Walmart didn't want to sell me this headset. Thank goodness for Amazon!
I went to Walmart a couple of days ago to buy cat litter and milk. I walked through the electronics section and saw a Jawbone ICON, and decided on the spot that I could use one. It was on a locked hanger, so I looked around for a Walmart employee. There were none to be seen. I went walking, feeling very alone, and finally found someone at the counter where they print pictures. "I'll call someone to go over there and meet you," she said. I went back and waited, thought about eating the cookies I'd put in my basket (another impulse buy), waited some more, and still no one came. Finally I took out my phone, looked the thing up on Amazon, and discovered that it was $20 cheaper. I ordered it then and there and went on my way, still completely unmolested by helpful salespeople. I'll have to send Walmart a nice note. "Thank you so very much. The incompetence of your sales staff saved me $20, sending me to go shopping on Amazon while I was being ignored in your electronics department. Perhaps the sales staff were all gathered under the sign you have in the section where you sell notebooks and envelopes, the sign that says "Stationary," afraid that if they disobeyed and moved that they'd be fired. Wherever they were, they weren't in the electronics section. Please be sure to continue hiring from the left end of the bell curve. Kindest regards, Jim." The sound on the Jawbone is excellent, by the way, and it fits comfortably in my ear. And it weighs only 8 grams. I synched it quickly and effortlessly with my iPhone, checked the charge (it came about 80 percent charged), popped it in my ear, and asked my daughter to call me. "Can you hear me daddy?" "I hear you fine, and can you hear me?" "I hear you just fine." "Good. Now would you please go outside or to another room so we can see if we hear each other through this headset?" But by then she'd hung up. So I waited for someone to call me from further away. And soon I got a call from a colleague in Washington who was out walking her dogs. "Can you hear me," I asked. "Sure. Are you imitating phone ads?" "No, I'm trying out my new bluetooth headset. Is the sound clear?" "Yeaaaah Pico, stop that! Rosie, sit!" I heard two excited pit bulls pulling her in two directions, then heard her stop to chat with a neighbor who helped her settle them down, then we went back to discussing our schedule for the next few days. From my end the conversation was clear, and from hers it seemed to make no difference at all that I was on the headset. I've read that some people didn't get theirs in retail packaging. Mine came properly packaged, looking just like it did in Walmart. Others have problems with this and some Samsung Galaxy phones. There's no problem with the iPhone so far. The ICON sits comfortably and securely in my ear, and after a few minutes I don't notice it's there. The talk button is conveniently located and very easy to use, and the on/off switch is also easy to use. I really like this headset, and now I can walk around talking to myself and not be thought a lunatic.

Great Product
I purchased this headset about 2 weeks ago and so far I really like it. Some reviews mentioned trouble getting it to pair with their phone. I have not had any difficulties with that at all, in fact, as soon as I turn my headset on it automatically is detected by my iPhone4 (as long as the bluetooth is turned on) and is connected. I love that I can stream my music thru this headset. Whether it's iTunes or Pandora, the sound is good. I recently had to participate in a conference call using the headset and I was able to hear everyone on the call pretty well. Honestly it's hard to be able to hear everything on a conference call to begin with, so I was happy with that. I like that it fits right into my ear, but also has the over the ear hook thing. With my previous headset I was always fighting with the hook getting tangled in my glasses. :o) There are multiple pieces to fit into your ear which I think one of those will work for most people. I haven't had it fall out yet. :o) I would definitely recommend this headset. Well worth the money and it also charges up quickly which is great.

