Bonsaii 18-Sheet Cross-Cut 60-Min Run Heavy Duty Paper Shredder

If you have been using those $80 shredders, this thing will amaze you! It does one thing, and does it well. In a week, I have shredded three garden trash bags of paper, including over a dozen old cards. No jam or stopping from heat issues, yet! . I was using two old & cheap Fellowes shredders that had a 10 minute run with 60 minute rest rating. They would slow me down jamming and overheating. Then, one just failed and the other started sounding like the motor was giving out. . This Bonsaii has already done 3 times the shredding in less than half the time! I am about half way done and expect this shredder to keep going for years. . The 18 sheets warning is probably for #10 paper. I am shredding thicker stock, usually old bank statements and bills. I'd say about 10 of those sheets is the limit, but my old "8 page" units could only do about 5 of them. Pros: - It is relatively quiet. - It just keeps going. - It shreds two credit cards side-by-side. Cons: - The basket was broken just above the clear plastic window, making removal and insertion feel a bit flimsy. I went ahead and taped the break, because this thing is so much better than what I was using, and I wanted to get this shredding job done. I have started an email with Bonsaii to see if I can get a new basket. - Nothing else, really... Gripes: - I just bought this for $169.99, and 10 days later it has dropped to $142.79. Do I go to the trouble to return it and reorder it just to save $27.20 (~16%)? Maybe... I need to get this shredding done and this Bonsaii is doing it (:>) I would suggest this unit to any heavy shredder in the home and small office environment!

I have only used this once since receiving it yesterday, but I am so well pleased by its style and function, I had to add my review right away. I have a smaller version by the same brand/ company that shreds fewer pages and doesn't have wheels. It is okay, but noisier than I hoped and doubted it could manage the amount of shredding I need to tackle, semed a bit stressed after a short session of shredding and therefore I have only used it a few times. I decided to try this upgraded model. So far very pleased with my decision. The pages feed smoothly and quietly, more than any of the other shredders I have used (one my husband had that we gave away before we moved was not too noisy but was not a cross cut and it was a bit heavy and cumbersome) This is much lighter and the wheels area grat benefit. I love the pull out drawer and greater capacity it holds with the window to see as the the bin fills up. Plus I can open it to spred out the pile and push it down to keep the paper from blocking the blades and allow.it to hold more and more paper. It handled a full shopping bag of bills, documents, mail etc. in about 20 mins. Probably could have taken even less time, but I wasn't doing a full 18 pages each time. Love that I could do a variety of paper types and not have to unfold everything. If a small portion of a smaller paper didn't completely shreed it stopped and stayed where I could easily flip and feed again without jamming. There was no jamming, but I feel the reverse switch feature would handle if needed. And no smell of a motor being overly worked. This model makes this chore a breeze., almost fun even. Highly recommend so far, but I feel confident it will hold up.

It is always difficult to purchase a new shredder. I debated whether to spend alot of money and decided against it. This one I liked the reviews. Nothing is perfect. This is a good machine and hope it will last a while. My average length of shredders is around 3 years. It is not too noisy, does a descent job of shredding, basket is large enough for my usage. Have had no problem with feeding paper or thicker junk envelopes. Update this is a little workhorse, working great would buy again! Shows that you don't have to spend a lot of money! Another update as of Nov. 10, 2015: Just finished shredding 3 years worth of paperwork and this shredder IS the BEST. Didn't have one jam, it just kept going and going. It has an internal fan when it gets a little overheated which I found very helpful. I was putting through bank statements without having to split the statements in halves or thirds, just ran them through. Have to empty the basket quite often, but is well worth this little inconvenience! If you do not empty the basket on time shredded paper will collect on the cutters underneath. Save yourself some money and headaches, this is the one! Update, as of today Jan. 6, 2020 the switch failed and jammed. It was a real workhorse and will buy another one.

For years, I was spoiled on an industrial shredder at work like something from a Mad Max movie. One day, a psycho office admin "cleaned it up" (threw it away). So many tears. Ah well. Though not as obscenely muscular, this little shredder is a respectable / affordable home replacement. It handles the claimed number of sheets just fine, so it's pretty fast, and it seems quiet to me. I have not run it continuously for hours, in order to check for thermal shutdown, but so far it seems solid & durable. The bin is reasonably sized, and easy enough to access (if just a little plastic-y). Fitting in collection bags is slightly contrived: I tear a little hole in the bag to hook it (see pic), but that hardly seems a reason to skip this decent shredder. It doesn't take up a too much floor space. I like the switch options that include sensor shredding (only shreds upon sensing paper being fed); that works well. The window - to see when it fills up - is nice and large, for easy viewing. I haven't yet tried on plastic disk media (like data DVDs), credit cards, or door-to-door marketers, but I like that it's designed to handle them (well, two out of three). Yes, I would repeat buy / recommend it. (I also bought the suggested lubrication sheets to use periodically. Their recommended frequency of use is surprisingly low. So the trick will be remembering where I put the darn lube sheets, when they eventually become needed, ... oh, and remembering to use them at all.)

