what do you suggest for a gap that is 36 inches long?

Maybe buy 2 sets and piece them together. If you make sure & cut it straight they should fit together fine. I love mine. Even though the gap was small I still dropped stuff into it

Yes you should be able to cut them. they where longer than what I needed so I cut them to fit the length and that was every easy.

What's the measurement to the "T" on the bottom from the sides? That should be included in the measurement diagram image.