Decent bluetooth but has some problems
The only bluetooth set I have tried for comparison is the Plantronics Voyager Legend, just to give you some context because I would not be complaining about some things if I did not use the other headset of comparison. This fit is comfortable, secure, and you have the option of using the over the ear loop or not. The style is great and you don't look like a telemarketer when you wear it - this is a plus compared to the Plantronics Voyager Legend. People that I speak with say they can hear me just fine and that they cannot tell that I am using it. Reception is great from the phone. battery life is adequate. There are several things which are disappointing, in order of importance to me: 1. The sound is great in quiet areas. When I am in the car and I have to turn the volume up, the sound becomes really high pitched and it feels like someone is screaming in your ear, which is uncomfortable. So you are forced to turn it down but then it is difficult to hear. As a result, you are straining from the high pitched sound or straining to hear - not that pleasant. I have since seen other people complain about this on the internet. With the Plantronics Voyager Legend, I am able to turn up the sound without it screeching in your ear. 2. Integration with Samsung Galaxy S3 is not great compared to the Plantronics Voyager Legend. With the Legend, I don't have to think about anything - just pop it in my ear when I get a phone call and it answers automatically. Also, if i choose to just pick up the handset, the sound goes automatically to my phone. It automatically know where to send the signal. With the Icon HD, once it is paired with my phone, each time I pick up my phone I have to manually choose whether I want the sound to go the the earpiece or through the handset. Sort of annoying - it's an extra button you have to press all the time. The pairing is not as stable either and I have to frequently go to setting and pair the set again. 3. Charger uses a usb connection, which at first I thought was great but it attaches quite snugly and not easy to put in or detach with one hand - this is a problem in the car. The Plantronic Voyager Legend has a magnet style connection, which at first I did not like because it requires you to buy proprietary chargers, but works great to just pop on and off, even in the dark and even with one hand (the two pieces just find each other if you get them close). Overall, I think it's an ok product and I use it all the time but I think it could be a great product if they improved the speakers, the charger (because people use it in the car and should not have to fumble with two hands), and make the integration with phone more smooth and stable.

Great Deal for the price
I was a little reluctant to buy this as some people complained of used products sold as new or products with ear wax... Yuck! I spent the $2 extra to buy from Amazon, not a reseller and had no issues. I bought two of these. One for my wife and one for myself. Both are awesome. I find i use it a lot to listen to music, even though the quality (HD??) is marginally better than my phone speaker, it's just super easy and convenient. We both have Android Galaxy S2 Skyrockets and Nexus 7 tabs and these little headsets link to both devices flawlessly and don't seem to interfere with each other as we both use our headsets at the same time. These little babies recharge extremely fast. In 20-40 minutes, it can recharge up to 80% of its battery life, plus it uses the standard micro USB, so every charger I have works fine with it (no proprietary chargers for the landfills). The standard ear piece works fine. It also received some complaints, but it's so much better than the first gen Jawbone. It's extremely comfy and stays put once in your ear. My wife changed her ear piece to one of the other sizes included in the box and hers fits great as well. Provided you're not a freak of nature or a whiny baby, you should have no issues with these ear pieces. For the $57 paid, it's nearly the same as the new Jawbone Icon and about 1/2 the price. The two I bought cost almost the same as one icon. What a deal!

Disappointed
I work in the field and thus I have had challenges finding a durable headset. Before jawbone I had only used blueant headsets which for me only last about a year. However this headset has not even been through any real use yet. After the first month the outgoing voice quality went bad. No one can understand me now. The audio sink works great tho, it seems the bluetooth works fine, just the mic went bad. Only having one button is annoying. I would have liked seperate volume buttons. Range is good and works well at syncing with two phones. I have to use the earhook since I do alot of moving around, and this earhook is very very very cheap and of poor quality. Not adjustable and very useless, so I purchased aftermarket hooks which were a little better but not by much. Unless you plan on just popping this into your ear without the hook, I wouldnt recommend it. The app feature is also stupid and it doesnt work well in my opinion. This headset seems to go into a sleep mode after a while and no audio notifications or music will play unless I raise and lower the volume. Seems like a software issue with the headset since I have not read about such a feature. Very disappointed and I wish I had stayed with blueant. The fact that it failed so fast upset me enough to where I dont even want to go through the RMA process and probably paying shipping to have it replaced. I want Jawbone to smile and be happy at the fact that they took my money and gave me a horrible product.

Finally found a great bluetooth headset!
I've been through quite a few headsets, and could never find one that I was a satisfied with...until now. I need four things with a headset, and this is the first one that has met all four, which includes several much higher costing headsets: 1. High volume: I stream music and podcasts all day long, both at work and on the weekends. One of the main issues I had with other headsets is the volume was just not loud enough, so I would constantly need to rewind my talk radio shows. 2. Streaming media play/pause: I listed to music and talk radio all day at work, so I need to be able to play/pause the stream quickly if somebody starts talking to me, rather than having to pull out my phone and pause the media. 3. Great call quality: Just about every other headset I've had people have complained about not being able to hear me well, but this one sounds great. 4. All day comfort: It's fit great, not loose like many headset, and is very light. There are many different earbud options, along with an optional ear hook. Personally, my perfect fit was with the earbud that came with the unit, coupled with the optional ear hook. I wear this thing all day, every day, and it is never uncomfortable. Do yourself a favor and get this headset!

