Is this sturdy enough and good enough quality to leave up for years, or is it more of a temporary pop up tent, to be closed and stored when not in use

We leave ours up from May-October. It does look more permanent, but unfolds like a giant umbrella. It has weathered several Michigan storms in the two years we’ve owned it. Highly recommend attaching sand bags or weights to corners for high winds. It is easy to take down and put up, takes up little room to store (about 4’ x 2’ x 2’). It’s a great gazebo with good customer service if you have questions!

Does the gazebo remain dry underneath in the rain? Specs say fabric is “water resistant”; also wondered if rain came in through the vent.

No. The vented top allows rain in, and there are also grommets near the base of the larger top piece that do a good job of keeping water from collecting but also allow water inside. Not a solution if you're looking for this to keep you dry.

Do I have to put the covering on and off each time I use it or will it fold with the supports to be put back in the case?

Thanks for the question, the cover can fold with supports/frames together and put back in the carry bag. But if the cover gets rained, better keep dry first, then put in.
