A Tiny Titan of a Shovel - Worth Every Penny
I purchased this to replace one of the small collapsible plastic shovels, which broke some time ago. It is so small and light, it sat in my trunk all winter, without being noticed, until I needed to use it today. After parking along the curb, in a slushy, snowy pile, my car got stuck. I took out the shovel and muttered to myself "I wish I had brought a bigger shovel." Anyways, the shovel easily extended to its full length, which is much shorter than a full size show shovel. The blade of the shovel is also much smaller. However, unlike the plastic ones, this is made completely of aluminum. So, once it was extended, it felt very solid and sturdy in my hands, despite being very lightweight. The sturdy shovel made short work of the slushy mess, and the small size of the blade was a nice asset, since it allowed me to maneuver the shovel neatly around my car's tires, and to nimbly scoop out the slush mound underneath my car, without touching my car's underside or the tires. The blade itself was good enough so I could dig down to the pavement. After about 10 minutes, my car was free, and easily left the pile of slush. The short size of the shovel did mean I had to stoop a bit more, but this is the perfect tool to get cars out of sticky winter situations. And, its small size means it can live in the trunk all winter. I recommend this shovel for anyone who drives anywhere where it can snow at least part of the year. The sturdiness is well worth the upgrade from the typical plastic portable car shovels.

Lightweight, Durable Emergency Shovel. GREAT FOR KIDS!
I purchased a AAA Aluminum Sport Utility Shovel one year ago to keep in my car during the winter season in upstate NY. I was so impressed with the quality of that shovel and the reasonable price that I purchased a second shovel when we replaced our second family vehicle this month. Pros: -Aluminum construction with detachable handle makes for a lightweight, compact shovel that is perfect for the car trunk. Metal build is vastly superior to plastic when trying to clear mixed snow and ice, and wet snow. -Handle has two positions. Fully extended, the shovel is long enough to use for spot driveway clearing duty. In the compact position, the shovel is easy to handle around care tires and under a vehicle caught in a drift. -PERFECT FOR KIDS. I didn't anticipate this feature when I bought it for emergency use, but when my two year old wanted to shovel the driveway with daddy last winter, I gave him the AAA Sport Utility Shovel with the handle in the compact position and he loved it. It's sufficiently lightweight for a toddler to have some serious fun. -Value. This shovel offers great piece of mind and versatility for less than $20. Cons: -Absolutely none. Verdict: Lightweight, durable, perfect for emergency use and great for kids. I have one in both of our vehicles now, and I would highly recommend to anyone living in a predictably snowy region.

Great emergency shovel
I bought this shovel for snowmobiling and I love it. It is extremely lightweight and breaks down to a size that easily fits into any small backpack. It is nice and rugged for a collapsible shovel of this type. My criticism would be that the attention to detail in construction is lacking on this product. If you sight down the shovel you notice the handle is at quite an odd angle when compared to the shovel blade(almost as though the thing had been twisted during manufacturing) and it gives the shovel an awkward feeling. Also, the cool blue finish had plenty of dings and scratches when I received the shovel.

Just what I wanted (and needed)
I bought this for bike or walking trips around the neighborhood, mainly to clear paths blocked by plowed snow; I wanted something that would fit in a backpack. It does, and I have used it for that, but I've discovered it's also good for clearing small spaces, like around the fire hydrant in front of the house. It fits even in my child-size backpack that I use just for walking (I have a bigger backpack for shopping trips on the bike) and it's not heavy. And the size keeps me from trying to lift too much of this heavy Eastern snow so it's better for my back. It comes in two pieces, shovel and the other part, but you can also separate the other part into another two for a total of three pieces if you really need to save space. The length of the tube is slightly adjustable with push buttons and here's a TIP to deal with those: Push them in and then quickly turn them sideways. That will keep the buttons depressed while you move the pieces to the hole you want them in. Then you just turn the piece sideways until you see the buttons through the hole; once they're in position they'll pop into place. I had a bit of trouble getting them adjusted at first until I discovered this so I thought I'd save people some time by passing that along. The tip is getting a bit worn; I can see a bit of metal now. That's probably my fault for trying to shovel ice but the shovel seems so sturdy that I think it'll be fine (as long as I stop trying to shovel ice).

