Great, stealthy little dash cam, but video quality needs work
I previously owned the Mini 0801 and it worked fine until the battery gave up, so I bought this Mini 0806. There aren't many difference between the two and it appears the optics and electronics are identical. The 0806 takes a 64 GB microSD card which is good for about 8 hours of 1080p recording. It has a looping feature, so the recording continues even though the card is full. This is the neatest and stealthiest of all the dash cams I've seen, although the resolution is not as good as I would like. The video is very clear, but license plates are only discernable at a distance of about 25 feet. I have a pair of DVR sunglasses that record with a better video quality. PROBLEM: I bought this device in February 2016. About three weeks ago I started hearing an alarm sound coming from the dash area. It was intermittent and I thought it was the car making the noise. I finally realize the sound was coming from the 0806. It would freeze (although the video was still recording) and the on/off button was unresponsive. The only way to stop it was to unplug the power and it would continue screeching for a full minute before shutting down. Possibly the alarm was an overheat warning. The device can become very hot during operation. The temperature outside was in the 70's so environmental heat was not the source of the problem. SOLUTION: I accept that this 0806 has failed prematurely and is ready for recycling with other waste electronics. I have purchased the 0826 from Amazon and expect delivery today. After much research of dash cams, I concluded that the mini is the best device for my purposes considering factors such as video quality, size and stealth. After setting the date/time stamp on the 0826, it should plug right into the existing mounting for the 0806. Other dash cams claim better video quality, but the reviews do not bear out those claims. Unfortunately, the on-line videos have reduced resolution so it is impossible to tell the true without buying and trying it. Unlike many people these days, I am loathe to return purchases The other cam's I reviewed are large and quite obvious in the windshield to the extent that thieves may be inclined to smash a car window to steal it. CON: The video screen is tiny and the menus are confusing. You will need to keep the documentation handy in case you need to reset the date/time stamp. If the battery dies, the date/time stamp will revert to its default setting. Long term reliability not good. UPDATE: The alarm sound turned out to be the unit claiming that the MicroSD card was invalid. That was strange because I had been using the same MicroSD card for 4 months and it continued to record while it screeched. The only way to turn off the screeching was to unplug the power cable.

Unit defective out of the box.
Returned to Amazon per the seller for refund. I had high hopes, but... 1. The micro SD card slot "A" would not lock in the card when inserted. The "B" slot worked fine. Press in, locked, press again, it popped out. But the "A" slot wouldn't lock the SD card in at all. 2. After installation, I tested the unit the day after I received it. (after being forced to use the "B" slot) & the camera did not even stay on for more than 35 minutes before shutting itself off. Once I realized it was off, I simply turned it back on & resumed recording. 3. On my way to work, (before dawn), once again, the camera would stop recording on its own after about 35 mins. When I tried to turn the camera back on, it would come on for just a second, then shut off again. 4.Upon my way home from work, I was then unable to get any power at all from the GPS mounting base from either side, but when I plugged the power cord into the camera itself, it worked---albeit again, for about 35 minutes. It shut off twice again before I made it home this afternoon. Turns out the GPS mounting base was dead. Didn't even survive 3 full hours of use. Please note, I took the camera out of the car & kept it indoors whenever not in use since Saturday. I never left it in the car at all. The micro SD card I'm using is a 35gb class 10 card. Very high quality, not cheap." The seller immediately wrote back & said I'm to return it to Amazon for a full refund, as obviously it's a defective unit. May or may not buy again. Additionally, the unit did NOT come with "Parking Mode" as advertised.

It makes you into a time traveler.
I had high hopes for this dashcam. It's small, discreet and uses an adhesive mount on the windscreen so it's not going to fall off. Then I just quit working. It wouldn't turn off, I had to disconnect it and wait for the battery to die. Then I noticed that it doesn't even maintain the time. Set the time to the current time and within a few hours it's showing the time 6 or 7 hours in the future. Go in set the time again and within a few hours the time is no longer correct. I had it set to run continuous but you know what, it's not capable of running for an extended period. It's not capable of running for a short period in my experience. Was looking for reliability but you know what, it's disappointing. If the screen was larger constantly correcting the date and time would not be a big deal but on a minuscule screen it's not possible. Then to top it all, it won't read a 32GB card that works perfectly on every other device and a 16GB card I inserted into slot A didn't go into the slot but slid into the gap. Ended up having to dismantle the case to retrieve the SD Card so I could update the firmware in the hope that it would fix (didn't fix it) the date and time issue. I've continued my search for a decent dashcam to replace my orginial low spec but remarkably more reliable dash cam that at least remembered the date and time. I tried the Black Box Mini 0805 and it died and now the 0806 shows that it's a device that needs better development, sometimes really small may look good but if the device overheats or can't deal if the temperature gets a little too hot then it's may not the way to go. More importantly when it's a device that is going to be inside a vehicle where the temperature can get higher than your device can deal with then it's not a good design. For what I've spent on Blackbox dash cam's I could have paid for an ultra high end device that doesn't have overheating issues. Rant over.