This machine is a BEAST. I call it the mini giant. I own 3 shredders and this one works circles around the others and it was cheaper. Not once had it overheated on me and I shred boxes of docs at a time. Just wish the bin was bigger, but the motor is super strong. Highly recommended.

Needed a Shredder that could help me shred 50 years of our 1040 tax returns and associated file document support as well and stock transaction confirmations going back 25 years. yes, that was all stored in a closet and I'm getting old and need that stuff gone. It took 4 days of 3 hours each day running those piles of docs through the shredder while parking out which of the docs I should keep.. I highly recommend this shredder and I'm so happy my old one died forcing me to get this new one. This one handles 18 pages at a time..it really does munch through the pages.. The basket holds plenty too.

I'd been limping along with a decades-old Fellows shredder until a month or so ago when I decided to do a major junk clean up around the house. My old shredder could not keep up with everything that required shredding and was starting to sound like a freight train, so I decided to try out this Bonsaii shredder. The first week I had it, I shredded about 10 pounds of junk mail, with no overheating. This baby worked like a charm, and was even relatively quiet about it. Now I use it daily to shred any junk mail I get. The shredder easily handles 18 pages at a time and slices the paper into nice, neat little pieces. It handles staples like they're not even there. Shredding credit cards and the like is a breeze. Unlike with my previous shredder, I do give this one a few drops of oil every other week, which I hope will keep it running a very long time. The only downside I can think of is not a big one: putting a bag in the shredder's bin does not always allow the bin to close properly and the shredder will not work if the bin seal is not just right. I've tried putting the paper collection bag in different positions, but I've yet to find a placement that consistently works. So I use the shredder without a bag and dump the bin into a recycling garbage bag when it gets full. All in all, I love my new shredder!

I have a lower end shredder that can handle doing one or two things at a time, for short periods of time (like credit card applications that come nearly every day in the mail), but also had a back-log of paperwork that I did not need any longer, but would take days in that shredder, and would undoubtedly cause it to get stuck and clogged. I was able to get through about half of it in less than an hour using this. I like that it has a self-contained bin that holds a good amount of shredded paper. It does come with one bag that you can to line the bin, but I found it is easier just to empty the bin into a bag when it is full. This is because if the bin is not pushed in place all the way, it will not shred. The power light will just blink when you turn it on, but it will not do anything until the bin is pushed all the way in, and when you put a bag inside it, it tends to cause the bin not to sit correctly. Plus, I found that as it got more full, the clippings would push the back of the bag down so you would get some in the bag and some between the bag and the bin, and it will cause a big mess trying to get the bag out. The instructions say that you can feed up to 18 sheets at a time into the shredder, but It did get stuck with a thicker envelope (which I do not think was as thick as 18 sheets of paper) causing me to put it in reverse (which worked just fine) to get it out. So, now I stick to about 3-4 sheets at a time and it has not got stuck since then. I also put a couple of old credit cards through it, and it handled them just fine. One nice feature is that it cross-cuts the paper and does not just spit out long strips which can sometimes stick together and leave information visible to anyone with the patience enough to go through it. So, it is nearly impossible to get anything useful from the shredded remains. And, it is a much more cost-efficient option than bringing a bunch of paper to a company that shreds in bulk. I definitely recommend this.

Early impressions of this are very good. Got one of these after becoming increasingly frustrated at most shredders that cut out after anywhere between 3 and 6 minutes of shredding, and then need 30 minutes 'cool down' period before they will work again. In practice, this means that if you are decluttering paperwork that you end up filling far more bags than can be shredded because they shredders keep cutting out. There are quite a few Fellows shredders on here that cost upwards of £200 that still only work for a few minutes before cutting out. So, while this did strike me as expensive for something I really consider to be in the same breath as an item of office stationery, it is nevertheless relatively good value. The main selling point for me was the 1 hour run period. I have run it for two 1 hour stints now, and it has worked as marketed so far. Keeps on chomping away. Not too loud. Convent clear panel at the front so you can see when it's getting full. Easy to empty. Plenty of sheets per pass, so no issues on that front either. So, while it was frustration that led me to get this, I have to say that I have been very happy with it, and that it does genuinely solve a real (first world!) problem of shredding continuously for a decent time without stopping. Did think about the D model which has slightly smaller shredding. But the drawbacks of that are that it does less sheets and also doesn't chomp on CDs or Credit Cards, so I suspect the motor isn't as powerful. Glad I went for this C model. The motor is plenty powerful. Does 18 sheets rather than 12. Also does CDs and Credit Cards. And honestly, the shredding seems plenty small enough to me. Unless you are shredding state secrets or NASA codes I think you will find this one more than adequate. Only had it a week, so not sure on longevity or customer service, because it has worked fine. But it looks sturdy enough and was well-packaged, so I remain quite hopeful that the 5 star rating will stay. Well done Bonsai!
