is a story-driven game, with some interesting choices and a few light riddles and puzzles, an engaging way to spend an evening with friends or family. There is a free helper app that can read the game text for you like an audiobook, and will also teach you the game, ideal for first time players. This specific scenario is set in a medieval fantasy world, you start off trapped in a dungeon that you must escape. You progress through 3 chapters, each with clearly defined goals, and make choices and solve puzzles as you go. There are several possible endings, depending on how well you did and some of your choices.

A whole day’s adventure game fun!
We love escape rooms so were looking for something similar to keep us occupied during Lockdown. This game kept us (2 adults and a 13 year old) entertained for literally the whole day! Simple to get started and loved having the app which provided a spoken description of each step (much better than reading everything!). It was fairly simple to work out how to combine objects to solve tasks- the tricky thing was locating all the objects, as they are in lots of different rooms. We found keeping detailed notes of the objects and characters we met really helped! Our top tip is to make sure you listen to ALL the information, as we initially missed something in our hurry to combine every object so had to go back and listen to everything again! So take your time and analyse everything in every room carefully. You could probably play this game again once or twice as there are alternative routes to success- Eg: choosing different characters to help you or a different path to follow. Also, it would be quite good fun to try to beat your first score or best time. It would be a good memory test!

Fun, but not a lot of replay value
Quite a clever little game, well packaged and manufactured. It has 3 chapters, each taking about 90 minutes. I can't really go into too much detail about the story other than to say your goal is to escape a dungeon. There's lots of puzzles to solve and loot to collect along the way. The game mechanics are quite well thought out (but I found the ending a bit confusing). There's also a free helper app to read out all the descriptions if you don't want to. However, once you've played through it the first time you've seen almost all that the game has to offer. There are a few points where you can choose to do one thing or another and I did miss an opportunity to figure out a puzzle before I was blocked from going back, but I think I saw 95% of what the game had to offer in one sitting. I wouldn't want to play it again just for those few alternate choices. Having played it solo, playing with friends after would put me at a massive advantage as to knowing how things will play out. Also, I would avoid playing all 3 chapters in one sitting as it outstayed it's welcome a little bit and had me using the help option a bit more than I probably should have toward the end, but that's not really the fault of the game, rather mine. I passed it on to my niece, who isn't really a board game sort of person, but she and her other half said they really enjoyed it. So, a good game, but bear in mind it's probably a one-and-done.

A Great Adventure Book
The game looks brilliant. My grandson will love it when I give it to him on Xmas day.

Infuriating, but brilliant!!
We love these games! Perfect for lockdown and to use up a good few hours! I love the fact you have to work together to solve the puzzles, and the way the story plays out is brilliant. Prepare for a few hair pulling moments where you just can't figure out what goes with what, and then the lightbulb moments where it all becomes clear. As a tip, definately download the app. Its not essential, but we found it really helped bring out the story! I've only knocked off a star as there isn't much replay value, but perhaps in 2024 when we're still in lockdown I'll dig it out again!

Lovely game, adored across all ages
We all loved this game. It has the flavor of text based adventures but it has nice artwork and a lovely mix of decision making with puzzle solving at different levels. We sat down with the intention of completing one chapter a day and we were hooked; so we all decided to complete the three chapters in one sitting! Played 4 players, including a 5 year old and a teenager: all loved it and we are looking forward to playing it again, this time choosing some of the alternative paths in the story. Highly recommended: please make more titles in this series!

Escape room in card game form
Arrived in time for my partners birthday, he's a board/card game addict and I love escape rooms so it's a perfect mix of the two. Enjoyed it first time round and can't wait to play with others.

Great fun for all the family
Having made our way through the kosmos exit games we decided to give this a go. Really enjoyed it. Several hours went buy quickly, lots of twists and turns. And quite a simple idea done really well. I reccomend downloading the app to do the reading parts as was easier than flipping back and forth in the adventure book and adds to the atmosphere. Also reccomend a large table. We kept having to move things around to fit it all on the table Have ordered the other one too and put it away. Possibly to replay in a year when we have forgotten it all