Good camera for the price.
Camera works as described. Video quality isn't bad. Sound is a bit soft. I have not had any overheating issues. The only downside I can think of is the video player software it comes with doesn't display the GPS map correctly. Actually, not at all. Not a big issue. There are other free video players on the web you can use. The mount holds the camera firmly. Updated: During a heat wave when my vehicle was sitting in the sun it stopped working. I had the sd card in the top slot originally so I moved it to the bottom one and the camera worked again.

Nice Mounting Options and compact.
Purchased this product after using a lesser item without GPS functionality and suction-cup mount. Pros: Small and uses windshield mount with reversible image, connections and controls for either left or right mounting. Can be nicely mounted without bulky mounting equipment. Works very well with lots of imaging options. Image quality is good and comes with a polarizing filter. Cons: Takes almost 10 minutes to lock into GPS satellites (mounted to windshield without any obstructions). So don't expect to begin tracking as soon as you start the car. Time setting is a nightmare! Took many attempts and experimentation to get the time and date right. Way over complex. GPS stamping within the video (speed etc) is way to small and hard to read. Included software does not always recognize the GPS files. Of 12 files captured, only 1 had related GPS information for use within the included software mapping. Very glitchy. Summary: Love the camera image quality, size and mounting options. GPS and included software is not worth the trouble or expense. You can play the videos without the included software which will include GPS stamping. For the average user who's not tracking, there are other brands and models that fit the need. The big advantage to this unit is it's size and mounting options. Two SD Card slots enables card removal without having to unmount the unit regardless of mounting orientation (a plus). Bottom line: I really like it -- it's worth the money -- but don't buy it for GPS tracking and mapping features.

Discrete, clear, capable
Size -- This camera is small and discrete. It's about the size of a D-cell battery. People don't notice that it's sitting in front of my rear view mirror. The black plastic makes it just blend in with all the black in my 2013 Subaru BRZ. Daytime performance -- I can't find a fault with the daytime performance of this camera. It's mostly sharp and clear all the time. There's very little motion blur. I find it easy to read license plates and street signs. All of the recording resolutions work well in daylight. I have the camera mounted in front of my rear view mirror. It's completely hands-free and automatic. After a recent record-setting snow storm this camera caught a few close calls and interesting behavior from other drivers (how did you get that car up that 6-foot pile of snow? Just...no...). Nighttime performance -- Night performance could be better. I found the HDR mode unusable at night because there would be a lot of motion blur and halos around lighted objects. In the max wide resolution it's somewhat easier to pick out details regarding license plates, lettering, locations, and so on. There still is blur, but there's not what seems to be a double-image that HDR can introduce (thus halos and extra blur). Also, the CPL filter dims the night image, but it can also reduce overly glaring lights off to the side. Got some trade-offs there. Audio -- This camera has no problem picking up sounds from inside the car. It'll pick up my radio as well as my voice and the usual thumps and thunks of Maryland potholes. It also gets engine sounds meaning I could better evaluate my driving on track days. Battery -- Battery life is a joke. This thing will happily survive short blips in power. Anything over 10 seconds is probably going to trigger this thing to turn off. It'll capture the important stuff so it does its job. Don't bother with parking mode unless you buy the mount-based extended battery. This is one thing I wish they would address. However, how much battery can you cram into a camera this small? I understand what's going on here. Software -- The camera writes its playback software to the SD card. The playback software will show a video, Google map, and overlay GPS position. The software seems to have problems with the high resolution of this camera's video. There's a lot of stuttering. However, playing back videos in another media player results in seeing the same media without stuttering. Overall, I like the camera. Night performance and battery could be better. The 0806 just works automagically when I get in and out of my car. It records all the stupid behaviors of Maryland and Washington DC drivers (video of my RWD sports car driving past stuck AWD SUV in 2 inches of snow is priceless). It caught some close calls clearly. I feel peace of mind knowing I have a camera there to reinforce my side of the story should an accident happen. Good buy. Will buy one for my dad, the commuter, later this year.

This is my first dash cam so I have nothing to compare it to but I am quite happy with my purchase
I did a lot of research looking for a dash cam. My needs were simple, high resolution, small enough to be hidden, gps logging, and decent storage. This is my first dash cam so I have nothing to compare it to but I am quite happy with my purchase. I have mine hidden behind my rear view mirror, and up in the shaded part of the windshield. Inside the only visible part is the power cord coming from the headliner to behind the rear view mirror. Regrettably early on the mini 0806 had a few growing pains, however the manufacturer upped their QC and I received a unit that did not have any issues. I was pleased to see the manufacturer not only supports these dash cam with firmware but also acknowledged the issues and helped to rectify the problems on a forum for dash cams.

It was not easy to setup but not the worst product I've had
So a Dash mounted camera that cannot take the heat of New England?!?!? I would think that would a high temperature rating would be part of the design criteria for something that sits in a window of a car, guess not. It was not easy to setup but not the worst product I've had. Right out of the box 1 slot did not work but I was already out of the return window and 1 slot was good so I installed it, worked fine in the cold weather, now that summer is here it self-destructed. I like the concept of a dash camera and some of the features of this one are nice. The software is not the best and I had to copy everything to my PCโs hard drive for it to work, would not run off the SD card, that was annoying. Overall I would not recommend this to anyone.
