I am in the process of repairing a UV Fly Trap that malfunctioned. Two MJE-13003 NPN transistors were damaged, and the resistors between the VDC and Base for each transistor were burnt to a crisp. Additionally, a DIAC was toasted. While I could have replaced the components with identical ones, I opted for parts with better specifications. I suspect the designers of my initial fly trap electronic ballast recognized these issues and subsequently redesigned the ballast. I used a similar tester, and it identified the components correctly. I recommend using a standard multimeter with diode testing capability for such repairs.

Not a transistor as defined
This Item is not recognized as NPN transistor, Markings on the item: E13009-2 , however, component tester recognizes this as a Thyristor. So, markings on the unit for transistor, inside - Thyristor....