The 'Ole Point-in-Click Video Game in Board Game Form
Sierra was my favorite game studio back when I was a kid. I loved King's Quest, Space Quest, and all of the other quests. Heck, I even liked Freddy Pharkas. If you want that feeling while playing a board game, this is it. I had indeed heard it was like the 'ole point-and-click adventures of yesteryear, but was skeptical. It really is! Interact with your environment to find this, combine it with that, and make something different. Find clues, solve puzzles, and move the story along without dying. Though, in this particular game system, there is no death. Health in this game acts more as part of the scoring method. The more health you have, the more points you'll have at endgame, thus a better final score (and possible different endings). The game also has contingencies if you should lose too much health during gameplay so that there is no player elimination. All players who start the game will end the game. This cooperative game can be played solo or with up to four players. I played with two of my sons (11 and 9) and we all had a blast. We were all invested in the story and all helped out. As the most experienced with these types of games, I did most of the heavy lifting as far as the puzzles. But, my oldest son did figure out a crucial puzzle before I did and it was great to see his excitement when he turned out to be correct. It's not complex. I'd give it two of five on the complexity scale. What you get in the box basically amounts to four meeples, an adventure deck of cards, a stack of room cards, and an adventure book which will have all the story contents in it. It's a small package, but there's a lot of fun packed in there. The game is divided into three chapters, and can be saved easily between them. I'd say there's at least an hour per chapter. The first chapter took us longer, but once we got used to the system the next two chapters went by much quicker. There is also a hint system in place if you get stuck. We did not use the adventure book. We used the Kosmos Helper App, which had voice over for all the entries. I feel that added a bit of fun theatrics to the game experience. Keep in mind, this is pretty much a one-time playthrough. Once you know the puzzles and how the story unfolds there's really nothing left. Technically, you could play it again and make a few different decisions, and finish with a different ending. There are at least three different endings as far I can tell. I just don't feel that enough will be different to warrant the time spent. Note that there is nothing destroyed during gameplay like in other similar games, so you can re-package and give to a friend. Overall, I think The Dungeon is great! If you want a comparable experience to escape room games, but with more adventure and story, then this is for you. If you want an experience almost exactly like those old (and new) point-and-click video games, then this game is really for you. You won't be disappointed. It's great for families. The box recommends ages 12 and up, but my kids are younger and I didn't find anything objectionable in the game's content. That age range is probably more for puzzle-solving ability, which I can agree with. We played with three players, but I can also see this as an enjoyable solo game. I can not yet compare it to the other title in this line, Monochrome Inc. as I have not played it yet. I will definitely pick it up and update my review with a comparison when I finish. There is also a third one coming out soon called The Volcanic Island.

Going to use the app next time!
Bought this for a weekend visit to my friend's cottage (after isolating for 2 weeks). She's pretty competitive, so it's best to find games that are cooperative in nature, and this fit the bill nicely. We broke it out after dinner one night, and at first it seemed like a lot to figure out in terms of how to play, but it really didn't take long before we were exploring rooms and finding things. I didn't time it, but there are three chapters, and each one took at least an hour. We ended up doing this over two nights. We enjoyed taking turns reading from the book, we read each other's outcomes. The game is for 1-4 players, and I'm sure it would be a fun family game. There is definitely more than one outcome, we certainly didn't use all the cards, so you can get at least two full games out of it, and then pass it along, since you don't need to ruin anything with this series. I know we made a couple of 'mistakes' that I'll do differently next time, but that's what's fun about it. It's pretty nearly impossible to die, and I don't think you can actually lose, either, so that makes it especially good for families! My only issue was around looking up the numbers in the book. You either look up a 4, 5 or 6 digit number, and we made the mistake more than once of looking for a 4-digit among the 5-digits or vice versa. Not a huge deal, but we almost didn't even realize it a couple of times, and could have gone on thinking that option wasn't in the book when it actually was. Second problem with using the book is, as time went on, it got easier to accidentally cheat, because you would be looking for a specific number, and if it's not there, you'd see the numbers before and after it (you can't help it), but sometimes that gave you the answer. So next time I'm going to try using the app instead.

Buena forma de pasar el tiempo
Me ha encantado. Es súper inmersivo (supongo que también depende de las habilidades del narrador). Una excelente forma de pasar tiempo con quién quieres :)

enjoyed by both children and light game enthusiast adults
My daughter and I played this when she was about 5 years old. We took plenty of breaks, playing for an hour or two at a time, lasting a total of a few weeks over a Summer Break. We probably didn’t play by the rules. I did the reading obviously, and then together we made ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ type choices as the card map unfolded before our eyes. I cherish the time we spent that Summer playing the Adventure Games: The Dungeon. The content for this game is OK for a young child, but it’s probably best for the adult to read first and adjust accordingly. I’m pretty sure we both liked the game because it was narrative heavy. I’m sorry to say we tried another Adventure Games scenario, but had to stop mid game because the content goes against my religious convictions (ex: talking to a dead relative).
