Worked great to call birds to the feeder.

These bird calls are awesome. I had one 30 years ago and lost it 25 years ago. I just bought another one and it sounds awesome. I've called in chickadees, swallows, owls, hawks, eagles, swans, zebras, lions, wildebeests, two giraffes, a polar bear, one anaconda and a yellow-bellied sap sucker. Make sure you dump a little of the pine rosin into the barrel and don't use too much pressure. A light touch is better.

I'm really impressed by how bird-like the sound is from this little piece of wood rubbing against metal. It's amazing how easy it is to use with no instruction. I'm not sure yet if it will fool the housefinches on my deck, but it did immediately drive my wife nuts, so that could be good or bad depending on your intended use. Also in case you're wondering, the little pill pictured with it isn't just to show the scale: it's full of powdered pine rosin, which the package instructs you to sprinkle on to restore its sound if it ever loses it. I had one of these bird calls when I was a kid and used it for years without any added rosin, so I'm not sure how necessary that is. But it's a nice touch. This one feels just as sturdy and well made as the one I had years ago.

Easy to use but the birds ignore us!

This is a great product, worked right out of the bag. I'm still tinkering and trying to figure it out but it's doing what it's suppose to do and that's to get the birds attention, I have some luck with mostly the society finches that is around my neighborhood. I haven't really tested it a park or a forest or anything like that but it was really fun playing around with it. It has a nice solid build that's really easy to hold in your hand and twist, it does take some time to get use to and figure how it works. It's a little bit hard to explain to other people how to use it though. My girlfriend tried it a few times with no luck and a few times with some pitch. It works fine for me though. The only minor/major complain that I have with this product is the rosin that it comes with. Don't get me wrong the rosin works great and it was so nice of Audubon to include it with it. But I just have the complain of it coming in the pill case, maybe it was just me and maybe the weather is just dry from where I'm at but I could not for the life of me open the pill case without pretty much throwing it away after because the pill case just fell apart and cracked as I try to open it. And yes i did try the gentle way.

Item arrived on time. Rosin capsule was stuck in the hole of the handle. Plastic capsule was very brittle and cracked, spreading rosin all around. The call seems to work fine now but I don't have any rosin left if the call needs it.

First of all: Do not make the birds angry! This is the same bird call offered up in the Audubon gift shop after the elementary school field trip. It brings all the birds to my yard. Cardinals, nuthatches, redwing blackbirds... I love them all. My crow friends do not like it, and they let me know. Bluejays also do not like it. LOL, that's fiiiine! Just do not use this indiscriminately, as it will anger/chase off some birds.