[Updated 14JUL2012] Pleasant, Simple, more usable upgrade from Jawbone 2, and BlueAnt Z9i
I bought this for my Droid Bionic. I recently dropped my Jawbone2 (J2) in the driveway, and subsequently ran it over with my car. I still have the BlueAnt Z9i. I didn't care for the J2's software/interface, but it did the job. The 2 hidden buttons were a bit annoying. This ICON HD is just right. It only has a couple functions, which I like. It has an actual power switch (thank goodness), versus the hold area for 3-6 seconds on the J2. The ICON HD is much easier to get into pairing mode than the J2 and the Z9i. I also like that ICON HD has fewer issues connecting to my phone. It just connects, as long as I have BlueTooth (BT) enabled. My J2 needed me to first enable the phone BT, then power on the J2. The other way around was less reliable, when I needed it. The J2 (V2.0) noise cancellation was very good. The ICON HD noise cancellation (v2.5?)appears to be just as usable. I used to drive a very noisy Honda Civic, but recently upgraded to a new Honda Accord, so the ambient noise is much reduced. I cannot comment on the ICON HD versus my previous noisier vehicle. The BlueAnt Z9i I have is just not a good headset for newer phones. Its volume cannot be controlled by the phone, and it isn't loud enough. The ICON is maybe slightly louder than the J2, and significantly better than the Z9i. The Z9i also suffered from too many buttons. It was quite irritating to figure out. The ICON HD has one button during operations, and it keeps it simple. It depends on the phone for volume adjustments. It doesn't have any complicated functionality, nor do you have to memorize anything special software patterns of button pushing. The phone has all the control, and does the work. The ICON can do some stuff like bounce between calls, and answer them, but you don't have to use it at all. The phone is much easier to navigate. It can switch between two calls, but I prefer to do it on my phone, to make sure I know who I'm talking to. My only negative, I haven't found one of the three included looped inside the ear earbuds that fits me. I like the idea, but they need one more in between size, slightly smaller than the large size for me. Included in the box are four disc only style buds to pick from, so you will find an earbud configuration that will work for you. I wasn't able to fit the looped style buds that I wanted to try, but the other options do work just as well. They are a little easier to slip into the ear. Overall, +Very usable phone audio (I don't need the music), +Improved hardware layout +Reliable pairing +Decent Noise Cancellation +Many choices of ear buds (7 + over ear hoop) +Enters pairing mode easily -(no longer an issue, see update below)limited choice of the looped earbud sizes, for me. [Updated 30NOV11] I've had it for over a month now. I stand by everything I stated above. The Bluetooth is very reliable when attempting to connect during a call in progress. I am so happy with it, I bought a second one for wife, knowing she will find it much more user friendly than the last three she has struggled with. I avoided the top of the line Jawbone Era, as it has too many features, and it just seemed to make it way more complicated than necessary. ShakeShake for pairing, and TapTap for answering calls, seriously? No thanks, I'll just let my phone do the work, the way I already know how! Bluetooth headset manufacturers ought to focus on four features: On/Off, Bluetooth pairing reliability, low battery, and audio quality in and out, including noise filtering. Quit making it harder than it needs to be. Let the phone do the heavy lifting of phone control. It took me a while, but I stuck with the largest loop earbud, I not have it working just fine. It fits well, and holds very steady. I never tried the over the ear loop. The trick for me was sliding it forward in my ear, then pushing the loop in under my inner ear lobe. It took me a while to get proficient with it. Looking back, I guess I was trying to get it under my inner ear lobe first. I'm not really sure what I was doing, but it makes sense now. I customized two features on the headset. I changed the voice, via the Jawbone software, and I added a primary phone number to dial. I press and hold the headset button, and it dials that number. I don't use the feature much at all, but a couple times it has been handy. The different voice, if fine too. I enjoy the attitude of the new voice. It makes it just a little more interesting. [Updated 11JAN12] (w/ Android phones) If you have it connected when you start playing music, it plays the audio, unless I have the headphone jack occupied. I didn't expect that, but it works okay. I don't really count on the tiny speaker to do the job. I have only charged it three times in three months. I have only had it hiccup once, when pairing while a call is in progress. It eventually worked, but not right a way. Still very happy. Wife is using it, with no complaints so far. It has been two weeks... She liked the "simple to use" selling points. [Updated 2APR12] People still seem to like this review, so here's another update. Works will with iPhone 4. Only hiccups so far are when switching over to the audio for music playback when it is already playing. I think it is the Android OS's problem, not the Jawbone. Wife lost hers, and got upset. She was really liking it. I got another one, all is good. Previously she would just switch to the wired headset, without much complaining, so I think we have a winner! People can tell when I'm on the headset versus playing a phone call through the stereo. I think the Droid Bionic is really good at noise cancellation too. I started using it occasionally for music audio more. It works pretty good. It starts falling out when the ear gets sweaty, about 20 minutes later. It is manageable. It might work better with the ear loop, but I don't care enough to try. [Updated 14JUL12] I thought it was worth noting, it went through the clothes washer in the pocket of a pair of jeans this week. Found it when transferring the clothes to the Dryer. Dropped it in a bag of rice and put it out in the sun for four days. Charged it up, and it is still working perfectly, no issues with the speaker, no problems at all. Another annoyance, I have a Droid, and wife has an iPhone. On a recent road trip I was using it as a audio playback device for a podcast. Her phone was paired with it, as well as mine. Every time I started playing something, it would kick over and connect to the iPhone Bluetooth. I don't understand why, it is probably just how Bluetooth works, but it is worth sharing. [Updated 6JUN13] My ICON that went through the wash was mis-placed. It was still working the last time I used it. I'm now on my last one, from the wife. She stopped using it in favor of the iPhone headset that came with her phone. I'm using the medium size loop earbud. It turns out to be the best fit for me. Glad I never tossed them. [Updated 3OCT13] My power switch stopped working. I'm not certain why. I contacted Jawbone to see if they can help. The headset still accepts charging, but multiple cycles of the power switch will not turn it on. Still digging how simple this thing is. That should be its #1 selling point. I look forward to using it again.