No brainer purchase! Great product!
Lightweight, sturdy, compact, and even cool looking! Great little shovel that's strong enough to break through compacted snow and ice. I ordered this one to try it out and after use, I've ordered another. Weight is about the same as a plastic shovel but with the aluminum build, it'll last. The only negatives I can see, which were not enough to knock it down a star, are the aluminum and the price. $20 is a little high for a shovel that sits in the trunk. However, would you pay $20 to know that you will be able to get out of a pinch during a snowstorm? I would! So what's wrong with the aluminum? Answer: not much, but when you're on asphalt and you continuously scrap the bottom while breaking through ice, the aluminum slowly wears away. Even after one use, it seemed to develop a jagged sharp edge. Now, this will only add to the breakthrough capability, but I just wanted to mention it as after every use, it may continue to wear down. Regardless, the plastic shovel I was using rarely cut well enough to even reach the road and when it did, it broke down the shovel way quicker than this aluminum shovel that is being sold here. So as you can see, my negatives were spun into positives because let's remember what we are buying here... A shovel you keep in your car. Don't expect this thing to change your life, but rest assured you have a fighting chance of getting unstuck in a snowstorm on your way home from work. That's all I needed to know before I ordered another.

I'm very pleased with these shovels.
I've had these shovels in my Amazon cart for a couple months. During that time they came down in price. Christmas of 2016 I put together winter survival kits for my adult kids, sister and a few other relatives to keep in their car. Here in ND and MN being prepared is an absolute must! This year I decided to give good quality shovels to be added to their kits. I'm so glad I ordered this shovel. It is very lightweight, STURDY, and can be separated into 3 pieces for easier storage. The mechanism (little silver buttons that fit into holes) that allows the 3 pieces to fit together works really well. It would have been nice if the shovel could be taken apart, then have the pieces somehow hook together for easier storage.....or come with a storage bag, but it was not a deal breaker for me. There are 4 holes, 1 at each corner of the shovel, that I have no idea what the purpose of those holes is. If anyone else knows, please tell me. I was fortunate enough to get these when they were marked down to about $14. Color is really nice too.

Great little shovel
Great little shovel, just what I was looking for in a winter snow shovel for the car. The handle collapses down and allows me to store this under the seat out of the way. We drive to the ski area every weekend and I've always wanted something to help dig out from a big storm. In one lot several cars were buried and abandoned after an 15 inch dump. One girl was trying to use her skis to remove the snow, thats when I decided it was time to buy a shovel. I like the idea of being able to shovel myself out, when away from home and no access to the big shovels. I looked up several web site reviews and this seemed to be the best for my needs. You can also use it for winter camping since it is light and small enough to be strapped to a pack. We've actually created cook areas in the snow by shoveling out trenches, creating a table top and bench seating. I've never tried to build an igloo but this would seem to fit the bill.

Shovel breaks down very nicely and smoothly and stores under the seat of my ...
Half a dozen snow storms later...Still going strong! If you beat this thing up hard, that is into ice and other obstructions/pavement it will begin to show signs of wear and tear. However, if you use it as intended for SNOW and don't try to leverage anything heavy with it or bust up ice dams it will perform season after season. This shovel breaks down very nicely and smoothly and stores under the seat of my car neatly. The blue color look sharp and attractive and all of my friends want one now! I bought 2 of these: 1 for my vehicle and 1 for my fiance's. Positive Update: We are getting slammed in Upstate NY (2/16/16) and I travel house to house for work in homecare Physical Therapy...Without this shovel I would not have made it out of several of the driveways of my patients this morning. (We're talking 18-20" with drifts and snow plows adding to that amount). I was very thankful I had a quick way to address the insanity! If you are ever stranded roadside thigh-deep in snow and would like to stay in your car to stay warm while waiting for help you'd better consider that if your muffler(s) get covered and plugged with snow it's NO BUENO...Wouldn't it be nice to have a sound way to dig out those muffler pipes? Rather than becoming a statistic, invest in this safety measure...This shovel makes that process a lot easier and offers peace of mind at the very least that you have an exit strategy in some capacity. I still Highly recommend as it has been a life-saver this season!!! Safe travels out there!

Great Shovel, But Too Small for Me
The Lifeline 4017 Aluminum Sport Utility Shovel is a solid purchase with a 3-piece collapsible design, perfect for storing in your car. Itโs durable and practical, but unfortunately, it was too small for my needs. Still a great option for those looking for a compact snow shovel!
