Amazing holster
Surprisingly GOOD LEATHER. I was expecting something cheap as all get out, but 1791 nailed this on the head. Fits my P229 amazingly and broke in within a week. Like any full leather holster, yes it will need to be broken in. Once its broken in its amazingly comfortable.

It's Unbelievable!
I am very particular about OWB holsters. Not a kydex kind of guy so I prefer leather holsters especially for steel framed firearms. I had been shopping for Sig friendly holsters. Must have looked seriously at at least 25 different brands from custom made ones to the expected commercial mass offerings. This one caught my eye and I am completely happy with what I received from 1791 Leather. Out of the Amazon box this holster shined with quality. The leather was first rate- sturdy, solid and well stitched. Its design was intriguing overall and I appreciated the "curve" made into the holster so it rides close to the hip. At 3 o'clock it rides solid and gives easy access for presentations. I did take the time to break it in as I do with leather holsters. Rubbed in some leather lotion into the outside and used some "quick draw" treatment to the inside. Holstered the unloaded firearm inside a plastic freezer bag for about 48 hours. After 24 hours I reapplied the lotions, let them dry and reholstered the firearm. The result was an altogether unbelievable holster. I also drew and reholstered the empty firearm a number of times still in the plastic freezer bag to do a final check for fit and retention. I eventually put the holster on my belt and wore it for several hours. It is a KEEPER! Love the dark brown color too. Very happy I chose it. I am 100% certain that anyone who wants a quality holster and doesn't want to spend twice the money will be as pleased with this 1791 holster as I am. It's an heirloom holster I will treasure. Thanks 1791!!! You folks are doing a great service to those of us who want holsters.

Follow My Instructions and your SIG P226 will fit PERFECTLY!
This is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL holster; phenomenal quality and striking appearance. The problem?? As other reviewers have stated, it's a VERY TIGHT fit out of the box. What to do?? Simple!! (although, it will require your patience.) When you receive your holster, try inserting your pistol. It will be impossibly tight; almost to the point where you'll be tempted to return it. DON'T!! The instructions say to wrap your pistol in plastic food wrap. Wrap it at least 3 times and force the pistol in. Then, use a hair dryer to warm the exterior of the holster for a full minute or two, applying more heat in areas which seem to need to loosen up a bit. DO NOT REMOVE THE PISTOL. Allow the warm holster with the wrapped pistol in it to sit overnight. The next day, remove the pistol WITHOUT removing the plastic wrap and then insert it again. Notice, that by heating it and letting it sit overnight, the pistol is now able to slide in and out somewhat easier. It may be only slightly noticeable after on night...Progress!! Okay, remove the pistol again and wrap it 3 more times on top of the original 3 wraps. Again, insert it into the holster and give it another 2 minute blast with the hair dryer. Again, let it sit overnight. The next day, remove it and unwrap the pistol. Check the fit. Still too tight? Repeat the process. Keep adding layers of plastic food wrap, (as many as 6 or 8 wraps) inserting it and applying heat. With each application of heat and each overnight 'stretch', it will loosen up slightly and finaly take the shape of your pistol. After 3 or 4 days, your holster will be a PERFECT fit for your SIG P226. I wanted mine a little snug, but for those who want a very loose fit, just another day or two of the same routine should do the trick. The operative word is PATIENCE. You WILL have a beautiful fit for your SIG and you will LOVE this holster!

Quality, but uncomfortable
I was excited to get this holster. I wanted a holster to carry my pistol around the house and neighborhood and leather looks nice. My first impression when I opened the packaging was that it felt like saddle leather. (Not a bad thing) I could tell it was made to last. However, after a bit of adjusting the fit as directed and wearing it for nearly 6 hours straight I could tell i was not going to be happy with it. The hardness of the leather is so much that it would take likely months to soften enough to be comfortable to wear. Its also real tight on the fit of the gun (Sig P226r Elite). I would not discourage someone from purchasing this holster but just know if you want it to soften to comfortable wear quickly you will probably have to soak it in a hot water bath and then wear it with the gun bolstered till it dries and apply a very liberal amount of leather conditioner. Hot water soak is a common practice to bring suppleness back to hardened leather. This is hardened leather. Pros: quality craftsmanship, visually appealing, leather is not floppy and weak. Cons: very tight fit def needs a bit of stretching, holster as a whole is very stiff, uncomfortably so.

Fits the Sig Sauer P226 with Rail vary well.
This holster can accommodate the Sig Sauer P226-Rail with a nice fit. You do have a brake-in period where the gun might be hard to come out. However, if you place the gun in the bag that came with the holster, then allowing it to rest inside the holster for a few daysโthis will reform the holster to the firearm. The construction is substantially strong, and will not collapsed on itself. And it not affect concealment. With a proper belt, the 1791 is a quality and comfortable choice that is hand made with American pride. With other brands of belt holster, I find it hard to remove the firearm do to an extra pice of leather that becomes caught on the ejection port. Plus the non-reinforced leather made it impossible to remove the firearm, at all. This is not the case with the 1791 holsters. With reenforced openings, and no blockage what so ever, allows the easy access to the firearm in a stressful situation. The bottom line is, I believe in this company and what they are striving forโand I trust my life to this holster. I also believe that in five or even ten years from now, I will still be buying from 1791.

Quality craftsmanship for a great price!
This is an excellent holster! The craftsmanship that was put into this is excellent! I love the color and the smell of the leather. It has been reinforced in areas that would see high stress. The cant is great as well, allowing for a smooth draw with a forward angle which helps with presentation speed. Weapon fitment is great once broken in, but painfully tight before then. Follow the instructions provided to get a good fit. My only dislike in the thickness of the belt loop tabs. Some minor angular trimming of the holes should help with that nicely. Ride hight is nice as well. A standard length shirt would completely cover it, but do remember this is not an IWB holster so concealment is a little more difficult. Overall, this is something that can be proudly passed down through generations.

1791 GUNLEATHER Holster for Sig Sauer P226, P220, P229 Right Hand OWB Leather Gun Holster.
After looking at many different holsters, I purchased this one for my Sig p229 Elite - CA. Out of the box, it is truly beautiful, with the signature brown finish and high quality craftsmanship. As many reviewers have stated, these holsters are very tight on the firearm and require some break-in time. There are instructions included in the package that outline the break-in procedure but I modified them based on other research. Please remember to make sure your firearm is unloaded and all-clear before proceeding. Videos can be found on youtube that illustrate the wax paper method of breaking in a holster and it works very well. Basically, the firearm is wrapped wax side out (wax away from firearm and in contact with the inside of the holster), with the paper and placed into the holster for a period of 24 hrs - several days. I double-wrapped the firearm before placing in the holster. Mine was in the holster for five full days. At the end of each day, I slid the firearm in and out of the holster several times and then re-wrapped with new paper. At the end of five days, the firearm now fits like a glove in the holster (perfect). This method worked well for me so it is worth a try. Note: Generally, the wax is on the under-side of the paper as it comes off the roll.