Great noise canceling, and much improved over Jawbone 2
About a month ago, my old Jawbone 2 Bluetooth headset finally died. Over the last month or so I have tried four different headsets until I finally found one that met all of my needs. I am including my brief opinions about each of them for comparison, and to hopefully help some of you narrow your selection down, if you are considering any of these. MOTOROLA H720 PROS: Easy to use, flip to talk makes answering calls easy. Comfortable. CONS: Floppy feel. Noise canceling does not work very well. MOTOROLA HX550 PROS: Flip to talk makes answering calls relatively easy. Its Comfortable. Noise canceling works very well while on calls. CONS: Noise canceling does not work for voice commands...so forget about using Siri while driving. The compact nature of this headset makes it more difficult to flip open than the H720. PLANTRONICS M165 PROS: It looks good. Deep sleep mode means you don't need to turn it on and off every time you want to use it. CONS: Noise canceling not nearly as good as either the HX550 or any of the Jawbone headsets. JAWBONE 2: PROS: Noise canceling works very well, both for calls and voice commands. CONS: Hidden buttons are hard to use. Plastic cover over buttons eventually fatigues and cracks. Turning on headset requires holding hidden button down for three seconds, followed by another three seconds to connect to the phone, causing missed calls. JAWBONE ICON HD: PROS: Noise canceling works well, both for calls and voice commands. Single multi-function button is MUCH easier to find and use than on the Jawbone 2. Power switch is easier to use than the hidden button on the J2. Time to connect to an incoming call from power-off is about 1 second, so no more missed calls. 10 days of standby time, so probably won't turn it off anyway. "mytalk.jawbone.com" provides an easy to use interface to the headset. Downloadable voice personalities are fun. Ability to reconfigure multi-function button for volume control or enabling/disabling Noise Assassin is nice. CONS: Slightly less comfortable to wear than HX550 or M165 in-the-ear, but not bad for short duration. Would probably use over-the-ear hook for extended use. UPDATE (2/4/2014): I have been using the Jawbone Icon HD for over two months now and love it. This is the standard by which all other Bluetooth headsets should be measured. Absolutely no complaints at all...small, comfortable, easy to use, and superb noise canceling for both voice commands and phone conversations. This headset costs about twice as much as most entry level headsets, but you truly get what you pay for in this case. Many of the high-end headsets cost about twice as much as this one, and I can't imagine being any happier with them. Excellent value.
